Probys Bistro restaurant
Proby's Quay Crosses Garden, Cork City, Cork
Reviewed 15th June 2008 ( visited 11th June 2008 )I was really impressed with this restaurant. The food was excellent, I had swordfish and it was lovely and my partner had the t-bone steak which was delicious. The baileys cheesecake was only ok, seemed to have been defrosted but the champagne sorbet was so nice. It was very reasonable, the waiter was really friendly and the food was gorgeous. I´ll definitely go back.
Kudos (Limerick) restaurant
Clarion Hotel Limerick, Limerick City, Limerick
Reviewed 02nd March 2008 ( visited 01st March 2008 )It was extremely busy when we arrived. The waitress wasn´t helpful at all and when we finally found a table, she took ages to take our orders, to bring the food and we were waiting for the bill longer than 3 quaters of an hour. Having said that, the food was excellent. We shared a really nice prawn and calamari tempura, followed by yakisoba and "the crying tiger" which were gorgeous. The coconut tart and ice cream were just ok.I´ll definitely go back for the food.
40 Paul Street, Cork City, Cork
I visited this place for lunch. I was dying to try it and I was quite disappointed. We had the "hot stuff"beef burger and the halloumi burger. They were nice but if you compare it with similar restaurants, the portions were smaller, except for the bun... Service was a bit slow as there was only one waitress for the whole restaurant and the tables are small and quite close to each other. On the plus side, the burgers are cheaper than other places.
El Vino @ The Elysian
The Elysian Tower, Eglinton Street, Cork City, Cork
Went there with a group of friends. There was a set menu but you could also choose from the dinner menu. Most of us went for the menu which was 19.95 for 2 courses. From the tapas menu, we tried the brie which was a big portion and delicious, the goats cheese bruschetta, which was tasty too, the patatas bravas were disappointing as some of them were as hard as a rock. We also tried the scallops and even though they were delicious, they were overpriced at nearly 12 euro for 3 scallops!!! From the menu, the best dish was the risotto. Service was a bit slow and cocktails took a long time to arrive. I was not that impressed and if you decide to go for the tapas it can be an expensive night.
3 Washington Street, Cork City, Cork
Went there after work on a Friday for a glass of wine. The wines are lovely, even though the selection is not great but the quality is fantastic. They do tapas now for a euro and we thought it was a great idea. We had one with manchego cheese, chorizo and membrillo and another one with aubergine pate, courgette and halloumi cheese. Delicious!!and a great complement to the glass of wine. We will go back to try the mezze plates! Staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is good. The only downfall for me is the high stools as I don´t find them particularly comfortable to sit back and relax.
The Bodega @ St. Peters Market
Cornmarket Street, Cork City, Cork
Went there for lunch and they had a good selection on the menu but we were very disappointed that they did not do any tapas for lunch as it was mentioned on the website. Two of us had the squid salad and it was nice but I thought it was a bit plain. The squid was not rubbery which was great but the flavour overall was a bit indistinct. Another one of us had the fish and chips and the portion was quite big and it was tasty. The place was rather busy but not very noisy and it´s a big open space which was good, however some of the tables are a bit on top of each other.
Annie's Bar & Restaurant
89 Sunday's Well Road, Cork City, Cork
Went there with a group of friends. Food was amazing!!The halloumi with poached pear was delicious and the parma ham with figs very nice too. As mains, both the swordfish and the steak were perfectly cooked. The swordfish was so moist and tasty. For dessert, some of us had the banoffee and that was just ok for me, it seemed like it had been in the fridge for a while. The only fault is that service was quite slow but the food in general was terrific; a bit on the expensive side but totally worth it!
Zaks Restaurant (Cork)
No 4 Marlboro Street, Cork City, Cork
Went there with the "2 for 1" voucher. It was amazing value and I was greatly surprised with the quality of the food. Both my friend and myself had the vegetarian option:an aubergine, tomato and mozzarella tower. It was delicious. Most of the people were going for the early bird option which looks very appealing as the portions looked big and a good price. I´ll go back to try it out.
