Restaurant Reviews from GinoG
The Step Inn Stone-Grill Restaurant
Stepaside Village, Dublin 18 , Stepaside, Dublin, Area Code: Dublin 18
Reviewed 15th November 2011 ( visited 30th October 2011 )Went here for dinner, and I loved it. Althought the steak comes out practically moo-ing, it cooks so nice on the stone, and to my own liking specifically! Great new side orders too since the last time I was there. Full marks all round! If your going to get the steak, the Fillet is your only man.
China Sichuan restaurant
The Forum, Ballymoss Road, Dublin 18 , Sandyford, Dublin, Area Code: Dublin 18
Reviewed 05th May 2009 ( visited 07th April 2009 )Went here with my boyfriend on a Friday after work to give it try. I had been hearing mixed reviews. We got a voucher for Christmas but weren't starving so just got some starters. Food was good, not the best Chinese i have ever had but still nice. Atmosphere is bland. When your sitting at the window you cant even see out with the thick net curtains. Its terrible, impersonal and cold. You wouldn't even know it was a Chinese restaurant once your inside, no traditional decor at all. Staff were nice though. Wouldn't go back. Definitely better out there.
The White House
Pearse Street, Kinsale, Kinsale, Cork
Went here for dinner as a group during a weekend break to Kinsale, and I wasn't impressed. The food was pretty flavourless. Had the chicken liver pate to start, and the chicken stuffed wiht white pudding as my main, and both were extremely bland. No one from the group was overly impressed with their meal. Wouldn't go back.
Bulman Bar & Restaurant
Summercove Kinsale, Kinsale, Cork
Probably the slowest service I ahve ever encountered in a restaurant.. but the food was honestly wortht the wait! 12 of us walked out to the Bulman from Kinsale, and sat out in the sun having a bite to eat in the sun, and it was just gorgeous. Beautiful of Kinsale! They have tables outside, and the sun was shining. Between us we had the mussels, lobster, fish & chips, and a few portions of the seafood chowder... and they were all absolutely delicicious! So fresh! Staff could have been friendlier though - they DO NOT handle pressure well! :(
Blue Orchid Blackrock
Newpark Centre, Newtown Park Avenue, South Co. Dublin, Blackrock, Dublin
Got takeaway from the Stepaside location on Sunday, and it was delicious! Phad Thai is to just die for, I got the prawn one. My boyfriend had the Green Curry, also a winner. The flavours are so good, and ingredients are just so fresh. Make sure to order the prawn crackers too, amazing! Will DEFINATELY be going here for a sit down meal very soon.
3A Talbot Place, Dublin 1 , City Centre North, Dublin
Went here for a Birthday celebratory lunch, and loved it, AGAIN! The special was a mountain of food for only €8.95, and the currys were a real hit with everyone else at the table. Phad Thai looked gorgeous too. All in all very filling, but very delicious! Only criticism is that the place is very small, and therefore very noise at lunchtime, and for groups of 6 or more, they dont offer free prawn crackers like most Thai restaurants do. It would just be a nice touch!
Cafe Le Monde
Store Street, City Centre North, Dublin
Went here for a staff lunch, and I have to say, I wasnt overly impressed. I ordered quiche, and it arrived practically cold. It took 15 minutes for it to come back, and when it did it came with dry salad leaves and not the mixed salad that it left with. Just wasnt impressed with the quality of the food. Although the presentation was good, everyone agreed that there wasnt much else to it.
15/17 Ballsbridge Terrace, Dublin 4, Ballsbridge, Dublin
Went here with 9 work collegues for the new lunch special, and I have to say, we all loved the food. Excellent value, and really high quality food. Very tasty! Going back again tomorrow. It may become the new Friday lunch spot!
Rickshaw Chinese Restaurant
Kill Lane, Dublin 18, Deansgrange, Dublin
By far the best Chinese take-away in my area. Food is delicious. Would recommend the shredded chilli and onion chicken starter, the sesame chicken starter, and any of the sate dishes. The chef's special dishes are always worth trying too. It's so nice to get takeaway food like this that is actually restaurant standard.
The Beach House Restaurant (Bray)
The Seafront, Strand Road, Bray, Wicklow
6 of us went here for a birthday dinner last week, and all in all, we loved it! we got a table right beside the window looking out over the sea, and it was a really lovely evening. Food was delicious, and the early bird really was amazing value. I had the pate to start, and the chicken for my main, and it came with perfectly cooked veg. Yum! Very nice staff too. Would definately go back again soon.
Hugo's Restaurant at Druids Glen Resort
Druids Glen Resort, Newtownmountkennedy, Wicklow
Stayed in the hotel overnight with a couple of friends, and took advantage of the dinner offer also. I have to say, it was delicious. I had the chicken liver pate to start, and then the steak as my main, both were incredible. The otherhas smoked duck starter, the veg soup, lamb and chicken, and loved every bite. The staff were so friendly, and they really looked after us, refilling glasses and ensuring we had enough of everything at all times. Would highly recommend this location for an overnight break away with some seriously good food. My only criticism would be that the veg side order is served in cubes, and is not particularly appetizing in appearance or taste.
