Spice Indian Restaurant
Monck Street, Wexford Town, Wexford

We booked a table on a Friday for 9pm .The restaurant was practically empty when we arrived. Three tables were occupied including ours, there were no newcomers while we were there - we left at 10.30pm! The food was only just ok. Bland sauces and the dahl was to all intents and purposes a bowl of slop. We have visited many Indian restaurants in our time and this one was not up to the standard to which we have become accustomed. Food was not of the best quality, however the portions were quite generous. Service was fine but the atmosphere was sadly lacking. Would not be in a hurry to return.

La Cote
Custom House Quay , Wexford Town, Wexford

Have been to this restaurant 4 times now and can honestly say that La Cote is top class. Expert cooking, top quality ingredients, professional, friendly service and value for money. If you like fish then this is the restaurant for you. We had goats cheese salad and crab claw salad to start and hake and chicken to follow - all were delicious and beautifully cooked. Wines are reasonably priced. If I had one tiny quibble it would be this -: La Cote operates as a coffee shop (Sidetracks Cafe) during the day, so in order to create a more intimate dining experience at night, I would dim the lights a little and exchange the place mats with table cloths, but that would be my only complaint.

Jacques Seafood
Custom House Quay, Wexford Town, Wexford

First visit to Jacques Seafood Restaurant and I have to say it was an enjoyable experience. Atmosphere was a little lacking, but it was a Wednesday night and there were very few people there so it was quiet. The food however, was very good. No "Specials" on the blackboard but I was told that they are available at weekends. We ordered from the Special Deals Menu - 2 courses for €24. We had seafood mornay and scallop and prawn gratin to start and to follow lemon sole stuffed with crabmeat and salmon and monkfish roulade. Both dishes were accompanied by creamy mashed potato and a side of spicy veg. Perfectly cooked food, excellent service. Would really like to return, possibly on a Friday - would like to sample the "Specials".

Greenacres Restaurant
Selskar, Wexford, Wexford Town, Wexford

Since our last visit to Greenacres, a lot has changed. Layout of restaurant is different as are the staff. The food, thankfully is just as good but the portions are quite small and represented poor value for money in our opinion. We had made a reservation and arrived at the appointed time only to be left standing with our coats still on, and staff rushing around totally avoiding any eye contact whatsoever. We stood for around 10 minutes and eventually a waiter looked at us and said "are you leaving or arriving". We told him we had reserved a table and he indicated a table and left us to it. Having waited a considerable amount of time I caught his eye and asked for some menus and a wine list which were put on the table without a word. He came back and we ordered some wine only to be told "we don't have it" and he walked off - no alternatives offered. We eventually ordered wine that they did have and placed an order for our food. We didn't have a starter and ordered mains of fish and duck both of which were nicely cooked and very tasty. We were completely ignored after that - no one asked if we were happy with our food and when the plates were cleared we were not asked if we wanted dessert, tea or coffee. As is happened, we didn't. We paid the bill and left, feeling invisible. The level of service could be summed up in one word - INDIFFERENT and despite the tasty food, we would be reluctant to return anytime soon.

Cistin Eile
80 South Main Street, Wexford Town, Wexford

Our second visit to Cistin Eile and the food just continues to delight us. Starters were fishcake with pickled vegetables and goats cheese salad. Both dishes were presented perfectly and tasted out of this world. Mains were slow cooked topside of beef and duck with a game pie, again both dishes were just perfect - what flavours! Just about found room for desserts. Individual trifle and apple pie and both were lovely. Topped this off with a bottle of a crisp fresh Pinot Grigio - heaven! Fabulous restaurant, super efficient staff. Recommended - top class.

The Yard Restaurant
3 Lower George Street, Wexford Town, Wexford

Great value on Thursday and Friday nights - four course meal €25 per person. Very nice food cooked perfectly. Our starters were warm duck salad and goat's cheese tart, both were excellent. We both had fillet of cod served on crushed potato and spinach. Cod was really good but the potatoes had way too much butter for my taste. To follow we had a white chocolate gateau and strawberries and both desserts were tasty. Professional and friendly service, great atmosphere. We will most definitely return.

