How the mighty have fallen. On Saturday we turned up at the Beaufield Mews as a party of eight. our bill for the night was for 6 starters, 8 mains and 6 deserts. Food €35p/h, drink €25p/h and €50 for the service. Total €528.94. It’s a lot of money for a night out and you would expect an element of value on that. The building and the grounds provided that as it has a lovely setting, but that was it. Once inside it was a different matter. As a family group we tend not to complain but halfway though the main course I felt almost like a disgruntled ogre for what was being put on the table. The menu was fine but what came out of the kitchen was insipid throughout. I had ordered a steak Araignee with peppercorn sauce. The sauce was dark in colour there was not enough to hit the plate, I asked for more and was brought out a sauce that was light in colour and oversalted (suspected packet). The vegetables that came with the steak were completely al dente. The steak itself was small, tough and had the taste of something that had been sterilised in the fridge. There were a selection of vegetables ordered (suggested by the head waiter) for the table which amounted to 5 cereal bowls of boiled veg that a 2 year old could prepare. Of the bowls the had the more relevant vegetables they had run out before they got to me (maybe I should blame my family). The 2 bowls of chips for 8 also had to be supplemented. Again my wife’s lamb was a cheap cut of lamb and I do not forgive restaurants who try to make you look like a fool. I did not hear one positive comment on the starters and two for the desserts. I could go on. One of our guests best described the restaurant as incidental to the night. I thought it was bloody awful. Had I been Gordon Ramsey I’d still be shouting
