Had a fabulous lunch here today, amazing value lunch menu: a choice of two tapas and a glass of house wine for 10 euro! myself and my companion shared four dishes and there was more than enough to go round. We had the vegetable paella, spanish tortilla, ratatoule and some delicious spicy potatoes and the best house red i've ever tasted! I would highly reccommend The Port House for it's relaxing atmosphere and great tasting food.

Gibson's Deli & Bakery
17 Wicklow St, City Centre South, Dublin

While I was really impressed with the pretty decor and atmosphere of Gibsons, i was dissapointed with the service my daughter and I recieved on the day we visited. I ordered coffee and cake for us both, the waitress promptly brought the coffees but we were left waiting 10 mins for the pastries.my daughter's cappichino was cold by the time they did arrive and she told the waitress this. She returned 10 mins later with a shot of hot expresso to heat the cappichino instead of just bringing a fresh one! The staff appeared to be very distracted and i overheard customers at the next table commenting on the poor service also. It was such a pity as it is such a lovely cafe and the pastries were delicious.

Café Bon Bon
Mill Street, Maynooth, Kildare

Met a couple of friends in this newly opened cafe for lunch. Fabulous decor and scrumptious food. The staff were very friendly and efficient. My only complaint would be that it was extremely noisy which made it difficult for us to have a conversation. But it is such a lovely cafe i won't lt that put me off returning for some more of their yummy cakes and pastries, only not during busy lunch time.

The Birdcage Cafe
Avoca Rathcoole, Naas Road, Rathcoole, Dublin

Had lunch here yesterday, food was really tasty and of good quality but a little bit pricey for what is basically cafe food. I had the roasted veg and goats cheese ciabatta, which came with 3 salads priced at 11.95. Coffee and a huge chocolate eclair to finish brought the bill nearer to 19 euro,, a bit steep when you consider the value around at the moment..admittedly it was delicious though! One thing i wasn't crazy about was the noise, sound seems to echo around the cafe and it was still very busy at 2pm , hardly a free table. Def no sign of a recession here!

Town Bar and Grill
21 Kildare Street, City Centre South, Dublin

This was my first time to eat here, myself and companion opted for the "early bird" although it's not called that here! Fantastic value at 20 euro for two courses. Our waiter was efficiant and very friendly without being overpowering. We decided on main and dessert and then to our delight our waiter brought us a complimentary "taster plate" appetiser to have with our wine along with some freshly baked bread and pesto. For mains iI had the "catch of the day" which was delicious and my companion had the rib eye steak (no supplement charged) Unfortunately, she was a bit dissapointed with the steak as it was overcooked and tasted a little burnt having ordered it medium/well done. Her dessert of raspberry panacotta was to die for and more than made up for the overcooked steak! My baileys and brownbread ice-cream was very good also. I would definately reccommend Town Bar & Grill to anyone, particularly the "early bird" menu.

The Bistro & Brabazon Restaurant
Tankardstown House, Slane, Meath

I had the most amazing lunch here with my friend who took me as a birthday treat. And treat it was, I absuloutely LOVED it! The food, the service and the ambiance were exceptional. The restaurant and bistro is set around a courtyard with a decor/style that reminded me of a French Chateau. We both had veg soup with excellent homemade bread to start, followed by the best fish pie i've ever eaten and a coconut cheesecake with mango couli to die for! The whole lot including 2 glasses of Kir and 2 coffees came to just over 60 euro! In my opinion The Bistro & Brabazon is a little piece of heaven and i can highly reccommend it to anyone!

The Happy Pear
Church Road, Greystones, Greystones, Wicklow

I had lunch at The Happy Pear yesterday and i have to say i abs loved it! It was my first time to eat there and i was very impressed with the quality of food, service and overall ambiance. The staff were so friendly and helpful, I had the veg lasagne with apple/beetroot salad and couscous,,,yummy to say the least! followed by coffee and some delicious homemade choc tiffen cake to die for! My daughter is a huge fan of THP and is a regular diner and being a vegetarian she loves to browse around their well stocked shop. I am counting the days till i return to eat at this little gem, definately worth the 45 min drive from Kildare!!

