This is one of the best restaurants I have eaten in in a long time. I ate with friends on a Saturday night and we all raved about it. The staff were really friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The food was of excellent quality. We chose from the €56 5 course dinner menu which has lots of choice to suit all tastes, including specials of the day. We had a variety from beef to fish to salad and all were delicious. For the quality of the food this menu is excellent value. The restaurant has a good wine menu and a nice bar in the conservatory for pre or post dinner drinks. All in all in terms of food quality, service and value I could not fault this place.

Went here for a pre theatre dinner before a show in the Grand Canal Theatre. My friend made the booking but I arrived first and the host acted like he expected me and made me feel very welcome. A jug of water was brought staight to the table without asking which is always good. The food was great. I had the veggie burger which was tasty and didn't fall to mush which often happens with. Chips were skinny and crispy with just the right amount of salt. The dish also comes with lovely thinly sliced onion rings. The service was good throughout and the host (owner?) was very friendly when we were leaving making us really want to come back. This will definitely be the pre theatre regular haunt for me from now on.

Fallon and Byrne
11-17 Exchequer Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Two of us ate in Fallon and Byrne on a busy Saturday night. The venue is great (big, airy room) and there was certainly a buzz as the restaurant was very busy. But herein lay the problem. The staff have obviously been told to turn over the tables very quickly and this led to a very rushed experience - wine being continuously topped up even when not required, plates being whipped away and the next course being delivered too quickly, much hovering of staff and pouncing as soon as any element of the meal was finished. As a consequence it was not a relaxing experience. The food was fine but not amazing at the price (maybe because I couldn't relax and enjoy it!). I should add that the staff were perfectly nice but I feel are under orders to turn tables quickly and this is a counter productive strategy. Given the amount of choice of good restaurants in Dublin now I would not return and wouldn't recommend it to others unfortunately.

Dalis
63/65 Main Street, Blackrock, Blackrock, Dublin

I went to Dalis - having not been for a while - with my partner on a weekend night. I was very impressed with the experience. From arrival the service was very good - very welcoming and friendly staff. Our waitress was very attentitive without being imposing. I really liked that bread (very good) was provided and our water glasses constantly topped up. Also she always asked before topping up our wine rather than rushing its consumption. We went for the set menu and the food was very good. We sat for quite a while over our meal and after it and never felt rushed. Overall a very good experience and I won't leave it so long before going back.

ely bar & brasserie
CHQ Building, Georges Dock, Dublin 1, City Centre, IFSC, Dublin

Dined here before a concert. Despite being really busy our waitress was excellent - very friendly, efficient and helpful. It was like she knew everyone would be in a rush due to the concert and was working hard to make sure all were served effieciently. She kept water glasses topped up and apolgised twice when one of our courses was a little delayed (hadn't even noticed!!). The food was good. The only complaint I would have is that myself and one other in our party had the fishcakes and very soon had quite bad bloating and indigestion!! I don't know what caused it but it was unusual 2 of us were effected in the same way! No one had any issues with the rest of the food which was tasty. Overally I would recommend for the great service and nice atmoshphere.

The Porterhouse (Parliament Street)
Parliament Street le Bar, Temple Bar, Dublin

Went here with a few friends for after work drinks and food. The decor is nice, if a bit touristy, and it is very handy if you are having a casual gathering and want to have a full drinks menu with the option of food. The food was fine and big portions. The service on the other hand was not good. I had booked a table but they had no record of the booking. Some food was missing and we had to ask 3 times for it to be delivered. It was very hard to get attention for drinks, the bill etc. Overall it is a nice pub with food as an add on but the service would need to improve for it to be at restaurant standard.

The Malt House
Old Malt Mall, High Street, Galway City, Galway

Ate here on a Friday night. We had the value menu which was good value for money. The choice is somewhat limited as you'd expect though there should be something for everyone. Unlike a previous reviewer we did have access to the full menu if desired. The service was really good and the waiters were friendly and attentive. The food was good though not outstanding (we had no complaints given the value). I did have two areas of improvment however. Firstly, although the restaurant offers value there was a lot of upselling going on. The waiter kept refilling our wine glasses even when we had only drunk a small amount and was clearly looking to push a 2nd bottle on us. They also demonstrated clear dissapointment that we didn't order desert. Secondly, the accoustics in the restaurant meant that individual voices carried very loudly. I really like a buzzy, lively restaurant but it actually was a bit distracting to our own conversation.

Nandos (Dundrum)
Sandyford Road, Dundrum Town Centre, South Dublin, Dundrum, Dublin

Strangely, I am writing this review having not actually eaten in this restaurant but based on my experience of trying to do so. A couple of friends and I arrived on spec and asked for a table (had tried to book but they don't do bookings). Although busy there was a short waiting list and we were prepared to wait or go for a drink nearby. However the hostess was very unhelpful to the point of being rude and seemed reluctant to accomodate us in any way, as if they didn't need the business and we were a hassle (despite being perfectly polite). We ended up leaving and having a pleasant meal elsewhere. This experience may have been a once off but I won't be returning preferring to spend my money in one of the many other restaurants in the area.
