Ever since our last visit here in August last year, we have received notification of promotions, which we signed up for. But we never got the opportunity to dine here until last Saturday night. This time we brought our 4yo Daughter with us. They prepared a pasta dish for Her with a lovely mushroom sauce, we both had starters main, dessert and coffee. While waiting for the starters a small bowl of chowder was brought out to us compliments of the house - nice touch. I had the medallions of beef for main, & my OH had the duck. Both were presented superbly, and both tasted divine. As we were full neither of us could finish the desserf. On top of this, I had a pint of Guinness, and my OH had a large glass of wine. Cost? Would You believe change out of €60? Honest. It was heartening to see a lot more people there on Saturday night as against the last time we were here. This really is a superb restaurant, and I cannot also not praise the staff highly enough. We will be back!!!

The Brown Bear
Two Mile House, Naas, Kildare

We went here for my birthday celebratory dinner, and TBH, it's the best restaurant for miles around. I had mussels for starters & duck for mains. OH skipped starters but had the hake for mains. Our little one had fish and chips. EVERYTHING was cooked to perfection, and we all had colcannon with our mains - quite simply the best colcannon I have ever tasted. We ordered desserts, and I had a coffee. The desserts took ages, and I was nearly going to leave, but then they served us with my dessert plate dressed upin celebration of my birthday - that's why it took a while. Beautifully presented plate of dessert, and personal message on the plate for me. Really touched by this. Our 2nd time being here in 4 months, and the menu completely changed since the last time. This has to be Kildare's best kept secret &b we cannot praise this restaurant highly enough. We will most certainly be back,

The Oar House Fish Restaurant
8 West Pier, North Co. Dublin, Howth, Dublin

Four times we have driven to Howth from Kildare looking to eat here, four times we qwere told we would have to wait 1-2 hours due to reservations and being busy. Today, we struck gold, only had to wait 30 minutes, so we made the booking. And it was worth it, Now we know why it's always so busy here. 2 Adults & our 5yo Daughter were seated promptly at the time we were told we could have a seat. Straight away they brought over some crayons & pictures for our Daughter to colour in. OH went for the buffalo prawns, I went for the steamed mussels-AWESOME is the only word to describe both platters as we shared. For mains, Wife went for the calamari, while I went for the fish & chips. We were both full after mains, so we shared a toffee & apple sponge, something which went down a treat with superb coffee. Our starters were accompanied by home made bread, and we bought a loaf of the brown bread, which I can highly recommend. At one stage we went to the loo-an experience I would also recommend. Why? At the top of the stairs to the loo is a collection of old radio equipment, and along the corridor to the toilet is a small but beautiful art collection, which I believe is for sale. Any drawbacks? I would find it hard to find one, except maybe the tables were a wee bit close together, but I am really being nitty picking here. Overall, an excellent experience, the way the staff handled our 5yo was something to be commended, service was top-notch, food was superb. Now we know why it's so difficult to get a table here. But we are hooked, and will be back.

Rathwood Restaurant
Rath, Tullow, Carlow

Am amazed that this will be the first comment on what i can only describe as a beautiful place. Nice staff and excellent food really compliment eating here. Had soup to start complimented with brown wholesome bread. I think there was a choice of 3 for main course, but I went for roasted bacon. This main course was enormous, had potatoes and 3 vegs to keep the bacon company on the plate. But, it's the desserts that makes this place excel. I cannot be ceretain, but I would say I was presented with a choice of 10 different desserts- ALL beautifully presented. I opted for the chocolate cake and fresh cream, all washed down with an excellent coffeee, with a nice biscuit as an accompanyment. This place works as a carvery. You pay at the till, and they give You vouchers for whatever else You want after the course You are paying for. Works extrememly well. The music in the background was just perfect, and the whole feeling was superb. Yes, Rathwood, may be a hidden treasure. I won't stop singing it's praises.

Nandos (Dundrum)
Sandyford Road, Dundrum Town Centre, South Dublin, Dundrum, Dublin

Never came across a set up where you were seated, handed a menu and told to go to the till to order...AND PAY for what You are ordering. We can find NO fault with the food, but sure will never go again, as we found the portions miniscule and had to order again..AND Pay before eating. The coke was bottomless, as was the frozen yoghurt for kids dessert. But both My OH and myself didn't bother with a dessert as were getting absolutly sick and tired of having to pay for everything PRIOR to being served whatever we paid for. What a crazy set-up. First time here, and will also be our last.

