Fantastic food served in a family friendly environment. Prices are inexpensive but this is not reflected in the food which is the of the highest standard. Portions are generous also to say the least.

Bailey Bar @ Trim Castle Hotel
Castle St, Trim, Meath

This is one place I wont be revisiting. I've never felt so unwelcome in a restaurant- ever. I queued here and asked for their special of the day - which I was told would be another 5 minutes.... when I explained that I didnt mind waiting I was asked "would you not have something else as we are very busy?". If it had not been for the fact that my colleague had already got his lunch I would have left but I explained that I would rather wait. 25 minutes later I still had not received my food despite having paid for it- and having reminded several waitresses. I had no other option but insist on a refund and leave without having eaten anything. You wouldn't get service like this in a fast food restaurant! Absolutely despicable and I'll not be returning.

Wicklow Heather
Laragh, Glendalough, Wicklow

My wife and 2 young children were in Glendalough for the day and stopped in here for Sunday lunch. The place is very clean, staff are very friendly and helpful and the food is just perfect. Such an easy place to feel relaxed the moment you walk through the door. I've eaten here a few times and have never been disappointed. I had the 12 hour confit of lamb with winter vegetables and rosemary jus; It was easily the nicest Sunday lunch I've had in a long time- everything was perfect. My wife had a rib eye steak which was cooked perfectly medium-well as she asked and the boys had lasagne which was equally delicious. Desserts were equally impressive. The wicklow Heather simply serves excellent food at reasonable prices and if I could give it 10 stars then it still wouldn't be enough! Fantastic!

Pimientos Restaurant
10 Trimgate Street, Navan, Navan, Meath

Ah pimientos! The best place in Navan for breakfast and lunch- guaranteed. The food is very reasonably priced and yet delicious. The staff are very friendly and very welcoming of families with small children. I've eaten here more times than I can possibly remember and never had a bad experience. Its a busy little spot and its not difficult to understand why once you've tried it. Try it and you'll not be disappointed.

El Toro Loco
c/o The Courtyard, Johnstown, Navan, Meath

I wasn't going to post this review as I'm not sure if its fair to judge somewhere on a take away dish but then again I'm a paying customer so my review should be posted. I ordered burritos and chicken wings here and everything was just ok. The sauce which was meant to be included was left out and I got extremely mild chicken wings after asking for the extremely hot ones. I did get a free can of coke which was a plus but I'm not rushing back to be honest.

Brabazon Restaurant @ Tankardstown House
Tankardstown House, Rathkenny, Slane, Slane, Meath

My wife booked this place as a surprise for my birthday and I certainly was not disappointed. The menu was varies to suit everyone and I had the beef carpaccio for starter which was melt in the mouth tender with subtle flavours to compliment the beautiful beef. For mains I had lamb which was cooked to perfection with creamy potatoes and it was just divine. I then shared a chocolate fondant with my wife and she says it was gorgeous as I daren't disturb her while she has chocolate on a plate. The food was exquisite but I have to say the highlight and the thing I will remember most was the service. The waitresses were extremely helpful and the manager (who I believe was new) was an example of how a manager should make guests feel welcome in a restaurant. I will definitely be back. Well done everyone at Tankardstown house.

Caffrey's of Batterstown
Batterstown, Dunboyne, Meath

I wouldn't normally submit a review for breakfast but this is no ordinary breakfast at Caffreys. I stopped just before lunchtime in this gem of a place and was undecided what to order so ordered the safe bet- the breakfast. I have to say it was the best breakfast I have ever had. Extra touches like fried potatoes, softly fried eggs, perfectly grilled mushrooms made it extra special. The service was second to none and I'll definitely be back. Fantastic. Great. Brilliant.

Fontana Italian Restaurant
Main Street, Dunshaughlin, Meath

I had lunch here ad I was a little underwhelmed considering the prices being charged. I had chicken salad which was a cold, tasteless chicken breast on a plate of lettuce charged at €9.95. I counted 2 black olives and had anchovies (which I asked to be removed when ordering) on top. My wife had a chicken caesar wrap but there was no side salad or garnish with it. I really wanted to like the place because the decor is nice and the place is very well kept but the most important thing was the food. We pad over €25 for a very ordinary lunch and I felt I'd have been much better off having a sandwich from the local deli. Just not value for money- Sorry.

The Loft
26 Trimgate Street, Navan, Meath

I booked a table for 6- 4 adults and 2 children. As always the food was very good- a varied menu and food cooked to perfection. The one thing that was exceptional was our waitress who showed a genuine interest in welcoming the kids- which was a nice touch. The negative- sorry but its a big one- is that there was a 10% service charge which is a little out of date if you ask me- asking someone to pay €20 for the privilege of simply being served is a little 2007 so for that reason only I will not be returning in a hurry. There are lots of great restaurants in Navan which do not charge a service charge so its time The Loft followed suit! Its a pity because I'd be back a lot sooner otherwise.

Franzini's
Frenchs Lane, Trim, Meath

Can't say I enjoyed this place one bit. The service was hurried, the place was cold, everything I wanted with my steak was an extra €2.50 side order. I ordered a rare steak and when I complained that it was well done the waiter offered to 'heat it up' for me! Obviously a newcommer! Apart from this- the food itself was ok but I expect a little more than just ok when I'm paying premium prices which is what you'll pay in Franzinis. If I wanted ok food - I'd have stayed at home. If I had to say one nice thing about it- it would be that there's a fantastic Castle beside it for you to look at and wonder what you'd be enjoying to eat- if you'd went somewhere else.High price, bad service and cold atmosphere.

Java Juice
Haggard Street, Trim, Trim, Meath

Java Juice is a lovely, quaint little restaurant situated in Trim. Nicely laid out with tables outside for those enjoying a coffee al fresco. We went here for lunch with our 2 children and were delighted to see a comfy sofa in the corner which we used for a well deserved rest. The menu is excellent- you could be forgiven for thinking you may be in france, spain or italy with the menu being so varied. If you like salads then this is the place to go. The owner was very helpful and welcoming and although we sat for ages after having our lunch. we never felt like we outstayed our welcome. 10 minutes stroll from Trim Castle and you'll find it! Well worth a visit and you'll want to go back.

Copper & Spices Restaurant & Wine Bar
Ludlow Street, Navan, Meath

This is a little gem of a restaurant, hidden away on a quiet street in Navan town. A tastefully decorated restaurant helps create a truly oriental atmosphere. The menu is set for all tastes and ages- if you like spicy or mild or if you've got kids then there's something for everyone. I ordered Chicken Phall (hottest dish on the menu) and I was not disappointed, while my wife opted for the much milder chicken korma and she tells me it was delicious. Our 7 year old son had chicken biryani and ate a whole portion to our surprise!! The staff are very friendly, the wine list is varying in price and region and overall I cannot fint a fault with this restaurant. Value for money? Definitely. I'll be back.