The Port House Ibericos
5/6 Pembroke Cottage, Pembroke District, Dundrum Town Centre, Dublin 14, Dundrum, Dublin
Absolutely love this place! Had my birthday dinner here, and everyone that came thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The staff are so pleasant, the food is delicious, and the atmosphere is great. Only complaints would be that the Scallops were cold on arrival to the table and had to be sent back, and the restaurant was very warm, but both were clearly down to it being very busy! Will be coming here again for sure. May i suggest you try the Prawns Pil Pil - mouth-wateringly good! :)
Leopardstown Inn, Brewery Road, Leopardstown, Dublin
Decided to give this place a go based on raving reviews from friends and family, and i have to say, i really loved it. It's such a quaint little place. We decided to go with the early bird menu. My boyfriend had the butterly prawns and I had the chicken liver pate. For mains we both had the chefs special pork. Every course was more delicious than the previous. I am definately going back here for the next occasion I can think up! :)
The Martello (Bray)
Strand Road, Bray, Wicklow
Absolutely love this place for pub grub, always an easy eating experience! The steak sandwiches are to die for, and come with lashings of onion strings and the creamiest pepper sauce. Brilliant atmosphere for football or rugby matches, and the staff are always so friendly and attentive. The Toblerone cheesecake is also a must have if you are into a bit of sweet too! :)
2 Merrion Road, Ballsbridge, Ballsbridge, Dublin
I would eat out quite a bit, by far the worst Italian restaurant I have ever been to. Lasagna was microwaved, and bland, the chips were greasy and brown, the pizza lacked any flavour, or sauce & cheese, the service was unbelievebaly slow, the waiter was rude and hardly spoke. Just an all round awful experience. I couldnt wait to leave. Just arocious!
The Leopardstown Inn
Brewery Road, Stillorgan, Dublin
Went here for a quick bite to eat, and it was worth the trip. Would recommend ANY of the specials on any given day - never let me down, or fish and chips, or the steak sandwich. Yum! Really good quality pub grub with fast service. Probably the best pub grub in the area.
31 Deansgrange Road, Deansgrange, Dublin
Went here to try the pizza, and I have to say I was well impressed. It was a real crispy based thin crust pizza, with a generous helping of real quality toppings. The pizza could have been hotter however, seemed to go cold very quickly and the cheese wasnt browned at all. The starters looked amazing though, definately going for both next time. This is a tiny place but well worth a try for a quick bite to eat, in a very small traditonal Italian setting.

Town Bar and Grill
21 Kildare Street, City Centre South, Dublin
Went here for a corporate dinner after work last week. It has to be said that the food is genuinley excellent here. Got the Antipasti to start and then the steak wiht mash for main. Both absolutely delish! I would definately go back. Wine list is also extensive and very inexpensive.
Baan Thai (Ballsbridge)
16 Merrion Road, Dublin 4, Ballsbridge, Dublin
The spring rolls here are to die for, the staff are always super attentive and the atmosphere is great. Always love the food, chicken stay also another one of my favourites. Great pay day treat for anyone! :)
14 Merrion Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin
I actually really like this place, they do the best chilly wedges ever, not a fan of the baked potatoea however. Sheopards pie is incredible, and always really good value for money. Been here a few times meeting people for lunch and stuff and have never been disappointed. Well worth a try for some casual pub grup eating!
Ballsbridge Terrace, Ballsbridge, Dublin
Went here for a spot of lunch with a few co-workers. Got a lovely roast beef sandwich and side salad for €5 which was great value, and delicious! The caravary was a winner all round with the guys too, lasagne was fab, and the veg was al-ente, not boiled to death. Would definately go back, little gem in the middle of Ballsbridge!
Palazzos - Closed
1 Marlborough Terrace, Strand Road, Bray, Wicklow
Went here with my boyfriend for a quick bit to eat. Had the Antipasto Misto Plate to start between us, delish! Than he had a pepperoni pizza, thin base, really traditionally Italian made, and I had the Salmon Linguini. All round really tasty food. Pizza was fab, and the pasta was equally as yum! Great value for money too. Including a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc wine, the whole lot came to less than €60. Would go back without a doubt.
6-7 Jervis Street, Millennium Walkway, Dublin 1, City Centre, Italian Quarter, Dublin
Went here for a company lunch, thought the food was really really good! Fantastic starter platter available for groups of 4 or more, and the main courses were all delicious! I would definately recommend the Chicken Cashew. Not mad on the spring rolls though, very bland. Cocktails afterwards were also fantastic, loved the Flirtini's!! Would have been nice to sit at a table for drinks after, but they were completely booked with Christmas Parties, so we had to sit at the bar. I would definately go back and give it a second go. Very nice place!
The Merrion Inn Bar & Kitchen
188 Merrion Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin
Went here last Thursday with my boyfriend on the way home from work and I have to say I was pleasantly suprised. I'd usually drive by the Merrion, but the weather was so bad we just ran in there for a bite to eat. I had Supreme of Chicken, and he had a Steak Sandwich. Both were amazingly tasty, and very reasonably priced. I would definately go back. The atmosphere and interior is really nice too. Great place for food! I recommend it!