John Benny Moriarty
Strand Street, Dingle, Kerry

I'm not sure were we in the same restaurant as the previous reviewer. The place was also packed when we walked in. We were seated reasonably quickly. I opted for the mussels as a starter ( which sadly they had run out of ) so went for the chowder instead. OH had a fish platter as a main only, whereas I opted for the sirloin, which was delicious. Our Daughter went for a kids pasta platter and She cleaned the plate, which says it all IMHO. Service was very good, staff friendly ( the place was packed with GAA supporters).I really find it hard to find fault here & I highly recommend this place and we will deffinatly be back.

Ladies View Cafe
Ladies View, Killarney, Killarney, Kerry

I hope I am commenting on the same cafe we were in last week, as the Ladyview we stopped in is a good 20 kms south of Killarney. But going on the pictures in the menupages site, it is the same. This is true to it's description - only a cafe. But what a cafe!!! And the setting must be as good as anywhere in this beautiful country - scenery simply superb. We only had a snack here to 'fill a gap'. I didn't have anything to start with, the OH had soup. I went for the salmon salad for a main course, and it was excellent. OH went with a quiche. I went for the apple tart & fresh cream for desert, all washed down with an excellent cup of coffee. As I say, this is only a cafe, so the choice is a bit limited. But no complaints from us one bit. And that scenery right outside - AWESOME!!

Randles Court Hotel
Muckross Rd, Killarney, Killarney, Kerry

We stayed here on a 2 night B7B with one evening meal included. We opted for the Saturday night, as we also brought a birthday cake for our Daughter's 5th birthday with us. The staff were superb & nothing was too much trouble for them. Food was superb, service was top notch. I had soup to start and it was accompanied with beautiful bread, my Wife also went for the soup. we both had steaf for dinner, and it was cooked to perfection. They also mad chicken nuggets and chips for our Daughter. I had a bread & butter dessert and it was excellent. All rounded off with coffee. Overall the meal was excellent. If I may, may I also compliment the hotel on their rooms. We stayed in a junior suite, and there was enough room for another king sized bed. I cannot praise this hotel high enough and yes, we will most certainly be back - already looking at going back down for the halloween weekend. TOP NOTCH!

Flesk Restaurant
Main Street, Killarney, Kerry

We went to the tourist capital of Ireland for a weekend break, and ended up here for a late dinner. No booking, place was reasonably full, and atmosphere seemd good. We were brought promptly to a table, and I had to ask someone to stand up so I could get to my table. When the waitress brought the menus to us, we were informed their credit card machine was out-of-order, and would have to pay with cash. The waitrss told me there was an ATM directly across the road, but she never told me, there was a 15 minute queue to get to the machine. Surely a restaurant in such a place as Killarney would have some sort of back-up service for their CC machine? Of course, the poor bloke I had asked to stand so I could get to my table had to move twice more, before I was seated for dinner. Food was not bad at all, we had starters, I had a steak for main course, and my OH had a lobster cum mussels platter. The steak was superb, but sadly, some of the mussels left a lot to be desired. One was full of dirt. This was pointed out to the waitress, and to be fair, they replaced pronto with a small pate of more seafood, which was actually good. Then our 4yo Daughter wanted to go to the toilet, I went - no the guy who had already stood for me 3 times was finished by this time. I brought our 4yo to the gents, and TBH, it was disgusting, wet floor, stench so, we came back. My Wife then brought the 4yo to the ladies, and TBH, remarked the ladies was in much better condition than the gents. We decided that enough was enough and paid up and left. I have to compliment the Flesk on my food, and would have overlooked the problem with the mussels, but with the CC machine broken and the very poor state of the toilets, saldy, we won't be back. Oh, and the marks for the service would have been much higher but for the state of the gents.

TGI Friday (Dundrum)
Dundrum Town Centre, Dublin 14, Dundrum, Dublin

Brought a neice out for lunch and asked where she would like to go - she opted for TGI's -WHAT A MISTAKE. We were sat down reasonably quickly, but after that everything went belly up.We had the 3 4 all for starters - @ €18.85 - it was a total disappointment. For main course, my OH had the NY strip steak - She says it wasn't too bad, but again a disgrace @ €22.50. I had the burger, and would have been better off not bothering at all. The burger was completly dry, tasted hmm, tasteless, and was dressed with among things, a RAW onion ring..ONE ring.We struggled to attract the waiters attention for the dessert menu ( as well as to get the bill). Desserts consisted of a brownie, kids sundae, while I had the coffee. The biggest shock was to discover we had to pay 5% 'service' charge ( I use that word VERY loosely), and then when the waiter presented the machine for the credit card we were asked if we would like to TIP??? I can honestly say this was the worst meal I have ever eaten anywhere, and can guarantee I will NEVER be back. What a waste of a hundren quid! My only other regret is I didn't read up on some of the reviews here prior to going there.

