Lucky enough to have a seat at the top of the stairs so we saw all the wonderful platters coming out ... lots of unusual but smart starters, so went for the salt cod which was excellent. The steaks (and Tuna) were all excellent cuts with very good sauces. I did forget to season mine as I went along so it was a little bland, but the salt at the tables was Maldon or something similar: absolutely delicious, and I won't make that mistake again! The Chocolate Soup was divine: silky smooth and totally moreish. The only weak note was the carrot and fennel sorbets. I'm a big fan of both, but they just didn't work at all. Lovely meal (though pretty expensive) and a great buzz about the place.

Feast
1A George's Street Lower, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin

Friendly, cosy, good food. Went with a Menupages voucher: small saving off the regular set menu prices, but good to get us in the door! Set menu had nice options on it: highlight probably the chocolate mousse (albeit with strange pumpkin jam added, possibly because of the time of year), but the sea bass was really tasty too. Would happily go again. Marked down a little because they had no gluten free bread or crackers of any kind: unusual enough these days.

Shakshuka
3 Wynnefield Road, Rathmines, Dublin

The room is nicely decorated and atmospheric, the staff extremely warm and welcoming and the food delicious. My kids devoured every last scrap, even when they knew they were already full. We'll be back.

Damascus Gate
10 Upper Camden Street, Dublin 2, Camden Street, Dublin

Having heard several recommendations, I took the plunge and ate at Damascus Gate: the right decision, and I'll be back. Delicious middle eastern food, lovely staff, fair prices. The lamb kebab was particularly good, while my ten-year-old olive junkie LOVED the olives! Portions are huge, so order less than you think you'll need: we left food behind, which we never do, just because there was so much! Highly recommended for a informal night out.

Baan Thai (Leopardstown)
Central Park, Block P, Dublin 18, Leopardstown, Dublin

We went Thursday midweek which reduced the atmosphere. Lovely room, though, and the staff are friendly if a little under-trained. \nFood was a mixed bag: mussels hotpot was delicious and well-balanced, as were the spring rolls. \nThe king prawns were huge and delicious, with a lovely sauce. However the stir fry which was listed with chilli, black mushrooms and other veg was bland with Irish button mushrooms. I had asked clearly was it Thai-style or more like Indian: I was assured it was Thai but it wasn\'t. A shame as it took away from an otherwise enjoyable and tasty experience. \nJasmine and peppermint tea were very good, with nice pots and cups. \nSurprised not to be offered bowls or chopsticks. \nGreat value with a Menupages voucher, and pretty good value without.

L'Ecrivain Restaurant
109a Lower Baggot Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Went to l'Ecrivain for an anniversary dinner and had the tasting menu: we didn't go for the special wine per course, but shared a bottle of white -- the menu was all fish and chicken. The staff really couldn't have been nicer, and the food was very strong throughout. No one course that was specially strong, but a very high standard throughout. Negatives? It was a leisurely meal, but even so it was slow, and the bill took a while to arrive. And the bill was big, of course. I didn't like that they added a (significant) gratuity to the bill themselves. All in all, a very memorable and enjoyable evening, with lovely food, beautifully presented.

JD's Steakhouse
4 Rathfarnham Road, Dublin 6W, Terenure, Dublin

Nice but there are lots of little things that would make a big difference. Good steaks but cooked completely unseasoned. No fresh black pepper. Tables just that bit too close together. Veggies were well cooked. Would go back for a casual meal.

Punjabi By Nature Indian Restaurants & Takeaway
15 Ranelagh Village, South Dublin, Ranelagh, Dublin

Really tasty indian food: not just the usual suspect dishes, and some unusual and original presentation. There on a voucher deal so the value was great and we ate too much! Will be back.