TGI Friday (Blanchardstown)
Blanchardstown Shopping Centre, Dublin 15, Blanchardstown, Dublin

I've eaten in TGI's on many occasions and always found the food/service quite good so i was dissapointed when neither the meal or the service lived up to expectations. On the evening in question the waitress was unfriendly to myself and my companions and her manner was indifferent to say the least. She took away the cutlery after we'd finished our starter and we had to ask for some more after she'd brought us our mains. Throughout the meal we had to look for her when we needed anything, not once did she approach our table to see if we needed a drink refil or to see if everything was ok. I think that the standard of service left a lot to be desired and i wont be in a hurry back to TGI's!

Da Vincis Restaurant (Leixlip)
Main Street, Leixlip, Kildare

I have eaten in Davinci's several times in the past, Its a great restaurant for families as it is so child friendly but unfortunately i have found it to be a bit hit and miss when it comes to the food. On this occasion i had italian bread to start which was ok. My main course was a creamy vegetarian pasta dish but it was so lacking in flavour i needed to add vast amounts of black pepper and parmesan to it. On the plus side my companion was very happy with her lasagne and we both thought the house white was excellent.

Bradys Castleknock Inn
Old Navan Road, Castleknock, Dublin

Had lunch in Bradys for the first time and will definately return. I thought the standard of the food for the price was amazing. I ordered turkey and stuffing sandwich and was pleasently surprised to find that it was hot roast turkey straight from the joint. It was delicious and came with fries at 6.95! My companion had the turkey and ham with all the trimmings at 10.95. I also loved the decor and atmosphere and would not hesitate to recommend Bradys to my friends.

Alvito's Restaurant
Captains View, Captains Hill, Leixlip, Kildare

I have eaten in Alvitos on several occasions and reciently visited with my family for a birthday celebration. On past visits i have always found the food and valu for money to be excellent, However on this occasion i didnt feel that the quality and flavour of their dishes were up to their usual standard and was a little dissapointed. In saying that, we were very impressed with the efficiency of the service and the child-friendly staff at Alvitos and will more than likely return in the future.

Captain America's Blanchardstown
Unit 40 Blanchardstown, Retail Park 2 Extension Dublin, West Dublin, Blanchardstown, Dublin

This was my first visit Captain Americas Blanchardstown and most likely the last one! While it was cheap (lunch main with drink 10 euro) i would rather have paid more and had better quality food. I have eaten in CA Grafton St and expected the same standard but this was definately not the case. Myself and my companion both had the burger which was tough and of a very poor quality. I will not be returning!

Brasserie Sixty6
66/67 Great South Georges Street, Dublin 2 , City Centre South, Dublin

This was my first visit to Brasserie66, I had noted that it came top of the best restaurants list on menupages so decided to try it for lunch. I ordered the home made burger and my daughter had the warm goats cheese and tomato foccaccia, they were both excellent and came with complimentary soft drinks. (i would reccommend their homemade lemonade) Service was friendly and efficient. The only downside for me was the atmosphere, i was expecting more of an ambiance as menupages had rated it no.1 for atmosphere. Having said that, i would definately return to Brasserrie66 again...

The Bradaun Restaurant @ Leixlip House Hotel
Leixlip, Leixlip, Kildare

I took my daughter here for dinner following her graduation. It was quite busy for 6pm on a Thursday evening. There was only the one waitress serving and it looked like she was under a lot of pressure. At one point I asked to see the wine list and she could'nt find it! I felt so sorry for her that i just asked her to bring us a bottle of the house white. Having said that, the service improved following this as another member of staff started to take orders. As usual, the food was faultless and the house wine was surprisingly good. However, i think its a pity that Leixlip House Hotel seem to scrimp on staff numbers,, i have witnessed very slow service here in the past. It is a shame, because in my opinion this is the only area that lets them down.