4 Bridge Street, Cork City, Cork
It was my first time in this restaurant and we visited for lunch. They have a soup&sandwich offer and even though it seems great, the main dishes are too tempting to skip them. My friend had a butternut squash risotto that was delicious and I had a prawn and chickpea salad that was fabulous and a very original combination. The only thing is that the prawns were slightly overcooked and therefore a bit hard. They have "mini desserts" which is a fantastic idea and both the vanilla pannacotta and the brownie were very nice. They bring you bread at the start of the meal and the one with poppy and sunflowers seeds was so tasty. The waitress was very nice too.I would definitely go back even though it is a bit pricey.
La Boheme - Ballingcollig
3-4 Chapel Lane, (Under the Arch), Ballincollig, Cork
Went there for lunch. The have a deal for 8.95 with a good selection of dishes and the regular menu is also available. I had the warm asparagus salad and it was amazing! The grilled cheese complemented all the flavours really well. It was different but delicious. My partner got the spinach and ricotta canelloni and he was delighted with it. Pity we were too full for dessert because they looked yummy..I´ll definitely go back to try the evening menu. The only downfall is that the place lacks a bit of a warm feeling and the tables are a bit small.
26-28 Clarendon Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
This place was buzzing when we arrived so we had to wait a while as we didn´t have a reservation. It was worth it though! The food was amazing: the salmon sashimi was delicious and the tempura was nice too. I thought the starters were big in comparison to the mains. Enough to look at the dessert menu. The main courses were as nice. I had one of the wok dishes with prawns and it was delicious, quite hot though! My boyfriend had the noodles with duck and it was very nice too. We were not too excited about the desserts so we went for a sweet cocktail. We had the cheesecake, which was lovely, if anything, a bit strong for dessert and the toblerone which was nice too. Too nutty for my taste. I thought the cocktails were a bit pricey but it´s definitely worth it. I loved it!
Main Street, Ballincollig, Cork
I hadn´t been there in quite a while but we had ordered from the take away menu on several occasions. There was not a lot of people but because of that we were able to sit down in a more spacious and confortable spot which was great. The Rendang curry was very tasty and different as you can´t get it in many places. I had the prawn and scallop stir fry(without scallops as they ran out of them) and it was delicious. The only thing is that I thought it was a bit expensive considering that you have other prawn dishes on he menu at a much cheaper price. Banoffi was amazing. I would defintiely like to try other things here.
6/7 Carey's Lane, Cork City, Cork
Went in with a couple of friends for an early bird. The selection was ok even though there was no pizza on the early bird menu...My friend had the warm chicken salad from the menu and it was very unusual as it came in a tomato sauce which was overpowering. Too much sauce all together. Then the steak from the menu was good and a good size. We also had a portion of chicken wings which was a bit on the small side and then pizza, which was ok. Overall good value for money but what we had was nothing spectacular.
Dashi Nihonshoku Deli
11 Cook Street,, Cork City, Cork
This place has a great sushi!!!It´s the best I´ve tried it in Cork. The fish is so fresh and the rolls so tasty. the butterfish sashimi is amazing and the tuna nigiri is very nice. The spicy salmon futomaki is a bit too hot. I´ve never seen swordfish anywhere else and it is so nice. The only thing is that I didn´t find the seating upstairs very comfortable and sometimes the queue is too long for the space they have in the shop...It can be a bit expensive also if you pick exactly what you want to eat but the platters are good value.Overall I love this place!!
4/5 South Main St, Co City, Cork City, Cork
I went there for an early dinner. The place was very busy and we had to wait for our table. I had the yaki udon and the noodles were very dry and a bit burnt. My partner had the absolute wagamama menu which was very good value and it was much tastier than mine. I was very dissapointed this time. However, I would like to go back and try something different.
Hugo's Restaurant at Druids Glen Resort
Druids Glen Resort, Newtownmountkennedy, Wicklow
We had dinner there on a Friday night and it was really busy. The waitress was lovely and extremely helpful. The food was very nice but very expensive for the portions given. The fish was outstanding and the risotto was nice but nothing special. The onion rings were very greasy and the dessert (bread and butter pudding) even though it was nice, it had too muh bread for my taste. With a bottle of house wine it came out quite expensive.
