Restaurant Reviews from Davinia
6-7 Jervis Street, Millennium Walkway, Dublin 1, City Centre, Italian Quarter, Dublin, Area Code:
Reviewed 29th September 2008 ( visited 26th September 2008 )This restaurant was excellent. We were waiting for our table, but it was fine as there is a bar at the front of the restaurant. We were given a booth for our table so we had our own private area, which was perfect for our group. The staff were very friendly and looked after us well. The food was delicious. The whole group thoroughly enjoyed their meal. We will definitely be returning!
Cactus Jacks Galway restaurant
Courthouse Lane, Galway City, Galway
Reviewed 05th August 2008 ( visited 02nd August 2008 )It was a busy evening and a number of groups had booked tables. However, the previous people were still eating at the tables so a large number of people had to wait. There was no waiting area and this caused problems. The chicken in the Enchiladas and Fajitas was quite dry. there was a difference in different servings of the Fajitas, so it seemed servings are inconsistent. I thought the cost of the side salad wasn't good value.
Chez Max (Baggot Street)
133 Lower Baggot Street, Dublin 2 , City Centre South, Dublin
I had a lovely meal here with my boyfriend. The staff were great! The food was good, but I felt it was a bit bland. For the amount we paid, I would have expected a bit more. My boyfriend had the musscles though, which he loved. It was a nice restaurant, but it wouldn't be somewhere i would go regulary.
Greenes Restaurant @ Hotel Isaacs
48 MacCurtain Street, By the Waterfall, Cobbled Courtyard Close, Cork City, Cork
I was very happy with my meal here. The food was delicious and the music playing added to the atmosphere. The staff were very nice. However, although they were attentive at the start, towards the end we had to call them over a few times. We had a lovely seat beside the waterfall. However, because of the lack of space, I was at the side of the table which meant I could not sit under the table properly. A few minor disappointments, but otherwise I enjoyed it.
TGI Friday (St Stephens Green )
St Stephens Green, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
Ate here with a gang of people and found the service very good. We went for the 2 courses for €15, which was very good value. The food was very nice - I have been disappointed in the past in TGIs, but enjoyed my meal this time. It's a great spot to go after work and they do great deals on cocktails also.
15 Castle Market Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
I went here with some friends on a Thursday night. We had the pate for starter, which was very nice and well-presented. I had the coq-au-vin for mains. It was nice but a little plain - didn't think there was much flavour to it. I was a bit disappointed with the service. The tables are very close together so there is no privacy. When passing a waiter, each time they pushed their way through instead of letting the customer walk past first. I thought it was strange also that they didn't do any non-alcoholic drinks except water!
Blackhorse Avenue, Blackhorse, Dublin
Had the carvery here one Sunday. I had the southern fried chicken, veg and chips. However, the chicken was just breaded chicken, not southern fried. As it was a cavery, there was not much to say on the service. When I went to pay though I asked for ketchup as the baskets were empty. The girl at the till shouted across the bar to people to get some. They filled the basket without even walking a few steps more to bring some up to the till for me. The portions were very big though so it was good value for money.
Lemongrass (Liffey Valley)
Arc Bar, Liffey Valley Centre, West Dublin, Lucan, Dublin
I ate here with some work colleagues and found the staff great. The food was delicious and we went for the early bird so it was great value. The portions served were quite big, which sometimes isn't the case with early bird. We were a group of 8 though and it took longer than expected for our main courses to arrive. We didn't have a booking though and it was a Wednesday night. I would definitely recommend it if you are out in Liffey Valley.
Canal Bank Cafe
146 Upper Leeson Street, Dublin 4, Ballsbridge, Dublin
I ate here with my boyfriend on a Sunday afternoon. The service was very good, but there were not many in the place. I had the club sandwich, which was great and it came with wedges also. My boyfriend had the chicken wings, which he loved! They come in huge portions though so you can't really order anything else with them which is a pity.
19 Lower Camden Street, Dublin 2, Camden Street, Dublin
Went here with boyfriend and we had to wait for a table, which was fine as we could go off and they rang us to let us know that it was free. However, I didn't find the service that great. We had to ask for drinks a few times from our waiter. We both had the burger which was delish. They're quiet big though so there's be no harm if they offered it in 2 sizes. Great value for money, but I don't see what the big fuss is about!
71-72 South Great Georges Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
Ate here with my boyfriend. I found the service attentive but felt we were being rushed out at the end. I didn't like how the dishes were served separately. I had sushi, which was lovely, and then some side dishes. I thought the chicken skewers were a bit plain. My boyfriend had a bento box, which was lovely, but the sushi in it wasn't great.
