I had heard a great deal about harte's from friends of mine and decided to pop in to see what all the fuss was about, and i have to say my friends and i were not dissapointed! upon arriving we found the place was packed to the rafters even which we were surprised at considering its just after the holiday season, we hadnt booked and were told that as soon as a table was free they would accomodate us and we could have a drink in the cosy bar, we waited 20mins but as soon as we sat we were looked after promptly and efficiently by the waiting staff, the food was fabulous, i had the duck spring roll for starter and the herb marinated chicken, both were excellent, one of our group had the kangaroo on the hot rock which was a special on the night, all the food was well presented and delicous and the service fab, we will back!

Myself and my partner were in dublin shopping and myself being a chef was very excited about eating in the '2010 gastro pub of the year', and although expectation were high, with them aside it was very dissapointing, it after 3 pm so it was very quiet, we had the little fella with us an upon entering we were told they had no options for children, grand, let that one go, my partner is vegetarian and not one vegetarian option on the menu, so my partner opted for a vegetarian ciabatta, and while came out was a lettuce and tomato ciabatta, when i said this to the manager, he said ' well what do you want on it' which is not how u handle a customer, they came back with a half decent version, and the manager said to us, 'well there was actually cheese on the first one but we made a re-vamped one for you.' and not one apology. i had the steak sandwich which was average and not to the standard of the awards bestowed, im sure the place is buzzing at night but thats probably all. i wont be back to find out. this now trendy spot should up its game and customer relations if its to survive past the honeymoon period

Springfield Hotel Season's Restaurant
Leixlip Road, Leixlip, Kildare

Ok we were here on a sunday for carvery, so it wouldnt be fair to judge the entire culinary scape on this alone, but as carvery's go, it was below par. very 90's.I know a carvery is a carvery, but a little imagination with the menu wouldnt go a astray, salmon with citrus butter, beef curry(powdered just add water kind), stuffing which was literally only breadcrumbs and dried herbs, stodgy tastless gravy, and the usually staple joints. i worked in hotel's for years, i know it doesnt require much effort to make proper roasties, so as soon as i saw the deep fried boiled potatoes being passed off as roasties, that summed it up for me, i was with a party and wasnt paying, so i suffered through it and said nothing, as i say, a carvery is a carvery, but there was no effort in here at all.

Vie de Chateaux
The Harbour, Naas, Kildare

Id been looking forward to visiting here for a while, after moving to kildare and hearing people say it was the mecca for cuisine in kildare, in fairness we rang late on a saturday afternoon, so i wasnt expecting a table, but they said they had one for us at 9. when we arrived the maitre'd comment saying 'oh your the one who rang late'. why make that comment? its as if he was making sure we knew they were doing us a favour by giving us a table at short notice. the board was full of lovely sounding specials, all to what we expected, prices were quite high, but as i said, to be expected, however, my starter of ham hock terrine with duck liver parfait was, to be frank, bland, flavourless, and incredibly small, it had a texture of processed luncheon roll, but tasted of nothing, and im a big fan of ham hock. my partner had the salmon starter, with an array of gravadlax, salmon rilette and others, it was again, bland, with the only thing standing out was the skill in the wafer thin sliced gravadlax. my partner had the halloumi cheese main course, which was lovely, and had good flavour. i had the pork belly/scallop special, scallop and belly cooked well, all good here. the dessert was a pear tatin, my favourite, but it was not a tart tatin, it was a dome of soft mushy pear incased in grainy sugary syrup, and a short biscuit underneath, it tasted awfull, tasted of grainy sugar mixed with some sort of sponge, it was quite bizarre, the gingerbread ice cream with it was no better, we couldnt eat it so the maitre'd was good enough to take it off the bill. i expected more, esp for the price, though ive heard similar stories. i hear they're head chef has moved on and they are looking for a replacement, i know transitional periods can be hard on a restaurant,so i will put it down to this. i hope they bounce back.

