New to Menupages, We are not new to Trax. A converted railway store house, the Stone walls ooze character, it is warm and welcoming. A trait also exhibited by the staff. Our last visit was to celebrate a milestone birthday, so we started with two glasses of procecco. These were the first of three well priced and well chosen wines from a well appointed wine list. The second, a half bottle of French white, was the most expensive but worth the extra. The red which we had with our Mains of steak for herself and lamb for me was a tip from our waiter and was a perfect selection. The food, as always, was excellent. I'd recommend the chicken wings but you cant really go wrong. try the fresh fruit and sorbet for a light and tasty dessert. A great night out and a real culinary treat.

The hotel is in a fantastic location and is a fantastic old building so atmosphere scores high But the food is only average and while all the staff were pleasant and obliging service was slow. But as a base to explore the city the hotel represents great value. Sign up for a deal but dont expect your included meal to set the world on fire.

Russos
18 Dame Street,, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Only one man managed to be perfect. Russos didn't. But a business shows its character with how it deals with a complaint. Our server handled my gripe excellently. So much so that I wont bore you with the details as it didnt spoil an excellent evening. The food was without fault, fresh and perfectly prepared. Im not sure about the choice of some of the cheeses in the meat platter but they were excellent in themselves. My wifes meatballs were noteworthy. Our main courses and wine were fantastic. Going we were sceptical, close to Temple Bar, and in an area that is a bit of a tourist trap, we were wrong. Russos is an excellent choice and we will be back. With or without a menupages voucher.

Elephant & Castle
18/19 Temple Bar, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Temple bar prices mean a star lost on value. But the Elephant has become famous for its chicken wings and rightly so. They are great. This time I had a Coopers sparkling ale with them and it was a perfect match. The staff are friendly and service is prompt. As I have never had anything else here this is a bit of a shallow review. But when in rome.........and in this parish the centurions eat chicken wings.

Zest Cafe
Unit 6/7, Clane Shopping Centre, Clane, Kildare

Despite promising ourselves that we will go to Zest for dinner some night we again headed there for breakfast. And what a breakfast. As good as I have tasted. Fresh tasty with no grease, its a full Irish with little guilt. My wife had poached eggs on a bagel and they were perfect. The orange juice was lovely and the service prompt and friendly. The only reason its not five stars is the fact we havent been more adventurous. Maybe when we get over for dinner. Which again this morning we promised ourselves we would.

Dobbins Restaurant
15 Stephen Lane, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

A real Dublin institute. The smokies alone are worth the visit. But a word of warning, everyone knows how good they are and they sometimes run out. Sunday lunch is great value. Its a place that feels like a treat. It is.

Canal Walk Cafe
Kerdiffstown Road, Sallins, Kildare

This is a place you just need to go to. No real point in detailing what we ate, the menu was changing, and choice is limited. This is a different. Like eating at your grannys. If granny is an award winning chef. The chef in fact is a personable social guy who spoke with us at our table. The food was exciting and adventurous. Service was homely and attentive but not stuffy. Standards are kept by offering a small innovative menu using the best ingredients. The wine is chosen by someone with a real feel for matching the ingredient to the vine. Dont be put off by the cafe look of downstairs, the dining room is warm and stylish. We loved it. Alot. And the vaue for money will have us back soon.

Pichet
14/15 Trinity Street, Dublin , City Centre South, Dublin

An excellent lunch which represented exceptional value for money. The standout dish was my wifes risotto but we are still talking about the broccoli which had us fighting for the last piece of a vegetable I normally leave. A well chosen and reasonably priced wine list complimented the exciting menu. Service was prompt and friendly without feeling rushed or intrusive. We will be back soon.