Milano (Dun Laoghaire)
1 Harbour Square, Crofton Road, South Co. Dublin, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin
Went here on a spur of the moment dinner with my boyfriend on Sunday eve. The place was packed and there were very few tables left. Had the Bruschetta Fungi to start each and than decided to share a pizza as we were weren't starving. The pizza was tiny, the base was wafer thin and had a tiny amount of toppings on it. Wasn't impressed to be honest. Thought the portions would be a bit bigger, or even just slightly more generous. Also pricey in the end, nearly €40. Don't think i'd go back. Better value for money in other places. x
Ragazzi Italian Ristorante
109 Coliemore Road, South Co. Dublin, Dalkey, Dublin
Went here last night for my mum's birthday, 8 of us. Lovely restaurant, great atmosphere and staff are very friendly. Food was delicious, but maybe slightly overpriced i thought. Had the antipasti between 7 of us totaling €55 (eek!) but the mains were good portions size.Had a lovely time overall. Would definatley go back, but maybe not in that big a group again. Very tasty!
Sapori de Campo de Fiori
4 Albert Avenue, Bray, Wicklow
Great little spot for a few Italian delicacies. Incredible cheese, olives and sliced meats from the Deli counter. Walls of traditional Italian food stuffs and condiments and wine. Saw people having a glass of wine and sandwiches in house, will definitely be back for that myself soon!
Campo de' Fiori Bistro Market
1 Albert Avenue, Bray, Co. Wicklow, Bray, Wicklow
Went back here on Friday for the second time with my boyfriend. Still as delicious as ever. The Campo di Fiori Antipasti is a must have for 2, and the steaks are 'melt in your mouth' good! Would recommend this place to anyone looking to have a nice meal in a very relaxed atmophere. Will definately be going back for the hatrick! :)
Palmers - The Golden Ball
The Golden Ball, Kilternan, Dublin
Had a bite to eat here on Friday night, and to be honest, it was a bit hit and miss. I was here last weekend (bank holiday Monday) and was well impressed with the food, hence my return. On Friday just gone I ordered the same dish as i did last weekend, and it was awful in comparrison to the first. I dont know if its an issue with the chefs, but i just find the specials are always lovely, and the A La Carte is just unpredictable. Really wish they would just out more effort into the food. it's really a nice place other then that.
Heather House Hotel
Strand Road, Bray, Bray, Wicklow
The new Calamari strips are gorge! The Fries side order had eight chips in in though! Bit stingy I thought!
The Queens Bar & Steakroom
12 Castle Street, Dalkey, Dalkey, Dublin
Went here after work with the other half. We stat out the front in the sunshine, but on the most uncomfortable metal seats ever. :( We weren't starving so we only ordered 2 starters and some brown bread. My boyfriend had the Fish Cakes and i had the Smoked&Fresh Salmon Roulette. Both were fab, really fresh fish in both and just all round tasty! Not at all like the usual salt-infested fish cakes you would usually get elsewhere! Definitely going back. I want to try more! So far soooo good! x
Bits and Pizzas
15 Patrick Street, Dun Laoghaire, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin
Haven't been here in a while, but it is still as tasty as ever. Amazing food, excellent value available with their new special menu, excellent and fast service, very friendly staff, and the best pizzas on the southside! I strongly recommend the garlic mushrooms to start, and the little touches like the bread sticks while you are waiting, make the experience even nicer! We have been going here for years now, and it's still lovely place.

The Crystal Bar @ The Beacon Hotel
Beacon Court, Sandyford, Dublin
Used to go here all the time for lunch, smoked salmon was my fave dish.Since they changed the menu though i haven't been again. The new menu is more more restricted, and not half as nice as before! Gutted! Bring back the old menu!!!
The Porterhouse (Bray)
Strand Road, Bray, Wicklow
Typical: My partner and I used to love coming here for the spicy chicken wings, so we gave it another go on Friday for a quick bite to eat. Still has the best Garlic Pizza Bread With Mozzarella & Crumbed Blue Cheese, but the chicken wings were AWFUL! They were really grizzly and full of bones, hardly any meat on them, and then a dribble of sauce over the top. Totally opposite to the meating wings we used to get, in a bowl full of gorgeous spicy sauce. Dont think I will be going back, unless the original wings are back on the menu. Such a pity!
Purple Ocean Restaurant
St Michael's Pier, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin
Went to Purple Ocean for my Dad’s birthday last night and was a bit disappointed to be honest! Don’t get me wrong the food was great but the table we got was awful. It was on the bottom floor, after I had requested to be able to see the sea from our table cuz my dads a boat fan, and they landed us smack bang in the middle of the blandest room I've ever seen in a restaurant. No atmosphere at all! The window was so high u couldn’t see the sea. Food presentation was lovely however, and the assorted breads were very tasty. I guess after reading the other reviews I just expected the views to be spectacular! Wouldn’t go again....