Gourmet Burger Bistro
8 Bridge Street, Cork City, Cork
Went for lunch. The tables are very close together so you can´t avoid listening to other people´s conversation. I had the small halloumi salad and even though it was delicious and well presented, it was very expensive for what I got. At a price of 7.25, it was an very small portion. The burgers were nice but as well for lunch, a bit expensive. The best thing are the great variety of burgers.
2-5 Winthrop Lane, Winthrop Street, Cork, Cork City, Cork
Went there with a group of friends for a birthday celebrations. They had decorated the table with balloons and hats which was lovely. The portions were big. The food was good and the desserts were fantastic. The mars bar cheesecake was lovely and the baileys and maltesers cheesecake outstanding. They brought the birthday girl´s dessert with a candle on it and played "happy birthday" which was a nice touch. The service was slow though. Great buzz and value for money.
31 Popes Quay, Cork City, Cork
I was a bit disappointed with brunch. I had been here for dinner before and it had been good. On Sunday, service was slow and tea and coffee took a while to come. The eggs florentine were all right, a bit vinegary. The quality and quantity was good but I was expecting a bit more.
32 Washington Street, Cork City, Cork
Three of us went for lunch and the place was packed so service was a bit slow. We had to wait a bit but it was worth it! The halloumi salas was delicious and the cheese was cooked perfectly:thin and crispy. The bue cheese burger was nice and the falafel was reportedly very tasty. The portion of chips was big and the affogato (cofee with ice-cream) is a great idea. The pancakes were also nice. I love this place. The only bad thing is waiting to get a table.
42B MacCurtain Street, Cork City, Cork
Where to start. Their coffee is great and the smoothies are original and delicious. The girls are always listening for new suggestions and would accommodate your order to your liking. The porridge fills you up for the day and is so nice. And the caramel square is fantastic. I have to mention that the girls always have a smile waiting for you! they make you feel so welcome. Great place, great food and great people.
The Rising Tide (Glounthaune)
Glounthaune, Glounthaune, Cork
We organized a barbeque in the pub. The staff was brilliant and the food very tasty. A good selection of hot and cold food and plentyof it. I´ll definitely go back to try their menu.
Kudos Bar @ The Clarion
Lapps Quay, Cork City, Cork
A group of 5 went for lunch and it was very busy. All the tables were either reserved or occupied even though nobody occupied them while we were there, so we have to squeeze in a table for 4. The food was excellent but the service was slow. The vegetarian dish was very nice and the singapore noodles were very tasty. And it´s good value for money. It was bit slow for lunch though.
Barrys of Douglas
Douglas Cork, Douglas, Cork
went there with a big group of friends and we were all quite happy with the meal. Amongst the starters, the monkfish and scallops skewers were to die for, the goats cheese salad and the monkfish goujons were very nice. The steak sandwich was excellent. On the down side the cajun chicken was a bit too spicy and the chicken with jalapenos cream was too dry. Amongst the desserts, the truffles were fantastic and the chocolate cake very nice too. The coconut and malibu ice-cream was disappointing as it tasted like a vanilla ice-cream with tiny pieces of coconut. It also seemed to have been in the fridge for a long time. the pineapple pieces with chilli were nice though.
Il Primo and The Silver Key Bar
Ballinlough, Ballinlough, Cork
Everytime I have been here, I haven´t been disappointed. This time it was as good. The service was a bit slow but the food was very nice. The portions were big and tasty. The cod and plaice were lovely and the duck and beef stir-frys were also nice. The desserts were lovely even though some of the people I was with said that some of them were a bit too sweet. The baileys and maltesers cheesecake was delicious though.
The Boardwalk Bar and Grill
Lapps Quay, Cork City, Cork
Went there for lunch. The service was extremely slow and the food was just ok. The mozzarella and tomato salad was really small and the meat was not great. Quite pricey also. It was disappointing after hearing so much about this place
The Club Brasserie
Lapps Quay, Cork City, Cork
We went there for lunch and the food was fabulous. Lots of choices and good value. The only negative comments are that the tables in the middle were quite close to each other and the service was very slow but I will go back.