Brewbaker Coffee Shop
22 South Fredrick Street, City Centre South, Dublin
I ate here for lunch with a friend. The food was nice. i went for the chicken and peston panini, but though it was a little dry. I thought it was a bit over-priced for the amount and quality of food you get. We had to wait a while for the empty tables to be cleaned, while there seemed to be a lot of staff behind the counter.
McGowans of Phibsboro
Phibsboro, Phibsboro, Dublin
Ate here with a group of friends on a Sunday. It was very quite, but the staff were very attentive. The food was nice, and portions were very good for the price. The choice on the menu was great - with 5 options for the chicken wings. It's an ok place if you're in the area
Luigi Malones Restaurant
5/6 Cecilia Street, Dublin 2 , City Centre, Temple Bar, Dublin
I ate here with friends on a Wednesday night. It was quite busy for mid-week, which gave a great atmosphere. The service was great (and patient for a group that take ages to decide!). There was great offers on the early bird menu but we ordered a la carte. I had the calzone which was delish. We all loved our food and the portions were great. However, I was a bit disappointed with the Toberlone cheesecake. I thought it was a little bland!
The Restaurant @ Marks and Spencer
Marks and Spencer, Grafton Street, City Centre South, Dublin
I ate here for lunch with my boyfriend and was quite disappointed. They were very busy, but the service was rushed - they just wanted you in and out quickly. A waitress kept hitting in to my boyfriend everytime she went past without apologising. I love M & S food. However, there was nothing great about what we were served. It seemed as though they just opened the packets from the shop and heated them - not cooked from fresh. Wouldn't recommend going when it's busy.
Itsa @ Dun Laoghaire (Bagel Store)
The Pavilion, Royal Marine Road, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin
I had the breakfast bagel here, which is always great! I've been here a few times and find that the staff are great as they are always busy but everyone gets great service and are not waiting too long for their food. I think it's good value as they bagels are quite filling. Will definitely be back!
Mao Restaurant (Dun Laoghaire)
The Pavillion, South Co, Dublin, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin
I stopped in here for a quick dinner on a Friday evening. I was in a rush and the staff were very helpful in seating me and taking my order quickly. I had the Lemongrass and Chicken noodle salad. It was nice, but I found it a bit dry as all the dressing was at the end of the bowl and I couldn't get to it until I'd half the meal eaten. It is a nice place for lunch or dinenr with a group of friends, but food could be a bit better.
7 Ballsbridge Terrace, Dublin, Ballsbridge, Dublin
I ate here with a group from work for lunch. There was a large number of us and we only booked the table at short notice. However, they had an area aside for us when we arrived which we were very happy with. We were coming in a few at a time and the service was great, taking people's orders as they arrived at different times. The food was great. We went for the lunch menu, which is great value also. I was very happy with the meal - great place for lunch or dinner!
Unit 4 Old River House, Templeogue, Dublin
Went here for lunch with a group from work. I thought it was a great lunch deal - 10euro for starter, main and glass of wine. I had the crostini and lasagne. I was a bit disappointed with them though, as the crostini was a bit plain and i thought the lasagne might have come with salad or chips. But then I suppose for the amount you pay! The service was great also. It's a nice place to go for lunch but I don't think I'd go for dinner
Ristorante Da Roberta
161 Upper Salthill, Salthill, Salthill, Galway
I ate here with my boyfriend when I was down for the Races. We tried to eat here before but the queues were always so big, so I had high hopes for the place. However, first impression from the waiter wasn't great and the staff didn't check on us at all during the meal. I ordered the chicken bake which was gorgeous, but was far too hot! While my boyfriend ordered a Calzone, which came out cold and was wrong. This was recommended to me by friends and I don't know how, as I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, during a busy period anyway
Kudos (Liffey Valley)
Clarion Hotel, Dublin 22, Liffey Valley, Dublin
I ate here with a group from work. The food was lovely and well priced. The waitress was very helpful and was accomodating to one of our colleagues who arrived late. It's a nice place to go if you are in the area and there is a nice atmosphere.
Howards Way (Rathgar)
8 Orwell Road, Dublin 6, Rathgar, Dublin
Ate here for lunch. It is usually very busy but we got a table no problem. The service is alwasy good here and food delish! However, the chickpea salad is a bit too much and when ordering a ciabatta or similar it would be nice to have chips as an option instead of salad.
