The Malt House restaurant
Old Malt Mall, High Street, Galway City, Galway
Reviewed 05th August 2008 ( visited 28th July 2008 )Excellent home made, fresh Irish food. I was here on a Monday night and it was packed with a great atmosphere. We were entertaining a foreign guest and this restaurant was a fine example of good Irish food. All the basics put together really well. The service was prompt and efficient, all round it was a great night.
Inchydoney Island Lodge and Spa restaurant
Main Street, Clonakilty, Cork
Reviewed 04th October 2013 ( visited 03rd September 2013 )Excellent food in Dunes bar. I had a plate of scallops (always a worry in case you get a measly portion of 4!) However I got 8 HUGE scallops which had been placed back in their shells and onto a slate so the presentation was absolutely fabulous. My partner had surf and turf which was excellent too. The dining room was excellent too- for the seafood at Inchydoney was the biggest treat- I woud highly recommend it.
Morels Bistro Bar Grill
17-18 Patrick St, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin
I had not eaten here since the restaurant was reopened with a new name. It is a lovely dining room- a great thing for Dun Laoghaire which is really feeling the recession. We had lunch and we were delighted to see it so full on a weekday. The waiter informed us they only recently started opening during the week for lunch and you could tell because the service was very very slack. We were at a table that was tucked away under the stairs and they just kept forgetting about us. It was a pity because the food was divine. The highlight was the lobster on the lobster lunch menu- it was delicious. The home made deserts were lovely and everything was presented very well. We will return for the lovely atmosphere and food but hope the service has picked up.
The Roundwood Inn
Roundwood, Roundwood, Wicklow
Fully agree with the review below. We visited here choosing it over it's busier rival because of the Georgina Campbell award it got this year. Not sure how it got it- food was nothing special. We both had chicken and it was very dry too. The atmosphere wasn't great and the lady behind the bar was eyeing us up as we ate while she polished off several glasses of wine which we didn't feel was particularly professional! We ate at the bar because every time a table became available the staff ran over to it and put a reserved sign on it which we found a little strange for a pub. Will be heading across the road next time!
Mrs. Robinson's Kitchen
Church Rd, Greystones, Greystones, Wicklow
Great restaurant with a scrumptious early evening menu. Great selection of craft beers. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Would recommend all that we had- french onion soup, pate, sliders and fish n chips- great wholesome food and good value. Will return!
1 Victoria House, Haddington Road, Dublin 4, Ballsbridge, Dublin
Dined here as a party of 10 for lunch for a special occasion after much research of restaurants in the South City area. We were looking for somewhere that was not formal and "stiff" but that still did good food and would make an occasion of the meal. Asador delivered on all fronts. From booking the staff were efficient and helpful. They read our guests exactly and tended to their every need. The food was great- particularly the steaks. Will be returning.
Restaurant @ Renvyle House Hotel
Renvyle, Connemara, Galway
The food at Renvyle house is worth the drive to this far corner of Connemara (which is also beautiful). The staff were so efficient when we visited, and also very friendly- they got the balance just right and were not intrusive. We ate here twice during our honeymoon- the steaks were the best we had during a 3 week trip around Ireland. Perfectly cooked fillets with excellent sauces. Beautiful scallops too that I see others have commented on. 5 star food in a relaxed and informal environment- we'll be back!
The Promenade, Lahinch, Clare
The food is great here in O'Looneys which has been renovated dramatically so that it has a modern interior and made full use of the beautiful sea views. The food is high quality pub food. The specials often include locally caught seafood- I had a crab pasta here which gave the rest of my party serious food envy!

3a The Crescent Monkstown, South Co. Dublin, Monkstown, Dublin
A group of 10 of us ate at FXBs Monkstown on New Years eve and I can't say enough about the fantastic service, value and food we received. I rang around several South Dublin restaurants that were charging extortionate prices for set menus for the night that was in it. FXBs on the other hand had a reasonable 3 course menu, including tea and coffee for €30. And it certainly wasn't a "value menu" like you often see, everyone had beautiful high quality food like prawn pil pil- 7 prawns! Not your usual 4, and perfectly cooked sirlion steaks, not to mention the beautiful deserts. The staff were so efficient and professional, from the point of booking. They remembered small details like putting our wine away to cool until we wanted it, helping us into our coats and numbering the table to save the usual faff trying to find who owns what food when it arrives to a large table. Thank you FXBs for such a brilliant evening with a group of friends who really value spending time together now that many of us are living away from home.
The Happy Pear
Church Road, Greystones, Greystones, Wicklow
If I could live in the happy pear so I could eat every meal here I would! Love this place, consistently good vegetarian food from Day 1. The hot chocolate is like chocolate soup, amazing! The ethical ethos and funky atmosphere/decor are great too- I will continue to return.