Bacco (Formerly Nonna Rosa)
78 South Main Street, Wexford Town, Wexford

Our first time to visit this restaurant and we can't wait to return. Very warm welcome. We were shown to our table and almost immediately were served with a basket of really lovely bread and a jug of water with some mint leaves in. We shared a starter of bruschetta served on a wooden breadboard with salad which was very good. We followed this with a whole lemon sole in lemon butter sauce, potatoes and veg, and a chicken dish served in a tomato sauce with baby roasted potatoes and veg and a very reasonably priced bottle of red. Both dishes were excellent and cooked perfectly. Portions were very generous and the service was efficient, friendly and informal. This is quite a small restaurant but there is enough space between tables for private conversation. Brilliant atmosphere - waiters singing and chatting with the diners. This is the best Italian restaurant we have visited in Ireland. It is worth mentioning that at present credit cards are not accepted - just cash.

Emerald Gardens (Wexford)
117 South Main Street, Wexford Town, Wexford

Since our first visit last November we have been back to Emerald Gardens many times including last Saturday February 23rd 2013. This restaurant just gets better and better. Professional, efficient and friendly service from each staff member and fantastic food. The sea bass fillets were perfection, served on a bed of excellently cooked and tasty stir fried vegetables .Sizzling chicken dish was also really good.Side dishes were home cooked chips and rice and were absolutely faultless. We were offered a complimentary glass of wine each - a very nice touch which we accepted gratefully. We enjoyed our night and will continue to visit this top class restaurant.

Taste (Wexford)
1 Selskar Avenue, Wexford, Wexford Town, Wexford

We decided to use our GrabOne Voucher and avail of the 2 starters 2 mains and 2 glasses of champagne offer. On entering the restaurant we were greeted and shown to our table. Some very nice bread with a garlic and herb dip was served which was good. This restaurant is extremely dark and the very dim lighting does nothing to create any atmosphere it just made reading the menu a bit difficult. We ordered our starters - fried goats cheese salad and deep fried calamari both of which were very nice but could have been hotter temperature wise. Our mains were roasted belly of pork and breast of barbary duck which carried a surplus of €4. The pork was good but the duck, despite being asked how I would like it cooked and replying medium rare, was served overcooked but edible nonetheless. The accompanying vegetables were fine. We were served 2 glasses of champagne, which tasted like no champagne I have ever had, it was warm, fizzy and sweet - we could not identify it. The service was courteous but very slow despite the restaurant being quite empty, most of the diners were leaving as we arrived. In our opinion there are a number of top quality restaurants in Wexford Town but Taste would not be among them.

Emerald Gardens (Wexford)
117 South Main Street, Wexford Town, Wexford

Passed by this restaurant a number of times and decided to try it as it always looks so inviting. Tables are well spaced and perfectly dressed with white crisp linen and sparkling glassware. This is a large restaurant set on 2 levels with atmospheric and subdued lighting. On arrival we were warmly welcomed and shown to our table, almost immediately a bottle of chilled water and a bowl of prawn crackers were served. We declined starters and ordered duck cantonese and sizzling filet beef with black pepper sauce, both with steamed rice, a nice bottle of red completed the order. The quality of the duck and beef was excellent, cooked perfectly and the portions on the generous side, however, the cantonese sauce was too much like gravy, the black pepper sauce, on the other hand was very good - hot and peppery just as it should be. We enjoyed our meals despite the cantonese sauce and will most definitely return. The service on the night was without fault - professional, efficient and friendly. The menu did not have as many dishes as some other Chinese restaurants we have visited but there were plenty of choices nonetheless.

Vine Restaurant
109 North Main Street, Wexford Town, Wexford

Enjoyed our first of many visits to Vine immensely. We were warmly greeted as we walked in and shown to our table. Service was efficient, courteous and friendly. We shared a starter of skewered chicken served with a spicy peanut sauce, followed by our mains - one portion of deep fried tempura prawns and duck combination and stir fried pork fillet with mushrooms, onions and garlic in a fragrant tasty sauce. Steamed rice and noodles accompanied the two dishes which were absolutely delicious. A bottle of carmenere complimented the food very nicely. Portions were extremely generous and very good value for money. Great atmosphere in the restaurant. Looking forward to our next visit.