Angus Joe's Steak House
Main Street, Naas, Kildare

After 6 months we decided to try Angus Joe's again. This time we were sat upstairs ( which I never knew existed ) & can only say the decor up there is even better than downstairs. Loved everything about the place, food good but service seems always to be a bit of an issue. Nothing major, but we had to call for the dessert menus. Will go again, but will need to not be in any sort of hurry.

Round Room Restaurant
Bunratty Castle Hotel, Bunratty, Clare

Don't know if this qualifies, but I would like to praise the hotel for their superb breakfasts. It was buffet and everything was simply delightfully cooked and presented. HIGHLY recommended!!!

Kathleen's Pub & Restaurant- Bunratty Castle Hotel
Bunratty Castle Hotel, Bunratty, Clare

We were here for a wedding, and decided to have a light lunch snack in Kathleen's pub. I have a steak sandwich, and the OH had the pasta. Excellently presented, and food went down a treat. Also very reasonably priced. Loved everything about the place, and we will be back.

The Egg Cafe (Avoca Rathcoole)
Naas Road, Rathcoole, Dublin

Hadn't been in here for a long time as I had always found it both expensive, and the choice very limited. But, last Saturday I seccumbed to the aches in my belly and ventured in. On the way up to the restaurant, I wandered through the shop, and have to compliment them on their vast selection of wares. But the main reason for being there was food. I had the soup & for main course, the lamb shank. Both were delicious. I didn't bother with a dessert as they had nothing on their menu which appealed to me. But their prices? WOW, Really, they need to look at these, €5.95 for a bowl of soup is way over the top in my estimation, especially in these times. I give them full marks for service, atmosphere and food, but sadly, for the value, a big ZERO.

Hanged Man's
Milltown, Newbridge, Kildare, Newbridge, Kildare

Arrived here, 15 minutes after the early bird finished, and TBH, the prices are a bit on the heavy side. BUT, the food was divine. I had the chowder for starters, and it was lovely - and LOTS of seafood in it - and all accompanied by their home made brown bread, which is divine. They made a pasta dish for our 4yo Daughter. I had the sirloin and the OH had the medallions. Both were cooked to perfection. On completion of our meals, I asked about where the brown bread could be bought, and was told, they are thinking about starting to sell it but then came back with a loaf wrapped up for, and no charge. Overall, the meal was simply delicious, and we will deffinatly be back.

Thaiger Restaurant
Courtyard Shopping Centre, Newbridge, Kildare

I haven't eaten here for a very long time, but tonight we ordered delivery for my OH & myself. I found it to be most disappointing. My Wife & I had the combination for starters, and the chicken satay was like a breadboard it was burned to a cinder. But what really got to us was this: the theme of this restaurant is Thai, but they used basmati rice - I could have gone to an Indian restaurant for that. Really disappointing. Also, they have dropped a number of choices in their take-away menu, and also now there is no number beside each of their items, which needs getting used to. I cannot rate their atmosphere, so left it at 5, and I cannot fault their service - they said it would be delivered within 35 minutes, had the food in 30. However, for the food, I give them a zero & think they need to re-evaluate their charges. Overall a most disappointing experience, one we will not make use of in the future.

Yamamori Sushi, Tengu
38-39 Lower Ormond Quay, Dublin 1, City Centre North, Dublin

Having read & heard lots of good things about this place, we headed there for an afternoon meal. Promptly sat by a door, which was to completely ruin our experience here - this was the door to the outside concourse for the smokers. I am not criticising smoking here, but am complaining bitterly about Yamamori's solution to this issue. EVERY time someone went outside for a smoke, we were given a siberian blast by the damn door. Food was top notch, but the waitress forgot an order for our daughter - in fairness to the waitress, she gave us ice cream on the house. I could easily allow for the forgetfullness of the waitress, BUT will NEVER forget that damn door. Sorry, this place is not a patch on it's namesake in George's Street.

Bianconis Bistro
232 Merrion Road, Dublin 4, Ballsbridge, Dublin

We were members of a party of about 20 there for a Family reunion & we didn't pay, so cannot comment on the value. However I do have to say, the food was excellently prepared and tasted superb. I had the salmon for starters,, then the sirloin, and both tasted really good, with the steak done exactly as I wanted. Our 4 yo Daughter was also well looked after, and she loved the pasta. We will be back!