13 Dame Court, Dublin, City Centre South, Dublin
Went here with a group from work. We went for the early bird, but one of the items on the menu was all gone. There was something similar on the main menu, but my friends were not offered this, instead having to pick something completely different. I had a leek and potato soup for starter. I was told it was made with a ham stock, but it didn't taste anything like leek and potato at all. It took quite a while for the main course to come. Overall the meal was ok and good value on the early bird menue, but I won't be rushing back!
Chatham Street, City Centre South, Dublin
Ate here with a friend. It was great value for a 2 course dinner. However, te service wasn't great and it wasn't even that busy in the restaurant. The food was nice but nothing special.
The Merrion Inn Bar & Kitchen
188 Merrion Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin
Ate here with some friends and was disappointed with the service. After going to the bar to ask to order, the barman came and took drink orders of a large table who had just come in, when there was only 3 of us. The food was ok. I had chicken and mushroom pasta, with garlic bread. The sauce was a bit thick though. Wasn't impressed over all and won't be returning!
La Palma Ristorante Italiano
Parnell st, Waterford, Waterford City, Waterford
A friend recommended this restaurant to me and I was glad he did. I was very impressed with it. The staff were very attentive and we were brought a taster of soup before our meal. I had the brushetta for starter and the ravioli for main course. The food was delicious, but although I'm usually quite full after ravioli, I wasn't this time and was glad to have ordered veg on the side. We had the chef's special for dessert, which looked and tasted great. Would definitely recommend it!
Olesya's Wine Bar
18 Exchequer Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
Went here for dinner and over all was happy with my experience. The staff were very nice and helpful. I had the risotto of the day, which was chicken and mushroom. Thought it was delish! Was the perfect amount as well. Would defo recommend it!
156 Phibsboro Road, Phibsboro, Dublin
Went here for lunch and it was delicious! Had a ciabatta instead of going for the carvery option. The food is great value. The cafe is very busy and it can be hard to get a table sometimes, especially if there are a few of you, but it just proves the quality of the food.
Siam Thai (Andrews Street)
14/15 Andrews Street, City Centre South, Dublin
Had dinner here with a friend on a Sunday evening. It wasn't toobusy so it was nice and relaxing. The decor of the place was really nice and the staff were very friendly. I had the sweet and sour chicken, which was delish! My friend had the Massaman curry, which was ok, but not as hot as expected. Although the food was nice, I didn't think it was great value.
The Gallery Restaurant at the Church
Junction of Mary St. & Jervis St., Dublin 1, City Centre North, Dublin
Ate here on a Saturday night. Thought the venue was amazing! There was a great atmosphere in the place, which is still felt in the restaurant because you are over-looking the bar. I thought the food was nice, but nothing special about it. The service wasn't great either, only saw the waitress when she took our order!
Bijou Bistro & Wine
46/47 Highfield Road, Dublin 6, Rathgar, Dublin
Ate here with a group from work on a Friday night. We had a table booked as there were quite a few of us. The food was delicious! I had salmon for starter and the risotto for main...I would definitely recommend the risotto. Everyone was extremely happy with their meals. We had been for lunch before, so tried dinner this time. The service was fantastic! Had a great experience!
The Drury Court Hotel, Stephen Street Lower, City Centre South, Dublin
Ate here with a friend and we both ordered pizza. They were nice, but I felt the meat on them was a bit too salty. Great value though! It was a Monday so was quiet enough, but musicians were performing, which was nice. Service was great
1 St Andrews Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
Ate here with a friend and ordered 4 tapas to share. It was quite busy but we got a seat no problem. The food was nice but a bit bland i thought. The service wasn't great, as we had to go looking for a waiter when we wanetd more drinks.
26-28 Clarendon Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
Ate here with a group of friends and had a great experience. The service was great from start to finish. It was a busy night, but everything was great. The food came quickly and was very nice. It is a great place to go with a group of friends.
Bradys Castleknock Inn
Old Navan Road, Castleknock, Dublin
Ate here with a few friends on a Saturday afternoon. There wasn't much atmosphere in the place and was very dark for daytime. The waitress was very friendly and helpful though. The food was lovely and there's a nice choice on the menu. I had the chicken fahitas and were delish and very filling.
Wrights Anglers Rest
Strawberry Beds, West Dublin, Dublin 20, Chapelizod, Dublin
Ate here for a family dinner and really enjoyed it. The food was delicious. I had the goats cheese for starter and penne for main. Others went for the swordfish, which was a special that day and thought it was great. The service was great. As it was a birthday, we had brought a cake, which the waitress brought out. Definitely be back here.
