6 of us dropped in (taking a well earned break during a long cycle back to Dublin). Restaurant was busy, with a nice atmosphere. We seated ourselves and service was efficient. Food was yummy, and great coffee. No complaints on the prices. Although the staff were fine ... it would be top marks if they were a bit friendlier.

Spice Of India (Clonsilla)
5 Weavers Row, West Co. Dublin, Clonsilla, Dublin

As a fan of their Dublin restaurant, I was happy to see Spice of India pop up two villages over from me. We ate there twice recently and have been very happy with the experiences. Food excellent, good friendly service, nicely refurbished inside and warm atmosphere. The Sunday lunch special is brilliant value. Looking forward to returning again. And again. Only call-out is: no parking facilities, so you have to fend for yourself a little in Clonsilla village, but don't let that put you off.

Spice of India
Market Street (Kells), Kells, Meath

Our visit to Spice of India this past weekend was great. We had a €20 Menupages voucher entitling us to €40 off our bill. The kids tried everything, from the fresh poppadums with dips to spicy chicken dishes with chickpeas. Service was good, friendly and attentive. Recommend.

The Helm Bar & Restaurant
The Harbour, Westport, Mayo

On some other sites, this establishment is rated as number 2 in Westport. So on our last evening we ventured in (with no booking). First of all .. it's a bar. Ok, every table is filled with diners, but it's a bar. Because we hadn't booked we put our name down for a table for 2, and settled ourselves at the bar for a few beers. We were told up to 45 minutes for a table, so we were prepared to wait. 90 minutes later we were seated. The wait is not a complaint, just an observation. During our wait, numerous parties came in, many of which were dressed up in a more glamorous fashion than the bar surroundings might invite. And a great deal of those diners were clearly taken a little aback that it was simply a bar. Anyway, the food was great. Piping hot. And very generous in portions. The menu was really varied making it hard to chose something. The atmosphere was really good. Then, the bill ... really really good value. So, if you want a really good feed, with good atmosphere, in a pub grub environment and light on the pocket ... this is the place for you. I will return, and I may not book in advance, just so we can go with the flow again!

Restaurant Merlot @ Westport Plaza Hotel
Castlebar Street, Westport, Mayo

9 of us popped into the Westport Plaza Hotel for a bite to eat before we made our way back to Meath after a great stay in Westport. It's really nice with big comfy seating. Good menu. Food came out smartly and piping hot. Was really good food. We had a few young children with us and the staff were very good to interact with them on their little asks. At the end of it .. the bill was really excellent value. Will definitely return!

Mangos Seafood Restaurant
Bridge Street, Westport, Mayo

This restaurant came recommended by a friend when she heard we were going to be in Westport for a few days. We booked on-line (using menupages on my phone no less). Very glad I booked, 'cos it's a popular and busy place. Understandably so. It was one of those great dining experiences that you savour and remember. It's a nice cosy small restaurant with a family feel. Service was excellent, very friendly & attentive but not over the top. Just the right amount of banter and chat. This is always a good sign, especially when the house is full ... they still take a little time to interact with the diners. So the food: Cajun spiced prawns - didn't want them to end. Pan-fried organic Clare island salmon pan-fried with avocado butter - melt in the mouth. Silver hill duck served with honey orange & ginger sauce - loved it (tiniest of criticism... would have enjoyed more sauce). My wife had the profiteroles for dessert and they were pretty much as good as you get. The only peculiar experience we had with Mangos was trying to find it! It is literally at the top of Bridge street, but an on street tree hides it from easy discovery. We spent quite some time walking around a number of streets before we found it, which is not an unpleasant experience in Westport as it turns out! I would highly recommend Mangos. Make sure to book in advance. And enjoy!

Kasturi Restaurant (Dublin)
Unit 3, Village Court, West Co. Dublin, Lucan, Dublin

This restaurant came recommended, so maybe the expectations were a little high. However, was fairly disappointed. The food was just OK. Definitely had better in many other Indian restaurants. The early bird menu was definitely very limited, and un-interesting. The a la carte had better choice, but nowhere near the ranges that others offer. But what really dragged this experience down was the service. Rarely have I come across such apathy and disinterest in customers. It was borderline rude in my opinion. It was a quiet Thursday evening, so nobody was rushed off their feet. There was no excuse for not making any effort to be courteous and pleasant. Will not go back.