Cactus Jacks (Middle Abbey St)
Millennium Walkway, Middle Abbey Street, City Centre North, Italian Quarter, Dublin
Enjoyed using my menu points here, great food and lively atmosphere. Early bird is really great value, especially with glass of wine included. Highlights were fajitas and chicken caesar salad on early bird menu, will be back for more! Restaurant was short staffed and supervisor went out of his way to make sure we were OK despite having to wait to be served- fire those staff that let you down, as everything else about the restaurant was fab!!
The Fern House Cafe at Avoca Kilmacanogue
Avoca, Kilmacanogue, Wicklow
The Fern is a great addition to Avoca, consistently good food as always. The surroundings are beautiful and the decor perfect- a beautiful informal dining room with beautiful views of the garden. great for lunch- looking forward to a trip in the evening when I'd say it's even more spectacular.
Radisson Blu, St Helen's Hotel, Stillorgan Road, Stillorgan, Dublin
For the ridiculous amount of money I paid at Talavera I was very disappointed. I was not surprised they were very quiet (only 4 tables at 8.30pm) on a Saturday night, because the food was OK to be kind- and OK is not good enough at 5 star prices. My boyfriend had veal which was overcooked and tough- something I've never experienced berfore with veal! I had smoked chicken and squash risotto which had about 3 micoscopic pieces of squash and was covered in way too much chicken, which overpowered the dish. The atmosphere was horrible, like an airport corridor and it was too cold. The staff set up for breakfast during our meal too which I hate, it is expected in a 3 star hotel where the staff are dying to get out the door but I didn't expect this in the Raddisson. To top it off the bill didn't exactly help matters- close to €150 for two disappointing meals and a bottle of wine, I will not be returning.
23 Quay Street, Galway City, Galway
Had a pleasant evening here- warm and cosy on a horrible evening. Food was grand- duck a bit dry and fajita's a little overcooked, but overall good value on the early bird menu. Nothing to rave about but not a disappointment either. Service average too
Dungeon Bar & Grill
Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel, Killiney, Dublin
Had a very disappointing meal here just after Christmas. The food was absolutely woeful- especially the vegetarian pasta dish which consisted of soggy pasta drenched in olive oil and half cooked peppers. There were bottles of wine on the tables available for purchace- which I thought was pretty cheeky, I'm quite happy to choose from the list thanks! The staff forgot our dessert and were generally forgetful with sides, drinks etc. and we recieved no apologies from the manager. Won't be returning in a hurry!
Fallon and Byrne
11-17 Exchequer Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
I really enjoyed an evening here. The menu is great for all tastes, I like when dishes are available in main or starter size. I joined a group when they were just finishing starters and I was amazed at how efficient the staff were at seating me and making sure I got to order and eat when the mains arrived. They were so attentive with drinks and food, I was very impressed. The food was all top quality, there are some fantastic salads on the menu looking forwad to returning to try more!
Chez Max (Palace Street)
1 Palace Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
A fantastic place to spend a Sunday- great brunch available and the french onion soup is the real deal- have onbly tasted the likes in Paris. Beautiful little restaurant with a great atmosphere
5/6 Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork City, Cork
Really enjoyed a Saturday night here. Great atmosphere, excellent staff who were very very efficient and friendly, especially the hostess who greeted and seated us with great efficiency. The food was beautiful, and the menu had such a great choice, it would suit for a big meal or small snack. Thumbs up all round! Would recommend Bellini's!!
Sinergie Restaurant @ The Clarion
Lapps Quay, Cork City, Cork
Put off by other reviews, I didn't want to eat here but when we arrived too late to go anywhere else decided to give it a try. It was half 9 when we sat down and even though last orders were not until ten, we were made very aware that we were keeping the staff late. We were asked to hurry and billed at the end. The one starter we had was very poor- greasy fishcakes. The food mains were fine, a tasty pasta dish and risotto. Overall however, atmosphere was very dull, no music and decor unpleasant. Will not be returning here.
Blue Door Restaurant
Church View, Adare, Limerick
Enjoyed a great meal here on a Sunday evening. Very efficient staff and the quality of the food was excellent. From starters to dessert all the food was really good and perfectly cooked- can't fault this restaurant!
Alexis Bar And Grill
17 / 18 Patrick Street, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin
Couldn't wait to go here and see what all the fuss is about and I wasn't disappointed! Had a fantastic meal from start to finish. All 5 of us had excellent starters, mains and desserts, great wine and friendly staff. Highly recommend the risotto, and the rasberry chocolate pot for dessert. A great evening from start to finish, I'll definitely return

Basilico Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria
Oranmore, Main Street, Coach House Hotel, Oranmore, Galway
Was amazed by previous reviews- had a fantastic experience here on a Thursday evening. The place was packed (no wonder, in my opinion) so we had to wait for a table but was well worth it. Had soups, shared risotto and a main. The mushroom and truffle risotto was especially good. The chestnut and chorizo soup was also lovely- I had never heard of such a soup but it was great. Apart from one of the soups being too peppery I couldn't fault the meal. The wine selection was fantastic and the Italian waiters were gracious hosts without going over board. I will definetly be returning here.