The Porterhouse (Central)
45-47 Nassau Street, City Centre South, Dublin
Was here with some friends on a Friday night for some food. It was very busy and took us a while to get a table, but the waiter kindly said he would help us get one. My friends ordered burgers, which they thought were delicious. The portions are great value, and chips are lovely. I went for one of the specials - a feta cheese and spinach calzone pizza. I didnt realise they did specials, and thought this was a great addition to the menu. The pizza was lovely, however, the side salad wasn't great. The food in Porterhouse is always great. have been many times before, and will be again!
La Bucca & Wine Bar
Corballis Demesne, Ratoath, Ratoath, Meath
Went here with my partner as we'd heard a lot about it. The service was a bit slow. Had chicken wings and mushroom brusceta for starters, which were delish. The sauce on the wings was a bit overwhelming though. Had meatballs and pesto and chicken for mains, also great. However, I ordered mine as the starter size, but there was not much difference in the size. The garlic cheese potatoes were a bit too greasy. Overall it was nice, but nothing spectacular.
The Porterhouse (North )
Cross Guns Bridge, Glasnevin, Dublin
Food here is delicious! Went on a Wednesday afternoon and was v quiet. Had the sombrero pizza, which was great. However, would recommend that you get the sauce on the side. Chips were delish also. Great portions!
Eden Bar & Lounge
Grange Road, Rathfarnham, Dublin
I went on a Friday lunchtime. It was busy, but not too bad. I had a sandwich while my friends went for the carvery. We all enjoyed the food; the turkey was delicious. Often turkey can be quite dry, but not in this case. The servings for the carvery were quite large, but this was reflected in the price. The service was quick and friendly.
Broadmeadow Castle, (Across from Tesco Stores), Ashbourne, Meath
My boyfriend and I went here for dinner on a Sunday. It wasn't that busy but we were waiting a while to be served. However, when we were everything was great after. The food was delicious. We shared a garlic bread with cheese and then both ordered pasta dishes. I thought it was a great idea that you could add either chicken or prawns to your dish! The only thing about the restaurant was that it was very dull - grey walls with no art at all to lighten the place up.
Ryan's of Ratoath Bar & Restaurant
Main Street, Ratoath, Meath
A group of us had a table booked for here. When we arrived at the bar for drinks, we were left waiting, while 4 barmaids chatted behind the bar. We ordered our food and were seated when it was ready. However, the food was on the table when we came out so you'd no choice where you wanted to sit, which I thought very strange! The portions served are far too big and it is a massive waste of food. You get 2 servings of chicken or fish and then need to order veg separately. The food was enjoyable though. If they re-did the menu for smaller portions at a lower price it would be far better.
Eddie Rockets (Blanchardstown)
Blanchardstown Shopping Centre, West Dublin, Blanchardstown, Dublin
Went here for lunch with my boyfriend. We were seated straight away as it wasn't that busy - but at a dirty table! The food was only ok - nothing great about it. The fries are over-priced, but you get good value for the size of the burger.
Ming Court Chinese Restaurant
Unit 453 Blanchardstown Shopping Centre, West Dublin, Blanchardstown, Dublin
Myself and my partner went here for dinner. The service was very good and we ordered straight away. My partner had the sweet and sour chicken which was delicious. I had the chicken chow mein and wasn't that impressed with it - it was quite oily, and I didn't finish it. I've been here before and my meal was good, so I'll just order something else next time!
Ashleigh Centre, Main Street, Castleknock, Dublin
9 of us went here for a family dinner and we opted for the early bird menu. The service wasn't good at all here. 2 of us arrived a bit later and although they had glasses of water, there was none for us. During our meal the waitress didn't check on us at all. A jug of water wasn't brought to us until my brother had to ask for it 3 times. The early bird menu is a great deal of 3 courses and half bottle wine for €25. However, the food portions are quite small. I got soup to start which was lovely, but as it was broth I would have liked some bread - they had a side plate set out for it. Every other table got some automatically, also the salmon was served with one prawn at our table 2 at others. These are only minor things but it seems there are different standards for larger groups than couples. Everyone enjoyed their starters and main course. However, there was no veg served with the meals, and as it was an early bird menu, there was no side orders on the menu. The rhubarb dessert was a bit disappointing. We were all a bit hungry after the meal so although it's a good deal, I'd prefer to pay more and be full!