Spice of India
Market Street (Kells), Kells, Meath

This is a great little spot. I brought 7 friends here on Saturday. I choose it because it had between 4.0 and 5.0 stars already attributed to it, primarily from recent reviews. The € pricing was very attractive and the fact that the early bird menu was available up to 19:30 on a Saturday was simply too tempting not to try. We were not disappointed. Everything we ordered was good, generous in portion, temperature hot and cooked to our liking. The staff were friendly, attentive and the speed of service was excellent. This is not a criticism, simply an observation: the layout and décor is simple, straight forward with no bells and whistles. I will definitely return and have no hesitations in recommending it as a good casual dining experience with very tasty food!

Bear
35 South William Street, Dublin 2, South William Street, Dublin

Overall, I liked Bear. But I don't get the hype. It's basically a steak and chips place, simply done and executed. The steak naming on the menu is a little confusing, so unless you know the various cuts from the animal then it's a hard choice. I did enjoy my steak (Rump)and it was cooked the way I ordered it. I think I'd go for the feather steak next time. The million dollar fries were definitely a bit different, but I got bored with them half way through. Service was just ok. I really liked the look and feel of the place and I would return again.

La Bucca Dunboyne
The Green Centre, Dunboyne Village, Dunboyne, Co. Meath, Dunboyne, Meath

As a family we decided to check out the tenner fest deal on offer in La Bucca in Dunboyne. We also had a seperate free entre offer, but didn't think we could combine both. We were wrong, it wasn't a hassle. In fact everything was a pure pleasure ...from being greeted, sat, attention by waiting staff, to the food and the bill. The kids loved it and our waitress spent a lot of time interacting with them! It was one of those experiences where you promised yourself you would go back. Soon.

FIRE Restaurant and Lounge
Mansion House, Dawson Street, Dublin 2, Dawson Street, Dublin

Really good service, from the moment we stepped foot onto the premises. We were invited to have a casual drink before being seated, while our coats were taken care of. Once seated we could see that restaurant was really tastefully decorated leading to a very nice atmosphere. The menu, although not vast, had something for everyone’s taste. It was all simple food, done nicely, and very tasty. We were a table of 8 and were well looked after. I'll definitely be putting it on my list of restaurants to go back to.

Wild Spice Indian Restaurant & Take-Away
Lower Esmonde Street, Gorey, Wexford

Had a very pleasant take-away from Wild Spice last night. This is about my third visit, and although I've not dined on premesis you can tell the atmosphere and service is good, once you step in. Great variety menu and anything I've ever had has been really tasty and of a very high quality. As with a lot of Indian restaurants the price rises due to adding rice and breads. Recommended.

Grasshopper Inn
Main Street, Clonee, Meath

We stopped here on the way home recently. We were welcomed by an open fire, nicely arranged dining tables (very comfortable) and a very friendly waitress, but all within a pub atmosphere. Fairly standard menu with your typical pub grub, Nice alternative was a hot stone method of ordering/cooking your steak.. and at reasonable prices too. There were early bird specials to choose from also. We stuck to some homemade burgers with homemade fries (delicious), and spagetti with garlic bread. All great. Couldn't fault anything. Look forward to returning!

Boojum
Millennium Walkway, Dublin 1, City Centre North, Italian Quarter, Dublin

Boojum must be the best value in town. It's a small place with big heart, nice staff and a very friendly atmosphere. You could tell that a lot of the clientelle were regulars. The menu is simple. Choose a food type (Burrito, Taco ...etc.). Choose your filling (Chicken, Beef ...etc.). Lastly add your sauces and other condiments. Generous sizes and all made up in front of you. We had the Burritos. We added 1 bottle of beer each, and the whole dining experience for two was a mere €14. The shared tables are not to everyones liking, but once you know what to expect, it works fine!

