As I live in this area I eat in Gooser's quite regularly and have been more than happy with the food and service on each occasion. I have also brought visiting relatives here and they always rave about the food. Admittedly, the main menu is a bit limited and some of the dishes are quite pricey, but I usually order from the specials board which is extremely reasonable - particularly given the size of the portions! I always find the food to be very fresh, well-cooked and tasty. Service is always prompt, polite and very friendly. They also have a decent selection of wines (including by the glass). I would definitely recommend their seafood, as well as anything served on Gooser's Guinness bread!

The Wooden Spoon Killaloe
Bridge Street, Killaloe, Clare

I am a big fan of this place and have probably tried most of the items on the menu at this stage. Everything in the Wooden Spoon is homemade and of a very good quality. The cakes alone are definitely worth a visit! The restaurant gets pretty busy so at times you may have a bit of a wait. Service is always friendly and helpful though and staff also tend to go out of their way to accommodate children. Portions are generous and prices are very reasonable...their quesadillas are highly recommended!

Tsang Dynasty
Derg Court, Ballina, Killaloe, Clare

This restaurant has recently come under new management. I have eaten takeaway food from here on several occasions and it is pretty standard local Chinese takeaway fare. Recently we decided to eat in the restaurant and were pleasantly surprised by the experience. The instructions on the menu were slightly confusing but basically you get as many starters as you want, before choosing your main course - all for 16.99 per person. There wasn't a huge selection of mains on the special offer menu and it consists of pretty run-of-the-mill stuff like curry and sweet and sour. We decided to forego the main in favour of trying a few of the starters (we were stuffed after four each, unsurprisingly). Quite a lot of the starters are fried in batter so this might be one to avoid for those watching their weight! However there were a couple that stood out - the Tang Special Starter and the Chicken Satay Skewers in particular. For value for money and service, which was excellent, I would definitely recommend giving this place a try.

Matt The Thresher (Birdhill)
Birdhill Tipperary Tipperary, Birdhill, Tipperary

I have been to this restaurant on several occasions but will unfortunately not be returning again. The main reason for this is one particular male member of staff who has been consistently rude and unwelcoming each time I have visited (I have only returned in the past as I live nearby but will be venturing further afield from now on!). The last time I visited with my partner he approached our table with an abrupt "Are you ready?" within about 60 seconds of sitting down and looked incredibly affronted when we asked if we could have another couple of minutes. I had ordered one of their 'gourmet sandwiches' which turned out to be a paltry amount of crab meat on what appeared to be store-bought brown bread accompanied by a miserable salad - not what you expect for a tenner. There are plenty of restaurants near this area that offer better value for money, nicer food and far superior customer service.
