Wow is all I can say. The legal term finished up on a Thursday and 8 of us went here for the table d'hote lunch for €18/23 for a 2 or 3 course meal. This is without a doubt the best value lunch I have ever eaten in Dublin! I had a tatin to start and the guinea fowl for my main both were cooked to perfection. The service was just right not overdone but every time you needed anything they were there to get it for you. All I can say is this is one of the best restaurants in Dublin by a mile.

The Egg Cafe (Avoca Rathcoole)
Naas Road, Rathcoole, Dublin

I regularly meet my family here as I live in the city centre and they live on the other side of Naas. I have probably been going here for over 5 years. Last week we arrived in the afternoon having missed the lunch rush. I had the beef and Guinness pie with mash and 2 salads my wife had the chicken pie . My pie was passable and my Wife's was good. I shoudl say the quality of the ingredients was clearly excellent it was just the flavour that left a bit to be desired but the salads were awful. As I say I have been going here for a while and the reason for the review is just to say that this restaurant has been resting on its laurels for some time and has recently gone from bad to worse. I cannot recommend it nay more whereas even 3 years ago I would have. Unfortunately the staff were also extremely curt and not as friendly as they have been in the past. Avoid unless you have no choice as it is also overpriced.

Gus O'Connor's Pub
Fisherstreet, Doolin, Clare

On holidays in Doolin for a week and we went here for food twice. We really went for the music and this is a pub so it is hard to really rate it as a restaurant but here goes. The food was basic good hearty pub food and it came in massive portions. Relative to Dublin and my experiences elsewhere it was expensive but in line with prices in Doolin, which is very much the tourist trap. The atmosphere was the main plus with great trad music every night but be aware that you will find it hard to meet anyone Irish. To be recommended but beware the price and i've really rated it as a pub

Wild Honey Inn
Kincora Road, Lisdoonvarna, Clare

We were staying in Doolin for the week and our biggest regret was that we only discovered this truly excellent restaurant on the last night of our holiday. From the outside it looks like an unremarkable country hotel but upon walking in the door the aroma from the kitchen hits you. The menu was not the most inspiring but the specials were extensive and exciting. The pork cheek special was excellent as was the salmon which our friend thought was in his top ten meals of all time. The service was friendly and attentive. I should also point out that it was cheaper to eat in than the pubs in Doolin and given this is about as far from pub grub as you get without going to a high end restaurant, excellent value! All in all one not to be missed if your within 30 miles of here for a meal out, one would almost travel to Clare just for the pleasure.

Paulie's Pizza
58 Grand Canal Street, Dublin 4, City Centre South, Dublin

My Wife and I went here for a meal on Wednesday night. We were both surprised that it was so busy. We went and had a pint in Slattery's next door and they called us when a table became free. I had a siciliano pretty good but not necessarily the best I have ever had but my wife had the calzone which was superb and could not be faulted. Excellent wine list and fantastic service, with great music and a very chilled out atmosephere. I would have to say that it is the best pizza joint by far in Dublin 4 and a great adittion to the beggars bush area.

Farm Restaurant (Dawson Street)
3 Dawson Street, Dublin 2, Dawson Street, Dublin

Went here for the early bird menu on Sunday evening at around 5. Food was very good, if not too exciting chicken wings to start and a chicken pie for a main and with a coffee and all for €20 excellent value. The atmosphere was very nice and the service polite and friendly with a good level of attention to detail if a bit slow to start. T he only serious problem I found was the seats which I found to be seriously uncomfortable, a kind of modern bendy seat that was too low. Ok I know it sounds weird but I have never complained about a seat and I didn't today as there was no possible recourse and my girlfriend was comfortable on a bench facing me. Unfortunately I won't go back as a result but I would still say it is a good restaurant all in all and would recommend the early bird as great value in these recessionary times

Milano (Baggot Street)
1 - 2 Haddington Road, Dublin 4, City Centre South, Dublin

Visited here on Monday night with my Girlfriend. The food was of a good standard for the price. The staff were extremely good and the atmosphere was very good. The venue has changed hands about 4 times in the past few years and it feels like this restaurant will last. The food is as good as all of their restaurants and we had nothing to complain about. I was surprised at the value of their new Romana range. All in all a good experience at a reasonable price

The Steps Of Rome
1 Bird avenue, Clonskeagh, Clonskeagh, Dublin

I have been eating here since it opened, about 14 years, and I have never been disappointed. It is a budget place perfect for a quick bite while in town or out on the town. The pizza slices are all I have ever tried and they have never let me down and they serve an excellent coffee. All in all I recommend it for a quick bite don't think you'll find better. Oh and I was here yesterday and once again the pizza was excellent particularly the pizza slice with potato and rosemary.

Brownes Deli and Cafe
18 Sandymount Green, Dublin 4, Sandymount, Dublin

I have been to Brownes on 2 ocassions, both during the day. I was not that impressed with the food but there are only 2 places to go for breakfast in Snadymount so I went back 2 Saturdays ago intending to have breakfast. We were meeting some friends and got to Brownes at about 3:50 and I asked for the breakfast menu and said that some friends were joining us and we would be having the 'all day breakfast' (the menu states quite clearly that you can get breakfast all day at Brownes). Our friends duly arrived at about 5 past 4 and we went to order at about a quarter past. The waitress then said 'Oh I'm sorry but breakfast is finished'. I said but we said that we would be ordering it but there was no way we were getting breakfast and she was quite rude about the fact. For the first time in a long time we got up and left and went around to corner, where they were still serving their all day breakfast!

Town Bar and Grill
21 Kildare Street, City Centre South, Dublin

One of the best restaurants in Dublin. My Partner took me here for a treat in June. I had the scallop to start and they were fantastic but the Slow Roast Double Rolled Pork Jelly was out of this world. The service was excellent if a bit over enthusiastic, the waiter would not stop folding our napkins to the point were it became almost a private joke to see how soon after we placed it on the table he would be at our elbow folding it. He was still excellent and I particularly admired the way he managed to take our orders all night. The wine was also superb and the waiter guided us very skilfully in this regard. Overall an excellent experience and I will be returning as soon as possible.

Peploes Wine Bistro
16 St Stephen's Green, Dublin , City Centre South, Dublin

I went here for the first time this summer for lunch. 5 of us sat down at 1 and stayed until 5. The atmosphere was excellent and the food was very good. I had the cottage pie as a main course and this did the trick perfectly. Overall I could not find fault with the staff or the service. The wine was also excellent. I recommend it highly for lunch especially if trying to impress.

ely gastro bar
Grand Canal Square, (Next to the Bord Gais Energy Theatre), Dublin 2, Grand Canal Dock, Dublin

Avoid eating here. I ate here in August with my partner. A lovely white wine to start. Had the Veal as a main and thought it was honestly the worst I have had. Followed by the brownie with beetroot and lavender Ice Cream, which was very good. The place lacked atmosphere and the service was slow and while they did try to please they failed because they were not properly trained. I felt it was very bad value for money and would not return. Overall I would have to say a place for Cocktails on your way into town but not for food.