Thai Spice
3A Talbot Place, Dublin 1 , City Centre North, Dublin

We discovered this little gem on our way to a gig in the O2. After reading the reviews here we thought it perfect for what we were looking for. We were not disappointed... what a little gem! It's a small restaurant with good waiting staff who were efficient and friendly. The atmosphere was very relaxed. The menu was varied and there are some great dinner for 2 meal deals. Could not fault the food in any way. Very tasty. This is not a criticism, but be prepared for a very casual experience ...on the night we were there, in order to accomodate in-coming reservations + drop ins, many tables had to be re-seated/moved. Funny enough, it all added to the ambience and nobody seemed to mind. In fact it added to the laugh. We are definitely going to go back.

Taj Tandoori Indian Restaurant
Main Street, Dunboyne, Meath

We booked Taj in Dunboyne for a New Year's Eve dinner for 8 adults and their respective children! The Taj manager VJ was really helpful in organizing the kids meals as well as a fantastic spread of Indian food. He even upgraded our wine choice from the fixed menu at no extra charge! We arrived at 6PM and were well looked after until we exited at 9PM... all very satisfied indeed. So, what about the food: Everyone loved the mixed grill sizzling starter! Paul's special nutty sauce was also a crowd pleaser. The Chilli Masala had a nice hint of lemon and the Peshwari Naan is the best anywhere. If you ever get a chance to dine here - do. Highly recommended.

Millstone, A Dublin Restaurant
39 Dame Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

I have been reading the reviews for The Millstone a few months now and was delighted to get a chance to try it out last night. We booked a table for 11 people. Upon arrival the welcome was a bit cold shoulder, with a gruff "You're upstairs" remark. We made our own way up and got seated. Not a vast menu, but nice, and plenty of variety. Several waiters attended to us and with the exception of one, they were all completely un-interested in being friendly or making an effort to be pleasant. However they were not rude. The Food. Couldn't fault it. Very nice. Very tasty. Cooked just the way we asked. One thing we found strange was the fact that the menu did not make it easy to understand that the mains in fact did not come with any accompanying sides. I look back and wonder why the waiter taking the order didn't simply point that out and give us a chance to order sides. In the end the portions were big and sides may have been too much anyway. Some of us ordered a selection of ice creams. Out of 3, only 1 actually got the flavours he ordered. However, was delicious! Full house on a Wednesday night. Good atmosphere and buzz. Worked out at €53 per head (after 10% tip) and that included 3 starters, 11 mains, 1 side, 5 desserts, coffees and about 1 bottle wine per person. So, overall I recommend The Millstone for the food. Go, but be prepared for lackluster attention. I will return, but wouldn’t be beating a path to get there.

ely bar & brasserie
CHQ Building, Georges Dock, Dublin 1, City Centre, IFSC, Dublin

How to sum our experience up? ...well, we never really felt welcome, and we had to try get attention for service several times. We just couldn't warm to the place at all. The food was decent though. Tasty chicken dish for my wife and a good steak for me, done the way I like. Food was hot and well presented. The over all pretentiousness of the place would stop me going back, even though the food was good. Pity.

Baan Thai (Leopardstown)
Central Park, Block P, Dublin 18, Leopardstown, Dublin

My experience in Baan Thai last week was one of those that makes you talk about it with a number of people afterwards, reminiscing on the taste, choice and experience. Simply put: nice place, good lunch time value menu, with a nice spread of choices. Generous portions and seriously tasty! Restaurant was busy and Service was efficient. I am looking forward to going back.

The Counter Dundrum
Pembroke District, (adjacent to the Mill Pond at Town Square), Dundrum, Dublin

Had heard good things about this Build-Your-Own-Burger place and I was drooling when I checked out their menu on-line. Finally got there last week and I brought about 7 people with me. Team event. Good service off the mark. Friendly staff... to the point that you could have a laugh with them. The concept of a fill out your own order from multiple choice led to good conversations about what everyone was going to have. Prices seemed to be fair. Decent selection of bottled beers. Tables over-all are a little too close to each other for "my" liking. It's not conducive to sitting around longer than what your meal takes you. But having said that, it's not designed that way, and is not their intention as far as I can tell. Burgers arrived and sides arrived. Verdict? Satisfying meal, great choice of toppings and additions, but the burgers themselves where just ok. If you want something different, casual, with good service and reasonably priced I'd say definitely check them out. Would I go again.. maybe one more time to see if I can get the wow factor by choosing another combination of additions/toppings.