Howards Way (Churchtown)
11 Braemor Road, South Dublin, Churchtown, Dublin
I have been here a few times with work in small groups but today a group of 16 of us went. I always thought the service was good, and today it was exceptional. It's a very popular spot for lunch so its best to book a table to be sure. Our orders were taken and we were all served at the same time. It's a small restaurant so we took up a lot of room. The food as always was delicious. I had the chicken brucheta with 2 of the salads. It's very filling and great value for money. Definitely worth a visit.
The Old Orchard Inn
76 Butterfield Avenue, Rathfarnham, Rathfarnham, Dublin
Went here on a Saturday evening. Waitress was friendly and we were served quickly. I had the chicken stir fry and thought it was delicious - bit too much sauce though. My boyfriend had the fish and chips which he enjoyed. Portions were good also.
Clarion Hotel Limerick, Limerick City, Limerick
I ate here on a Wednesday evening before going to a meeting. The waitress took our orders and brought our drinks straight away. The food was delicious. However, we were waiting quite a while for it to come. We ordered dessert also, which took extremely long to come, although it wouldn't have needed much preparation.
Nenagh, Nenagh, Tipperary
I stopped for a quick lunch here. I was served quickly, which suited. It was after lunchtime so it wasn't too busy. The food was lovely, very tasty, although I thought the side salad should have had a bit more variety. I had a muffin also, but it was quite dry as it had been sitting out on the counter.
Corballis Demesne, Ratoath, Meath
I visited the cafe on a Sunday for breakfast/brunch. As it was a nice day, it suited to have the outdoor seating. The staff were attentive. However, there wasn't too much of a choice on the breakfast menu. My partner was hoping for a fry, but the main item was omlettes (with different fillings). The food was very tasty but I felt it was over-priced for what we received.
6-7 Jervis Street, Millennium Walkway, Dublin 1, City Centre, Italian Quarter, Dublin
This restaurant was excellent.
Little Caesars of Rathfarnham
Rathfarnham Orchard, Butterfield Ave, South Dublin, Rathfarnham, Dublin
I go here quite a bit as I work nearby. The service and food are always great, and it's perfect for a quick lunch or for dinner. I generally go for the pizza as it's always delicious. I will definitely be going back.
112 Upper Drumcondra Road, North Dublin, Drumcondra, Dublin
I was really impressed with this restaurant. A group of us had a table booked for a Friday night. The decor of the place was lovely. It was quite busy in the restaurant but the service was great. The food was delicious. It is great for groups of people, but may be a bit noisey at busy times for people looking for a quite meal. I will definitely be returning.
Blanchardstown Shopping Centre, Dublin 15, Blanchardstown, Dublin
The service here wasn't great. When we were seated we were brought spicey nuts and the waitress just walked away again without asking if we wanted a drink. There were only 3 or 4 other tables so it wasn't as though she had to rush off. When our main course arrived, they didn't come together. I ordered the Brushcetta Formaggio Caprino for starter. I thought it was quite small for the price. For main course we had a pizza and the grilled chicken. The food was delicious, although there was a bit too much cheese on the pizza and it was very chewy. My friend ordered vegetables with the grilled chicken, expecting a selection of veg, but it was just green beans. Over all the food was good, but the service and atmosphere was lacking.
Chrysanthemum Chinese Restaurant
Unit 1 Old Orchard Inn, Butterfield Ave, Dublin 14, Rathfarnham, Dublin
A group of us went for the lunch menu. There's not too much of a choice on this menu but it is presumably for those in a rush. However, the food was quite slow at coming out. Our table and another table were being served at the same time so they brought out their starters and some of ours, but not all of ours so one person was waiting. The food was nice though. A service charge was added, which I felt was a bit much for a table of four at lunch time.
Mexico to Rome
23 East Essex Street, Dublin 2, City Centre, Temple Bar, Dublin
This is perfect if you are looking for something tasty before a night-out/show in town. The food reflects the price range. The service was excellent. However, the restaurant is a bit cramped so if you are looking for a relaxed evening, this would not suit.
Cactus Jacks Galway
Courthouse Lane, Galway City, Galway
It was a busy evening and a number of groups had booked tables.
Mix Asian Fusion Restaurant
Unit 7, First Floor, Corballis Shopping Centre, Ratoath, Meath
I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The staff were very attentive and polite. I never had to ask for something without them offering it first. The food was delicious. I sometimes find with Chinese food that the sauce can be too rich, but not in this case. The presentation was excellent and different than any restaurant I've been in before. I will definitely be returning.