Greenacres Restaurant
Selskar, Wexford, Wexford Town, Wexford

Have just moved to Wexford and decided to have dinner in Greenacres Bistro. Very glad we did. We just had main courses - moist stuffed sliced chicken, the stuffing was amazing and served with a fab sauce - possibly the best chicken I have eaten, and an absolutely delicious fish dish - sea bass fillets. Both meals were accompanied by beautifully creamed potato and perfectly cooked green beans and swede. Staff were polite courteous and super efficient. Will most definitely be back soon! Fantastic restaurant.

Berty's Bar @ Annebrook House Hotel
Austin Friar St, Mullingar, Westmeath

We stayed in the hotel overnight and as it was a Sunday the main restaurant was closed so we made a decision to have dinner in the bar. Initial impression is that Bertie's Bar occupies a large space with little or no atmosphere. We chose two mains - sirloin steak cooked medium rare for my husband which arrived cooked as ordered and half roast stuffed chicken and ham for me. The food was only o.k., nothing special. Ham and stuffing portions were tiny, but tasted fine - what there was of it. The chicken was accompanied by what I can only describe as a mound of congealed mashed potato which had a strange taste to say the least. I did not eat it. Onion rings and chipped potatoes concluded the order. The chips were listed on the menu as "chipped potatoes" and we assumed they would be home cooked chipped potatoes. What arrived were anemic specimens - almost as white as the bowl in which they were served and, In our opinion, they looked and tasted like the commercially frozen variety as were the onion rings. Not a great dining experience but to be fair, the service was polite and pleasant. We were surprised to be told that wine was only served in quarter bottles and that no full bottles of wine were available!! Bertie's Bar is not an establishment to which we will be returning anytime soon.

Kajjal
7 The Green, North Co. Dublin, Malahide, Dublin

We had dinner here last Friday for our wedding anniversary and it was a fantastic dining experience. Lovely decor and subdued lighting created a really nice atmosphere. The tables were well spaced to allow privacy. Glassware and cutlery sparkled enticingly on pristine white crisp linen. We decided not to have starters, just as well, as the main course portions were extremely generous. We chose Bhuna Gosht - tender lamb chunks in a piquant sauce and Nehari Gosht - large chunks of beef in a spicy curry sauce. Both dishes were delicious. We also had Pilau Rice, Garlic Naan and a portion of Channa Masala - chick peas with onions in a tasty sauce, along with a very nice bottle of red. Service was polite and efficient. We could not fault this restaurant and plan to return very soon. Kajjal is a real asset to Malahide.

The Wild Swan Chinese Restaurant
1st Floor No1, Main Street, North Co. Dublin, Malahide, Dublin

We are regulars here and cannot speak highly enough of this restaurant. From the warm greeting on arrival, to the excellent service, fantastic food, good value and great atmosphere makes this, in our opinion, the best Chinese restaurant in Malahide. Thai red curry is very tasty - choice of chicken, beef or pork in a spicy sauce , and the duck cantonese - very tender, flavoursome duck in a rich thick sauce are our favourites, accompanied by yeung chow fried rice - absolutely delicious. Portions are very generous and the food is consistently good. There is also quite a good wine list with reasonably priced wines from €19 a bottle upwards - great value!

Cape Greko (Malahide)
Unit 1 First Floor, New Street, Malahide, Malahide, Dublin

Back again from yet another lovely evening at Cape Greko. We had our favourites seafood and chicken, sauteed garlic potatoes and a salad. We were offered and accepted a free shot of ouzo each- very much appreciated. Service as usual was impeccable. Great value, one of the best restaurants in Malahide, in our opinion.

Wans Garden Chinese Restaurant
191 Howth Road, Clontarf, Killester, Dublin

Had a takeaway from Wan's on Saturday and I have to say it was fantastic value for money. Chicken curry was enough for 2 people, really nice chicken breast and spicy curry sauce, great starters - very tender ribs in a tasty bbq sauce, equally good skewered satay chicken. Would'nt fancy eating in - restaurant needs a good makeover, but for takeaway it's fantastic.