The Leopardstown Inn
Brewery Road, Stillorgan, Dublin

This has to be one of the best places for a generous, hearty and delicious lunch (in huge dinner sizes). There's very little you can fault the Leopardstown Inn with. Well organized crew. Piping hot food. Best Lasagne in the country. fabulous veg, garlic potatoes to die for. What would I criticise? Very little.. maybe the decor is a little odd. It's a mish-mash of various themes that doesn't really gel, but it's a high standard of decor and cleanliness so I can live with it. When you visit.. bring your appetite.

Fillies Bar & Restaurant
Leopardstown Racecourse, Leopardstown, Dublin

I have to say that the food in Fillies is always very good. I like my food to be nice and hot and I am never disappointed. I've only ever gone for lunch, and the menu has great variety! The portions are decent and I come away satisfied. I had the Thai Green Curry this day and you can ask for it to be spicy to your taste. The service is always good. When you see the same staff working there long term then you know they must be doing something right. The only fault (if you want to find fault) is that there's not much atmosphere. It usually feels a little cold, although the decor is ok. I tend to visit about 3 or 4 times per year.

profile_review

The Stillorgan Orchard
1 The Hill, Stillorgan, Stillorgan, Dublin

This is a Restaurant I would describe as an "Old Reliable". The menu has a decent choice, with enough variety to satisfy all. The food is always predictable, and tasty. I went for a favourite.. the Chicken Rio Sandwich. Nice decor, airy and spacious. Plenty of tables to choose from. Fast and efficient service. What do I not like? The service is usually pleasant, but they can have off-days (mildly albeit). However I'd say they're improving this year. From time to time the portion sizes can vary a little. Good for the waistline, but a little disappointing when you're very hungry. All in all, I'd say drop in and eat, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Cactus Jacks (Middle Abbey St)
Millennium Walkway, Middle Abbey Street, City Centre North, Italian Quarter, Dublin

Great midweek visit! I have eaten here a few times and always enjoyed it ...but I reckon they're going the extra distance now 'cos I'll certainly be going back and recommending to friends to go visit. 6 of us arrived about 20 minutes late at 7:20 and our table was ready. Downstairs was full. The early bird menu was at each place setting along with the a la carte. Early bird finishes at 7:00, but that was no problem we could certainly go for that menu. For *under* €17 you got choice of multiple starters (some were as big as mains!), lots of mains to pick from and I think a choice of about 3 desserts ...and wait for it ...a generously poured glass of wine. It doesn't get better than that methinks. The food? Excellent. I couldn't finish my mains. Definitely go check it out ...I cannot imagine you'll be disappointed.

De Brúns
Ashleigh Centre, Main Street, Castleknock, Dublin

I have mixed opinions on Brasserie 15. We went there as a large group recently. The atmosphere was good, and the tables nicely spaced out. Nice simple decor with good quality table settings. Simple (and a little limited) in menu choices. There was just no warming to either of the two girls who served us. We did have to ask a few times for items (like the next bottle of wine that we had already asked for or bread). Manageress on duty was good. The young waiter was very friendly. Food was tasty. Could have been hotter. Steak was cooked exactly as requested all around. When you pay separately for starters, main, sides, coffee, dessert and drinks.. it really did add up and overall I would have to say it was not worth the price paid. Would I go back? I might, but would stick to less courses.

Saba
26-28 Clarendon Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

My wife surprised me by booking Saba, and so I had no expectations. It was a Sunday and 4 of us were seated on time in nice surroundings. Great menu and yes it takes a while to digest it. Staff were good... Manager was attentive and good craic. Food was really tasty all round. We were asked to move to the bar after we finished up (we knew in advance there were sittings). Good seats at bar and enjoyed some cocktails. Definitely go back.
