Back again. The Step Inn is always a reliable bet. 4 different menus to choose from plus roasts of the day on the blackboard. We were a big party. Everyone had starters, mains & a few desserts. Takes some beating. They sit us in the corner as we have children. Staff are pleasant and helpful. Food was great. We mainly stuck to Turkey & Ham as it was around Christmas time. They brought huge extra platter of Yorkshire puddings as my family love them. Thank you again for a great meal.

13 of us went for Sunday lunch. The place was packed and staff were up to their eyes. You could see 1 particular girl very unfriendly. Everyone else was great. The set menus were a great help for such a big gang. Food was excellent. Really lovely. Fish cakes for starters were delicious. I never eat them but they were great. Soup beautiful. Typical Christmas turkey & ham, really good. Hamburgers were a bit dry I believe but never mind. Everyone loved desserts. Great family spot & Santa thrown in was brilliant.

Peperina Bistro Garden
25 Dunville Avenue, Dublin 6, Ranelagh, Dublin

I've wanted to visit this pleasant looking little place for ages. Only 1 table taken at 7.30 which was a bit worrying. It filled up completely though. Service was good

Mak at D6
Fields Terrace, Charleston Rd, Dublin 6, Ranelagh, Dublin

Loved the look of this modern but cosy restaurant. Service was fabulous at the first half of the night but we couldn't find anyone when we wanted to pay the bill. We got our menus & choose fabulous sounding things. Ordered & off the helpful waiter went. Waited & we were then suddenly presented with small white sheet of paper with only a few things on it. We had said several times on the way in & when first seated that we had a voucher. This small page sort of took the edge off the whole meal. We had a sort of makey up menu for voucher holders. That is the 3rd restaurant I've noticed that you get a totally different menu when you have a voucher. Disappointing. Anyway, the food was presented very nicely & our second choices were ok. I had pork & prawn din sum & my friend had the steamed version. I had ordered crispy duck but it wasn't on cheapy menu. I ended up with tough beef but vegetables in it & sauce were very nice. I can't even remember my friends main. He just ate it. It turned out to be just a takeaway really & unless I could afford the real menu, I wouldn't bother. We had 2 coffees in place of dessert. It is a nice restaurant & filled up really quickly. It has a good buzz about it. However the mix up over the menus spoilt it for me. The French wine was delicious.

Marios (Terenure)
103 Terenure Road East, Dublin 6, Terenure, Dublin

A return visit to this popular pizza place to find that it really has been upgraded. The decor is a bit dark but looks very well. The place was half full at about 6.15 in the evening. Early bird attracting people but not much difference really. It is still good value. There were 3 of us and 2 had pizzas. There were pretty ordinary but nice. I had the most glorious chicken dish with lovely roasted vegetables with it. Really really nice. I look forward to going again and hope to have the salmon the next time. I would certainly recommend giving this old favourite another try. I had given up trying to get a table because it was always full, although they were brilliant at coming across the road to get you when they had a table. I will go back.

Wagamama's Blanchardstown
Unit 410, First Floor, Blanchardstown Retail Park 2, Dublin 15, Blanchardstown, Dublin

I was invited to one of their 2 opening nights. The place was absolutely jammed, crazy, noisy and busy busy busy, just like the one in town always is. It looks like Wagammas's in Blanchardstown is going to be as popular. Facebook reports were excellent. The service was excellent, from the lady downstairs ticking off names, to the guy bringing you to a table asap. The lovely girl that served us couldn't have been nicer and the food was lovely. They had run out of starters by the time we got there but did drop down 1 starter between 2 when they eventually got around to cooking some more. There seemed to be dozens of staff but the chefs just couldn't keep up with the pure volume people there. We had lovely prawns in breadcrumbs with dipping sauce to start and they were delicious. I had Teriyaki steak with noodles and boc choi. It was really nice. My friend has a prawn dish with rice and lovely soft buttery sauce. The wine and glorious fruit juices were as always..really nice. A great night and I am looking forward to going back out there.. Thanks Wagammas. See you soon.

Il Corvo Restaurant
98-100 Upper Drumcondra Road, Dublin 9 , Drumcondra, Dublin

Dropped into Il Corvo on the way to U2. I think half the population must have had the same idea but they were coping really well. I have been here many times before & never had a bad meal yet. Service was quick and helpful. Specials explained and advice given. We ended up having steak. I don't think I have ever had steak there before but this was really lovely, Juicy and moist and cooked to perfection. Vegetables and chips came too and absolutely no complaints. Perhaps we were just starving and delighted that they even gave us a table. They looked like they were already on their 2nd or 3rd sittings at this stage but staff were cheerful and friendly and even ordered us a taxi to the gig. I tried to persuade the Manager that she should open on the South side but she says she has been there 13 years and didn't think she would change now. Pity because I could see us going every week to this cheerful friendly place.