TriBeCa
65 Ranelagh Village, Dublin 6, Ranelagh, Dublin

Last Friday night we had a Family reunion and a party of 13 duly rocked up for our prebooked table. Everything went according to plan. We had 3 baskets of the superb chicken wings for starters, for main courses we made different choices. I opted for the steak, which I can only say was SUPERB. I noticed a few having the burger, and must compliment on the size of the burger. We all had different desserts, and can only say mine again was excellent. Our arrangement was that we split the bill between nine of us, and it cost less than €55/person ( this also included a number of bottles of wine as well as some coffees). I was really impressed with everything about this place, except perhaps it's a bit small for the number of tables here - But I WILL be back!!

Yamamori Noodles
71-72 South Great Georges Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

We have been here many times, and have never been disappointed. We both had the Lunch Bent specials, and it was very good. Not overfillying, just enough to fill us. Always recommend it, and after this meal we will again. Also, the service is very good too.

The Munster Bar
Bailey's New Street, Waterford City, Waterford

We went to the new Crystal factory & got peckish, but wsn't impressed with what was on offer in their cafe (not a restaurant). Asked there where we could get a Sunday lunch, and the staff recommended us to The Munster. And we were highly impressed with the food on offer there, large helpings, friendly staff, and if I can recommend one meal to order...get the lamb stew. Loved it! And it's only €7 per portion. Next time in Waterford, we will be to the Munster again. I am giving a 5 for the atmosphere, but it was Sunday lunch, so not many people there, but as the day was beautiful, I thought it would be unfair to criticise the establishment because of that. Overall...VERY impressed.

Johnnie Fox's Pub
Glencullen, Dublin Mountains, Glencullen, Dublin

Every time we have visitors from overseas, we bring them to Johnnie Foxes as we have never been let down by the faire. We haven't had any overseas visitors for a while. That all changed this past week, and we duly went up to JF's on Saturday evening. And we were not let down either. 2 starters (the mussels), 4 main courses ( 2 steaks, one duck & one mahi-mahi), 4 desserts, and a kiddy meal, plus 6 cool drinks & a bottle of red wine all for €140. Incredibly reasonable, and all food to satisfaction. If I could though, I would make a comment on the loos. Like something out of the middle ages, totally disgusting, and the gents 'trough' had a pool of urine permanently sitting in the unrinal, generating a disgusting smell. Cannot comment on the ladies, but the gents sure needs some attention.

Athgarvan Inn
Athgarvan Newbridge, Co. Kildare, Newbridge, Kildare

Having said we would go back, we went this past Sunday. We arived around 17h00, and were offered the lunch menu. It was fine with us, I had a soup starter, bacon and cabbage for main, which was superb,& the proverbial apple tart for desert. OH had no starter but did have a main course, dessert. Our little one had a kiddy meal of cocktail sausages & chips. Overall, we had 1 starter, 2 main courses, 2 desserts, 2 coffee's, 3 cokes, a mini bottle of wine & the kiddies meal. I would again give it full marks, except for the value - the overall bill came to €64, which I thought was just pushing the boundary of feeling a wee bit overpriced ( eg: €4.95 for a bowl of veggie soup). Other than that, absolutly top notch, we all left feeling full, and we will be back. As we were leaving there were plates of juicy steaks being brought out for customers, which means we must have arrived as the lunch menu was finishing. Good enough reason to go back again:-)

Central Grill Restaurant Takeaway
Ballymany Shopping Centre, Newbridge, Kildare

Living not 2 kms from the Central, I have never dined in the restaurant, although everytime I go there, it seems to be busy. However, we have take-away every Friday night, and for our money, the best chipper in Newbridge by a long way, is the Central in Ballymany. OH always has fish, I try to vary, some weeks burger, others chicken. I have never had a bad meal there, the service is top notch, and whenever I bring my 3yo Daughter there, they always give Her a lollipop - thats a nice touch. Yes, for me, excellent service, top service for such a busy chipper, great food, and am giving 5 stars for atmosphere, though am not sure how one rates atmosphere in a chipper:-)

L'Officina by Dunne & Crescenzi (Kildare)
Kildare Chic Outlet Shopping Village, Kildare, Kildare Town, Kildare

Went there, and had to wait to be seated - no prob with that. But we were taken to a table by the waitress & the table was still not reset from the previous diners. When set, one fork was dirty - maybe an oversight, so let it go. Ordered a side salad as a starter, and decided to have bread with it (€2 for bread??) but bread was only brought to the table while eating main course. Sent it back as it was too late. Main course was 'ok' but the size of the servings left a lot to be desired. Really couldn't finish fast enough and get out of the place as we found it incredibly overpriced, and service was very poor. Wouldn't recommend the place to anyone, and the Village really needs competition pronto.