Il Fornaio (Raheny)
55 Kilbarrack Road, Dublin 5, Raheny, Dublin

Ordered a take-away last Saturday for 3 people and was most disappointed with the quality and price of food. Bruschetta - Traditional and Mozarella were both barely warm and the bread was dry and unappealing to look at and to taste. The pizza was ok but again barely warm and the two pasta dishes consisted of poor quality chicken which was tough - and almost cold. Everything had to be heated up at home. This was our first time to order from this restaurant and I can say that it was certainly our last. I would like to give a zero star rating but the system will not allow me to do so!

Okra Green Howth
1 Island View, Harbour Road, Dublin 13, Howth, Dublin

Fantastic food, excellent service and a really good atmosphere. First visit to this new restaurant and it was busy and buzzy. We both had lamb and it was the most flavoursome, aromatic and tender lamb I have had in along time. Have booked for this Saturday again -can't get enough! I really hope this restaurant is successful - Howth needs it.

Jimmy Chungs
Eden Quay, City Centre North, Dublin

Went for a quick pre-theatre bite to eat on Tuesday and first impressions were of a large, brightly lit, clean restaurant but, it did look a little like a works canteen. Staff were friendly and helpful if a little over enthusiastic - empty plates were whipped away at breakneck speed by staff who patrolled the aisles waiting to pounce on diners who had just finished their last mouthful of food, they also had a really annoying habit of stretching across our plates to pour wine into our quite full glasses until I politely told them that we would look after the wine ourselves. As to the food, well it was really awful, overcooked, barely warm and only each dish was labelled, we would not have been able to identify them. Most of the dishes look the same - meat or chicken in a thin greasy watery sauce and the chicken had a really weird texture and taste - unlike any chicken I have ever eaten! Nothing authentic about any of the dishes. I can honestly say this was a nasty experience and I will not be returning anytime soon!

Charming Noodles
105 Parnell Street, City Centre North, Dublin

Influenced by the many good reviews for Charming Noodles, we went there for dinner last Saturday. We were greeted at the door by friendly staff and shown to our table. Starters were yuk sung for 2 which was both plentiful and tasty followed by sizzling chicken satay for me and a seafood noodle dish for husband. Both dishes were very generous and tasty in the extreme and perfectly cooked. Great value for money, and the efficient service could not be faulted. In an area quite densely populated with Chinese restaurants, Charming Noodles appears to be a very popular choice. We left a fairly full restaurant around 11pm and passing by several restaurants nearby, we noticed that they were practically empty! We most certainly will be back.

Deep
12 West Pier, North Co. Dublin, Howth, Dublin

First time to this restaurant and was disappointed as the menu presented to us was not the same as on Menu Pages - this one was much shorter and a lot more expensive! However, we both had the soup to start which was mushroom and tarragon and was extremely good. Mains were for me, chicken served with salsa, and swordfish for husband- both very good, well presented and cooked. The side orders were a complete let down. Mixed vegetables - a bowl of what appeared to be frozen mixed veg sitting in water did not excite the palate, and the "home fries" looked suspiciously like the commercial frozen variety. I would expect better considering the prices charged. Service was professional and fast. Very nice decor but sadly this restaurant is lacking in atmosphere. There are better restaurants in Howth which offer more value for money. We would not in a hurry to return any time soon.

Jade Chinese Restaurant
27 Little Mary Street Off Capel street, Dublin 7 , City Centre North, Dublin

Really good value for money. First time to visit this restaurant and we were a little put off by the dowdy decor. It is a little run down but the great food and very warm welcome soon overcame our fears.Sizzling beef in a black pepper sauce was very good as was my husband's authentic Chinese type of fish stew which also arrived sizzling to the table emiting tantalizing aromas. Very generous portions - really enjoyable. Service was professional, fast and friendly - a great place to eat, we will be returning soon. Paid a return visit to Jade and we were greeted like old friends. The food just gets better and better and it's fantastic value 45 Euro for two mains and a bottle of very nice wine! Very generous portions. We will continue to return. Returned once again last Tuesday and as usual we received a very warm welcome. The food as usual was first class, excellent duck and very good shredded beef, asked for and got extra garlic and chillies. Cannot fault the food or service will continue to eat here regularly.

