Had a meal included in our 2 night midweek stay and, as expected, the seafood was fabulous. I had the mussels to start, gorgeous. I had Scampi for main course, wonderfully light batter and so fresh, I'm drooling thinking of it! Yum, yum, yum.

14A
French Church Street, Cork City, Cork

I really can't fault this restaurant, we ate there after a hard day's shopping and the food was just excellent and great value at €20 for 3 courses. I had the chicken wings to start, chicken in a bun for main and crumble for dessert. All were scrumptious. My other half was full of praise for his starter of bruschetta which he said was the best he ever had anywhere. He also loved his fish cakes main and the pavlova. Faultless.

Bianconi at Granville Hotel
The Quay Waterford, Waterford City, Waterford

This restaurant is certainly on the "posh" side in terms of decor & atmosphere. We were there on a Sunday evening and it was fairly busy. We both had the apple and black pudding salad, I wasn't impressed as the black pudding was cold and the accompanying salad didn't seem to have any dressing at all on it. The main course was good though, I had the pork and the dessert of mille feuille was nice too. We were never asked what we'd like to drink though and the time waiting for courses was quite long. The staff seemed to know some of the customers by name, I guess they were hotel guests or regulars and they certainly seemed to be getting extra attention.

Lawlors - Closed
7 The Square, Listowel, Listowel, Kerry

Can't beat this place for hospitality. The open fire really lends itself well to the atmosphere of the place, especially on a wet afternoon. I had the chowder, roast pork and pavlova and all were very tasty, especially the pavlova which had loads of fruit and was just gorgeous. A really friendly place and I couldn't really fault it at all. I'll be back if in Listowel again!

Tiffany's
24 Dungarvan Shopping Centre, Dungarvan, Dungarvan, Waterford

This seems to be a very popular restaurant with families, there were several there on the Sunday evening we were there. The food is ok, nothing spectacular really, good value though. I had the Seafood Chowder, which was deliciously creamy, my other half had potato skins, which he enjoyed too. For mains, I had chicken fajitas. The chicken and veg was fine, the guacamole looked a bit grey and there were only 2 tortillas to wrap the chicken & veg in. The "sour cream" was, I suspect, actually creme freche, which was a tad watery. On a very hot day, the water jug had no ice so was tepid, a small detail that would have made a big difference. The tea and latte arrived BEFORE the dessert, a gripe I have with an awful lot of restaurants. I had chocolate cake, the base tasted a bit stale if I'm honest. I can see why it appeals to family, there is great choice and it is good value, just not exactly a fine dining experience!

Dinos Traditional Restaurant & Takeaway
Pier Road Kinsale, Kinsale, Cork

Kinsale was mad crazy busy on a bank holiday weekend when we arrived. We decided on Dino's as we wanted fish & chips and I just couldn't see the point of paying through the nose for the privilege of eating them in "fancier" restaurant surroundings. We had Deep Fried Brie for starter, which wasn't great to be honest, came with a sweet raspberry sauce that just didn't seem right to me. But the fish & chips themselves were DIVINE! I had the haddock, my other half had the Cod, both were gorgeous, as was the chips, the tartar sauce, the mushy peas and the onion rings. A guy at another table was tucking into what looked like a cheesecake dessert and his expression said it all as he looked around at his mates and grinned and said "Ah lads, unreal!" If you want to be fed well for good value then Dino's is the place.

Poppadom (Limerick)
U2C Robert Street, Cornmarket Square, Limerick City, Limerick

Three words - OH. MY. GOD. The best meal I have ever eaten in my life! We only chose to go there as we got parking right outside and of the restaurants on the same street it was the busiest. The service was fabulous, the waiter seemed to be a guy who took pride in his job. But the food is the most outstanding part of this restaurant, it was absolutely divine. It makes any other Indian restaurant I've been to pale in comparison. Even the rice had fabulous flavours, I will be dreaming about it for a long time. I've already decided to go back there for my birthday and every other occasion that I can. Fabulous!

The Brasserie
Arundel Square Waterford, Waterford City, Waterford

It was very busy the day we ate there as Spraoi was on but we were seated immediately. Overall the service was very good, except for at the end when we were brought a glass of ice water instead of a latte for some reason. As for the food, I had nachos, which were lovely but came with garlic mayo instead of sour cream, which I thought was a bit odd. My other half had loaded potato skins and loved them. I had the chicken burger for main and it was good. Other half had fish, which came in goujons which is pretty unusual but he enjoyed them nonetheless. It's not fine-dining but then it doesn't set itself out as being that so what you see is what you get. For good but not outstanding food, it's a great option. They closed at 7 which is a bit early though.

Rolf's Restaurant & Wine Bar
Baltimore West Cork, Baltimore, Cork

Couldn't fault the food here, it was just superb. I had the West Cork Black Pudding starter, wonderfully presented and taste to match. I had plaice for main, really delicate sauce with it, cooked to perfection. Creme Brulee dessert also kept up the standard. Downside - we were seated in a kind of corridor between two main seating areas, felt like we were out in the hall and as there was a large group at either side we felt a bit forgotten about at times. But for wonderful food, for a special occasion it really would be hard to beat. PS: Do not heed the 500yards from main road information on their website, we walked to it and it's a lot further.

Istabraq Restaurant & Clancys Bar
Main St, Bruff, Bruff, Limerick

It's a traditional pub and we ate on the balcony area just a few steps higher than the bar. There was some kind of function in the actual restaurant area downstairs. I had the Mexican Beef Potato Skins to start, taste was fine but presentation was poor (it came wrapped in tin foil) I had the Cajun Chicken Wrap for main course, again, tasted lovely and the presentation was better this time. Dessert was poor (in choice and in flavour and presentation) Service was a bit slow but they did have a crowd in on a Monday night which maybe they didn't expect. Presentation was the biggest issue, for example the teapot was all spattered and stained and could have been wiped down before being brought out. Good for food (except dessert) presentation could be better.

Soho Bar and Restaurant
77 Grand Parade, Cork City, Cork

I was very impressed with my first visit (definintely not my last) to this restaurant. The staff were very helpful, even when we turned up without having booked. The food was delicious. I had scallops, served on a bed of lentils, yum. My other half had the philly steak spring rolls - I tasted them and they were gorgeous. I had the chicken fajitas for mains and he had the sea bass. All fabulous. Desserts were fab too. My only gripe would be the seats, tubchairs that were a bit too low for a shorty like me. Will be calling again.

Nutmeg Organic Restaurant
14 A French Church Street, Cork City, Cork

I thought this might be pricey - being organic it automatically led me to that assumption. But I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised because the food was so good it was definitely good value and the prices were good. I had chicken wings - Finger lickin' good! And a steak baguette, which was yum. My co-diner raved about his fish dish and loved the pavlova dessert. I drooled over the pavlova as it looked divine but I showed great willpower and abstained. I will definitely be calling again. Only negative is that the service was a tad slow but they were busy so I wouldn't hold it against them.

Golden Mill Restaurant
Sarsfield st Kilmallock, Kilmallock, Limerick

Lovely decor and really nicely laid tables (real cloth napkins & tablecloths - haven't seen them too often lately!) Only quibbles would be access to the toilets which involved having to go through what seems to be a staff area (or at least they were all congregated there) and made me feel as if I was trespassin on a non-public area. Food was really good though and service was excellent. Surely that's the main thing!