KC Blakes Brasserie
Quay Street, Galway City, Galway
Have to return to maintain my views that I have only experienced great food, great quality and excellent value here on several occasions now- the early bird with a glass of wine included is fantastic value. The staff are exceptionally friendly, efficient and friendly and I can't praise KCs brasserie highly enough.
Paddy Burkes (The Oyster Inn)
Clarenbridge, Clarenbridge, Galway
Lovely Oysters!! Very nice atmosphere in main bar but was disappointed to be seated in a dull room out the back with only us (a couple) and a large party. You won't leave here hungry!! Huge portions of food, which is OK quality traditional - nothing fancy! Duck was a little dry only complaint. Great place for a good feed.
The Old School House Restaurant
Clarenbridge, Clarenbridge, Galway
Excellent top class restaurant could not fault a thing. Early bird is fantastic value, staff were so kind, totally on the ball and friendly without going overboard. Will definitely be returning. Lovely atmosphere whether it is empty (when we arrived) of full (when we left)
No 1 Fade Street, Off Georges's Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
I love this place, great staff, atmosphere and food- have never been disappointed. Food and wine is always top class, and I love the spongebob poster in the toilet- just shows how laid back the place is despite being so good!
Farm Restaurant (Dawson Street)
3 Dawson Street, Dublin 2, Dawson Street, Dublin
I really want to love this place but I just can't - I have gone three times and every time I leave thinking "That was fine, just fine, not amazing or poor" The food never has the edge you want when eating out, I had bangers and mash- 3 small over done sausages on a massive plate of plain mashed potato. My burger was fine too- small in size nothing to rave about. Good staff, decor and potential, I hope it just improves slightly.
1 St Andrews Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
I seem to be disagreeing with others here but I thought the prices here were awful! A mixed plate of cheese and parma ham (3 small slices of each, no bread included that was an extra €2.85) cost over €10, wine was overpriced and an avocado salad cost €9. Really did think everything was very expensive compared to other tapas eateries in the city. Food was good quality but the price would turn me away.
The Port House
64a South William Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
The Port house has a very funky atmosphere, more so than it's sister in Temple bar. Really enjoy the surroundings and wines are really great. Food is also very nice, however it can add up and I wouldn't really think this is a cheap night out if you want a good feed. Overall a good spot just be prepared to wait if they are busy
Jewel in the Crown (South William Street)
5 South William Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
I expecting more from Jewel in the crown on account of their good name and more than one outlet. Service was OK but we were overcharged which took some time to rectify. Food was moderate- very disappointed with chicken pasanda, which was a boring chicken dish in a tastless rich creamy sauce, unlike the description. Went on a week night and they had very few tables in and no atmosphere, only good thing was the price- very reasonable.
6-7 Jervis Street, Millennium Walkway, Dublin 1, City Centre, Italian Quarter, Dublin
A great new place- very busy though as they've had a number of great reviews lately, so make a reservation. Very cosmopolitan atmosphere, lovely cocktails. Food was moderate, typical Asian food served in a modern way. Stay away from beef dish cooked on front of you with boiling water- fab idea and lovely meat but so full of mint it was over powering not enjoyable at all. Mussels were a hit however- overall a success!
21 Railway Road, South Co. Dublin, Dalkey, Dublin
I ate at Thai house with a group of friends, a little worried by previous reviews. I had been very pleased on several occasions before but thought it was a stall worth. Unfortunately I was disappointed this time. The early bird menu is great value and on previous occasions I had really enjoyed the food from it. This time all the starters and mains were only lukewarm, as the host it was a little embarrassing as people were too polite to send them back. The waitresses were not very busy and whisked plates away before everyone was finished. I also thought the portions of rice were very mean. Overall I was very disappointed, the waitresses are so beautifully turned out, the place is atmospheric and I know the food can be lovely - so it is a pity to have a bad experience.
Meeting House Square, Dublin 2 , City Centre, Temple Bar, Dublin
I ate here on a Sunday afternoon although it was between times 3/4pm, there was still a nice atmosphere and a few tables in. Anti pasta is fantastic, we shared speck risotto for mains. Food was very good even though it was a little salty, but this is to be expected with Italian food. Service was quite slack as not many tables were in, we found it difficult to find someone for extra bread, condiments etc. Overall it's very authentically Italian and I'd recommend it for an infomal meal