Siam Thai (Malahide)
1 The Green, North Dublin, Malahide, Dublin

Overall the food was good. Chilli duck was tasty tender and plentifull, however, the starter my husband ordered was described on the menu as prawn tempura but what he actually was served, turned out to be prawns wrapped in breadcrumbs! - not what he ordered but nice nonetheless. Service was professional, fast and courteous but the ambience does not lend itself for intimate dining. This restaurant is busy, bright and buzzy, tables are way too close together for comfort and private conversation and very loud music on the night we were there did not encourage us to linger. Despite the good food we would not be in too much of a hurry to return.

Jaipur Restaurant (Malahide)
5 St James's Terrace, Dublin 15, Malahide, Dublin

Went to Jaipur for the first time last Wednesday and I have to say the food was first class. Naan bread was yum! We were amazed that this restaurant wasn't busy at 9.30pm, just another couple and ourselves so it was very quiet, but we enjoyed the evening. Would definitely return, but at the weekend when, I imagine, it would be busier and more atmospheric.

profile_review

The Oval Bar
78 Middle Abbey Street, City Centre North, Dublin

Went for lunch in this very busy bar last week. Food was tasty, typical pub grub- sandwiches, paninis, burgers, chicken goujons, chips etc. This pub is famous for its Irish stew and my colleague ordered it - it looked nice, served with brown bread and she announced that it was delicious. Service was slow, there was only one person serving upstairs so we had quite a wait for our meals. However, we enjoyed our lunch and will return maybe on a day off from work when we would not have to rush our food.

Kinara Restaurant
318 Clontarf Road, North Co. Dublin , Clontarf, Dublin

Having read so many excellent reviews for Kinara Restaurant, we decided to try it last Saturday for dinner. It could not be faulted, the food was fantastic. Starter dish of squid rings were perfectly cooked - no rubber bands here !!! We enjoyed every mouthful - the sauces and spices were wonderful. Service was very good and if asked, the waiting staff were helpful and patient in explaining the different dishes. We are fairly new to Indian, Pakistani and ethnic food but we know good food when we taste it.This will be a regular venue for us.

Montys of Kathmandu
28 Eustace Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

First time to try Nepalese food and what an experience! Fantastic flavours very spicy. Excellent quality food and very very tasty. Good service and nice ambience. A great night out - can't wait to go back. The starter for two is yum!

The Waterside Inn
Opposite Howth Yacht Club, Harbour Road, North Co. Dublin, Howth, Dublin

Good food simply cooked. Fillet steak cooked to order and good quality meat. Sea bass was perfect. Very enjoyable evening at Wheelhouse. All main courses served with fries and a selection of vegetables. Really good value, good honest food.

The Bistro at Ella
7 Main Street, Howth, Howth, Dublin

Top class food and service at Ella's. We really enjoyed our first visit to this restaurant. The pork fillet with miniature apples was superb and the scallops and monkfish was expertly prepared and cooked. Not the cheapest restaurant but good value. Tables are quite small and close together, but this makes for a cosy atmosphere. We will definitely be back very soon.

Hilan Chinese & Korean Restaurant
45 Capel Street, City Centre North, Dublin

Last week myself and husband had a fantastic meal in the newly opened Chinese restaurant Hilan, for an unbelievable 50 Euro! Starters of BBQ ribs and seafood pancake were delicious. Mains for husband of beef in black bean sauce was to die for and duck Cantonese for me was stunning. Both dishes were served with boiled rice. We had a bottle of Merlot for 20Euro. Without wine this meal would have only cost 30 Euro! We will certainly return to this restaurant for the brilliant service and excellent value for money. On a slightly negative note, Hilan does not have a full bar licence and only accept cash, but it still does not take away from the fab night out we had there.

Silks Chinese Restaurant
5 The Mall , Co. Dublin, Malahide, Dublin

The food at Silks is always very good, however, the service can be painfully slow at times but the staff are always polite and mannerly. The one thing that does annoy me is that every time I go to Silks, having booked a table for 9.30 and arriving on time, there is always a 20 - 30 min. wait in the lobby for my table! Having being seated there is another 20 min. wait to order no to mention the long delays between courses, resulting in dinner finishing at 12.30am !