Tamara Restaurant
Unit 11/18 Belgard Square, Tallaght Town Centre, West Dublin, Tallaght, Dublin

My friend and I went back to Tamara last night. I had written a previous review but looks like I can't do a second one, so I'm overwriting the first one. The restaurant was quite full, well the little corner they use these days. It is a huge place. We got brought straight to a table and then they seemed to forget about us. After about 10 mins we started waving arms around and they came and served us. We got a nice bottle of wine and 2 mains. My friend had satay chicken and really enjoyed it. They present it well and the steamed rice comes in the bamboo pots. I had duck Tamarind. It was rather sweet and quite over cooked but quite nice. The Manager offered us a glass of wine on the house which was a real treat in this day and age. The bill was average and the overall ambience was good. It is nice for a pleasant night out but I wouldn't recommend it for a special night lke a birthday but I'm glad it's still there as it seems difficult to do business around there. I think they will still well for big groups of girls as there are always big groups of girls there. Nothing wrong with that.

Tippenyaki
39 Castlewood Avenue, South Dublin , Rathmines, Dublin

My family swear by this restaurant, they love it. It was my first time to visit though so perhaps I had built it up in my mind. I was surprised it was so small & really they only have 3 hotplates. We got there at 7pm and only 1 family there. They were obvioulsy regulars as they discussed all foods & what they usually eat. I found the atmosphere pleasant and the staff were very friendly. The food was nice, that is probably the only way I could describe it. Nice, A bit bland but the original ingredients which are of course cooked in front of you, were nice. I can imagine though if you have been here 3 or 4 times, that's it. It all becomes very similiar. I described it as the equivalent of a burger bar. Even though they have lovely scallops, prawns and good things, they all taste much the same. My friend raved about the place and is heading back, me! mm. Would go again but really was fairly disappointed. Perhaps I am too hard to please.

Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK Naas)
Main Street, Naas, Kildare

Went to Gourmet Burger for the second time this weekend. The first time the service was really dire but it has improved. Unfortunately I had lost my voucher to give 2 meals for the price of one as it is quite pricey. The food is nice and all the different toppings and sauces make it a bit apart from the other burger joints. I am now thinking of going there for Valentines day. Not very romantic but perhaps more realistic that what other places have on offer for this weekend. That I would fancy going back for a third time is something unusual so lets see how this time goes. At the moment I find it a nice place, but not much atmosphere, what can they do with a long tunnel of a place. They are trying though.

Bijou Bistro & Wine
46/47 Highfield Road, Dublin 6, Rathgar, Dublin

I went to Bijou last night. It has been quite a while but I was delighted to see the same friendly faces. Staff are so nice and so helpful here. Always makes it easier when you are waiting for someone that arrives about 20 minutes after you. They brought me straight to a table. Pointed out the specials. Brought wine and water immediately. Food was really lovely. I have said before that I have gone off the stuffy atmosphere upstairs. It has now got a sort of "older persons" vibe about it. Even though I am an older person I love the downstairs atmosphere. Loads of groups of people all busy chatting away and everyone's plate looking really lovely. I had the organic salmon & it was absolutely delightful. Really tasty and light and the vegetables and mash with it were glorious. My friend had my favourite meal of the moment. Roast belly of pork. It came rolled and like a big pork burger or small roast. It looked very good. As it was on the specials I hope I get back again before it comes off the specials. It looked really tasty and I fancied some but my friend didn't offer. Ah well next time. I can't wait. Well done Bijou, keep up the good service and lovely food and their deli on the corner is well worth visiting too.

Anvil Bistro Restaurant
Saggart Village, Dublin 22, Saggart, Dublin

I had been trying to visit this Bistro for ages. You drive past it but parking is so dangerous that you're gone before you can stop. You say, perhaps next time. This time though I made an effort to get there. It always looked inviting. We were trying to make it for 6.30 but my friend got delayed. However they still let us have the early bird menu, although we were not expecting this, nor did we ask for it. In fact neither of us had a starter or a dessert but the bill reflected this, so that was ok. The service is very good. The atmosphere is nice. The place is set out a bit strangely. Long couches but my friend sitting on one tiny corner of it while I had the seat facing her, the wall and the window. A bit peculiar. I couldn't see anything in the restaurant, just my friend the wall and the traffic. The food was quite good. Typical Bistro presentation but very enjoyable. The waiter gave us the fish courses for the day as they are not on the menu. My friend had the salmon and was impressed. It looked and tasted nice. She really enjoyed it and is planning a visit back next week with her husband. I had the steak. I think I did in fact, get the small one from the Early Bird menu but it was quite big enough and I enjoyed the meal. As it grew darker the waiter came around with candles for the table to create a romantic atmosphere so he said. 5 men behind us at a table, we were two women. :) I suppose he was trying. He was very attentative to everyone though and the place could not be faulted. I look forward to my next visit. It really is a very pleasant little place and very obviously populated by people from around the area. They look like they walk there and meet there. I hope that I have at last found somewhere I could recommend to others and enjoy without it being a big hassle to get to.

