I go to Kathmandu quite often, most recently on 30 July. If you want a quiet dinner with a chance to talk, the atmosphere is fine. Not a place to dine in a hurry as service can be slow. But the food is always excellent and the service friendly and amenable. You want extra pappadoms? No problem, no charge. prices are reasonable for Dalkey which tends to the expensive side.

Viisited again in Dalkey on 7 August. It's over the newer DeVille's restaurant on Castle Street right in the centre. Very friendly service, great food, excellent value. Atmosphere a little quiet but not so quiet as last time. Great place for a family or office dinner in the second room.

Two for a late dinner. A little quiet on this exceptionally balmy April night in Dalkey apart from a large family gathering but that was made up by the exceptional helpfulness and friendliness of the manager and waiter, obviously willing and eager to improve. Food as before was good to very good and great value. I would pick out a superb Mo Mo starter of lamb steamed dumpling with sauce. But a good prawn starter too. Kathmandu Platter very good, so was Balti Prawn dish. Very decent house wines at €18.

Hop House / Kimchi
160 Parnell Street, Dublin 1, City Centre North, Dublin

Been there several times now. Really good Korean food, their take on Japanese food maybe less so but still good. Enjoyed especially the Kimchi pancake, the prawn tempura and the marinated beef Bulgogi any style. The HopHead ia very lively Irish-style Korean-run bar connected to restaurant, demonstrating that the Koreans are the Irish of Asia ! Beer a good choice with meal. Korean rice wines well worth exploring, especially drunk hot in cold weather. Service can be slow but staff are engaging. Strongly recommended .

Pho Viet Vietnamese Restaurant
162 Parnell Street, Dublin 1, City Centre North, Dublin

I have been in Vietnam several times and love the food so very happy to find this authentic non-fusion Vietnamese retaurant in Dublin. A limited menu, always a good sign. Everything done excelllently. I have been there several times in the last month or so sometimes on my own, sometimes accompanied. On 4 December, I was alone for a pre-theatre dinner. Suggested they advertise a pre-cinema or pre-theatre early bird menu as they are so close to the Gate Theatre and to cinemas. My favourite is the spicy Hue Soup burt all dishes excellent. Staff very accommodating and will take menu revisions within reason. Ambience/decoration simple, modest. Wine is rather expensive at €5.50 per glass but you can byow, corkage €5. Will certainly be back again.

Visited on 27 and 29 November, with vegetarian family member on 27 and with two friends on 29. Maitre d'H was immediately ready with vegetarian suggestions. Food is high quality, fresh, well cooked, spicy according to taste. Christmas lunch was good value at c. €25. Strongly recommend that menu's lamb stirfry starter, mixed sizzler dish of prawn, chicken, lamb sausage with Madras curry sauce on the side, kofi or other ice cream. Cold 60cl bottles of Cobra beer or iced water refreshing accompaniment to spicier dishes. Reasonable wine list available. Ambience/decoration is modest Nepalese, bright and smart. Service can be slow, even very slow. On a busy Friday night, had to ask three times for the bill. Lucky no one was in a hurry. Check that if heading for cinema or theatre: IFI and Olympia are very close by. Will definitely return.
