A gem of a gem. Such quality food, a lovely setting and really nice service. Scrumptious stuff. We are inundated with endless reality TV programs about how to cook with quality food, how to run a good service restaurant; best menu's, etc..but Chez Hans has been around for 20/ 30 years (?) and they consistently and unpretentiously do everything right in this restaurant. I admit I haven't dined in every restaurant in Ireland, but so far this is the best I've experienced so far. Lovely, just lovely!

My husband and I go to Andersons Creperi every so often; ever since we moved back into the area. We always loved the Drumcondra and this little hideaway on Carlingford road feels like 'our' place, far from the maddening crowds when you need it. It's such a simple but well executed menu, with something sweet and indulgent for quick coffee stop or their savory crepes for a proper meal. Seems like everyone is doing crepes these days (maritime festival, Bloom festival, Howth market,etc..) but there is nothing in the world as good as an Anderson Galette.

The Winding Stair Restaurant
40 Lower Ormond Quay, Dublin 1 , City Centre North, Dublin

Like others who have commented here, I have always wanted to try out this restaurant so I admit I had high expectations when my husband booked it as a surprise evening out. I loved the look of the menu, lots of fresh Irish ingredients alright. I had the black pudding & potato cake starter; it was tasty but I've had a similar, yet much tastier version in another restaurant recently, this just didn't compare. The pudding and the mushroom sauce was tasty, the shredded potato cake was just rock hard in places. My husband had the crab starter and was impressed; it was fresh, a generous portion, with lovely homebaked bread to accompany it. My mains, Smoked haddock, was very tasty, and there was lots of it. With the sauce and the creamy potatoes it was very rich and filling. The staff were lovely, it was a nice room but a little overcrowed. I would expect Fridays to be busy of course, especially in such a popular restaurant, but while we were there, they sat 3 people to what could only have been a 2 seater table....and six people waited by the 2-seater sofa squashed up against the bookshelf while their table was made ready. You know.....you are paying the money, you would like to be comfortable and at least get the basics...if they cannot cater for those numbers they need to consider stretching out their sittings and bookings instead of trying to maximising throughput...because as a customer you can feel that when you are there, i.e. throughput is the priority. That was the most disappointing aspect I know we'll need to give it another chance, go back when it is less busy for a nice meandering, lazy lunch, maybe trying out a couple of bottles of their fine wine :o)