Johnnie Fox's Pub
Glencullen, Dublin Mountains, Glencullen, Dublin

I had visitors over from London & Australia. I thought this would be the perfect place to bring them. Disappointed that the Hoolie wasn't on but in the end it didn't matter. The entertainment, music and atmosphere was absolutely perfect. I have always loved the food here but I feel that it has gone down somewhat. My favourite prawn cocktail was watery plain and boring. Not like it used to be.It tasted like badly frozen prawns not thawed very well? They didn't serve any brown bread, we had to ask for it. It was wonderful. My friends starters, the soup and mussels were delicious. They both ordered mahe mahe and both said it was a bit undercooked but they did clear their plates. I ordered duck. I have never even seen it on the menu before as I guess Johnny Foxes is known for fish. The duck was ok. Just ok but I am glad there is more on the menu than fish as not everyone loves fish. I had brought my friends here for the music and atmosphere anyway. The traditional music impressed them. I have heard that group before and they are good craic. They also had some of the River Dance set to make up for the hoolie not being on. This was more than enough and my Australian visitor was open mouthed and took hundreds of photos. He was impressed. In general a really good night and I was delighted they were so impressed.

Captain America's Cookhouse and Bar (Tallaght)
Unit A3 Tallaght Cross Dublin 24, Tallaght, Dublin

Visited Captain America's on the way home. Packed again but after a few moments we were led to a seat. This Captain A's must be doing as well as the one in town. Since it opened around Christmas I would say we have been there about 10 times. They must be doing something right. Menu seems the same as Grafton St & lots of young people and mixed groups of all ages there. Food comes out so quickly it is a pleasure to be there. Typical fast food but of a bit better quality. Staff are helpful and quick. They are trying hard to attract all sorts and massive amount of people around this area. They have something different happening every night although I have usually eaten and gone before the "entertainment" comes on. Burgers are good, any straying away from burgers is not really a good idea. My last attempt wasn't to be recommended.

Bellagio
92 Terenure Road North, Dublin 6W, Terenure, Dublin

Visited this restaurant last night & I have to say it was really very good. The atmosphere is very pleasant, just a friendly warm place. I got there at 6.30 having booked online. I was the first person there & was amazed that during the whole evening only 3 men turned up. The place has lots of ladies out for their evening meal. You could go on your own and not feel uncomfortable. My friend and I shared Suppli as a starter, because I had seen it being made on tv on the city channel when they showed Bellagio. The description of it in the menu is very off putting. It is really delicious and my friend and I both loved it. I had Veal escalopes with prawns for my main meal and it came with chips and salad. Very nice, light and tasty and I would order it again. My friend had Linguine with prawns and she totally cleared the plate. Another good sign. The wine was fine and the service was really very good. The girls serving were very nice, attentive and really quick with any requests. I am looking forward to going back.

Butt Mullins
Poplar Square, Naas, Naas, Kildare

I was really looking forward to going to this restaurant. I had been before a couple of times. We just called in before so we were not expecting much. This time I booked for Saturday night at 7pm. Greeted by screaming kids and old Grannies and pensioners. As I am an old Granny this was ok. Screaming roaring kids, well why were they not at home. I certainly didn't want to hear them. Anyway, we were served quickly as always. Then you have to wait quite a long while for your meal. This is fine once the order has gone in. I think there were about 6 tables taken at this stage. My partner and I had both ordered steak. We just fancied steak n chips. Just back from the States last week so still in the humour for steak & chips. My partner ordered well done steak and I ordered medium. My steak was totally over cooked, my partner's, was a bit pink to his liking. I told him they were probably trying to keep mine warm while they ruined his. I hate over cooked steak. The flavour was good, the vegetables were nothing to write home about. All in all a very disappointing meal. Perhaps we had been spoilt by the excellent quality you get everywhere in the States. Butt Mullins is way over priced, not very exciting but yes! younger crowd poured in around 8pm and I am sure they were not as fussy as I am. While I do really like the sort of off kick decoration of the place (like Avoca)I am not sure it will make up for the totally medicore meal, unfortunately.