Bad Ass Cafe
Crown Alley, Temple Bar, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin

Very poor if im honest, came here early in the evening with my partner, as everywhere else was jam packed, the place was empty bar on other table. bad ass has a super location and decor, but the menu was so bog standard and had next to nothing on it, starters only had the usual ceasar salad, greek salad, wings and soup on it, mains had nothing but burgers, an omelette, and a few sandwiches, not even a steak! (bar a steak sandwich but that doesnt really count) i ordered a mocha and it came out luke warm. i had the chicken sandwich and my partner had the veggie burger. the chicken on my sandwich was obviously cooked on a mirror grill that was not clean as it was covered in grease and black grit. my partners veggie burger was bizarre, a pattie of red coloured mush that was burnt on one side and not even seared on the other, and tasted like cardboard. the chips were the only ok thing and even they werent great. i was baffled at the poorness of the food, considering its location being in the tourist region. im not surprised it was empty, far too many decent establishments near by.

The Ballymore Inn
Main Street, Ballymore Eustace, Kildare

a much anticipated visit to the only michelin recommended pub in kildare, i found a mix of good and bad points, on arriving there was a bread basket with room temperature butter( a sign they use their heads, as smearing cold hard butter is a nightmare) and a lovely herb olive oil with caraway seeds, while the bread was bland and not fresh the oil was delicious,i had the pate to start an while it was good pate and chutney, it was served plopped on a bunch of undressed bruised leaves, and it failed to justify its 11.50 price, my friend had the chicken wings, which were dry and the spice and sauce were not good, both a strange curry type? i had the salmon which was well cooked yet very plain, the chips were like mcdonalds, 19 euro for salmon? the desserts were rustic and gorgeous. our waitress was attentive yet unobtrusive. the food here definetely top if a little unimpressive and the lunch prices have to be looked at as theres better value and just as good quality elsewhere

Annamars Restaurant
Station Road, Kildare town, , Kildare Town, Kildare

Visited Here on a Friday night with a birthday party was much looking forward to it as id heard alot about the quality of the food, as people who know fine french cuisine its more about quality rather than quantity, so i was expecting the smaller portions. we didnt opt for the set menu because there was only a 3 euro saving on a potential bill of 70 if opting for the set menu, since all the starters were the same price at 9euro, as were all the mains at 22euro. a certain few things annoyed me, it took 25 mins for our starter, and a further 30 mins for our main i ordered the venison and was not asked how i would like it cooked, it came out medium, i would have prefered rare, or at least been asked. this is very old school for 'the chef serves it how he thinks it should be cooked' we were asked would we like potatoes & veg but we werent told the were an additional extra on the bill. they were busy and the lone waitress was run off her feet. the co-owner was running around after her table of friends and not even looking to see were the waitress or custumers ok, since we waited so long and the waitress looked as if she was going to faint we were not ok, night off or not customers come first. we seen another table take ages. while the food was very good, very old school french, the price in this day and age was not, if your going to drop in make sure its for the early bird special, watch out for side charges. its not surprising theyre closed half the week, if they did better deals and modernised te menu they would be full all week as the food is so good.

Judge Roy Beans
Main Street, Newbridge, Kildare

Came here with the family for lunch, the food wasnt great at all, i ordered the battered cod, which was from the frozen variety, and tasted like fishy cardboard the batter was too thick it was like chewing dough and the chips werent great with my other half having ground white pepper put on hers (?) to be fair the chicken nuggets for kids were from real chicken breast not the processed kind, so fair play there, our waiter was nice but never came to check was our food ok. over all i think this place could do so much better and has so much potential to do great food as the bar and club do so well. i hope they improve

Greene's Restaurant
Main Street, Maynooth, Kildare

I came here with my partner on a saturday night, very busy which is always a good sign, it got off to a bad start though, i ordered the venison i then got told 'i hoped u wouldnt ask for that as theres none left'. id rather be told before i look at the menu what you dont have. then when i ordered the wine the waitress while very nice, said they also had none of that either, but the manager recommended another, where was the manager when these 2 mistakes happened before i even got a starter? my partner had the bruschetta starter which she said was nice, i had the quail starter which was totally overcooked and even though a quail, had not an ounce of meat on it,probably due to the over cooking. the main course duck and risotto were lovely, duck perfectly cooked, nice fresh mushrooms(not dried) in the risotto. when we enquired into the dessert menu i asked about the white chocolate cake which the said they didnt do anymore, change the menu? lovely waiting staff but where was the manager?