5/6 Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork City, Cork
We´ve been here before and it has always been great, however this time around it was a bit disappointing. I had the sesame prawns with almonds and first of all, I could not find any of the almonds. Also the noodles were cold while the prawns were hot so the combination did not work out very well. There was quite a difference in the size of the lemon sole salad and the chicken salad, even though they were both the medium size but they were nice. I would still recommend this restaurant but this visit was not as good as the previous ones.
Proby's Bistro (Douglas)
Douglas, Douglas, Cork
After having visited Proby´s in town several times, I was expecting a lot from this restaurant. The food was not even close: they seemed completely different places!!The starters were big but the main courses were cold, dry and lacking of the side veg. The desserts were just ok. The service was not great having to wait a long time to be served. It has to be said that the price was very good but the quality wasn´t great. Great disappointment.
Cahir Rd Clonmel, The Park Hotel, Clonmel, Tipperary
The restaurant was very busy when we arrived. We had a melon starter and it was very small and the melon was hard. The chicken and mushroom vol-au-vent was big and tasty on the other hand. For main course, we had a vegetarian stir-fry and it was just ok and the other course was braised beef.Even though the portion was quite big, the meat was really dry. Profiteroles and black forest roulade for desert. Both of them extremely dry and seemed to have been in the fridge for a long time. Quite disappointing for a very nice hotel.
The Blue Haven Hotel and Restaurant
3/4 Pearse Street, Kinsale, Kinsale, Cork
It was my second time in this restaurant. Its tastefully decorated and had a good atmosphere. I was really impressed with the fish&chips the first time and the cheesecake was to die for. This time around though, the chicken salad was just ok with the bacon pieces being really salty. My partner had the steak sandwih and said it was ok. The cheesecake this time was different, it seemed to have been kept in the fridge too long and the apple pie was way too sweet. It was dissapointing.
Bacco Ristorante Italiano
4-5 Chapel Lane, Ballincollig, Cork
Its a lovely, cosy restaurant. The staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. The sole was amazing and was skinned and the bones taken out in front of out so te presentation was excellent. The pizza was very nice too.Maybe a little bit expensive but it´s worthy.I´ll definitely go back
6 Bridge Street, Cork City, Cork
We had a voucher from this site so the meal was great value. Otherwise, I think that it is expensive for what you get. Also the space is very restricted and not very comfortable but the atmosphere was good. We had patatas bravas, the chicken wings and the serrano and cheese croquettes. The patatas were lovely and I really liked the croquettes event hough you could not get the serrano ham flavour...Now we were very disappointed with the chicken wings. They had a dry coating that it was difficult to swallow, like paprika or something. Not very pleasant. For desert we had the lemon mousse that was delicious and the chocolate pot which was nice. Im still not convinced by the food completely
Banna Thai Restaurant
Ballincollig, Ballincollig, Cork
I loved this restaurant!we had had take-away before and it had been lovely but the staff were helpful and very nice. The portions were big and very tasty and it was very good value for money.
The Met Bar@ The Gresham Metropole
Maccurtain Street, Cork City, Cork
Quite expensive for lunch. The chips and veggie were cold but the cod was nice. The lasagna was nice but it was a bit small. The sandwiches looked nice.
Nutmeg Organic Restaurant
14 A French Church Street, Cork City, Cork
We went to this restaurant for dinner and we were quite impressed. The noodles were ok but the tuna burger and the warm chicken salad were truly delicious. And the banana and toffee crepes were very nice. Very good value for money too.
Eddie Rockets (Galway City)
Galway City, Wellpark Retail Centre, Galway City, Galway
The portions were quite small, very expensive and the quality wasnt great. I dont think we´ll go back again.
The Glen, Kinsale, Cork
We went for dinner last night for the first time and we were extremely impressed with the quality of the food and service. The atmosphere was cosy and relaxed. The lobster risotto and the carpaccio of tuna were to die for and the John Dory was fresh, light and delicious!! It is on the expensive side but it´s totally worth it.
Proby's Quay Crosses Garden, Cork City, Cork
I was really impressed with this restaurant.
ECO Douglas Restaurant
1/2 Eastville, Douglas Village, Douglas, Cork
Went there on friday and the food was excellent but the space was extremely restricted, specially when we had booked a table for 6 and we got a table for 4.Thank God, there were 5 of us at the end, otherwise, it would have been impossible. We were also rushed at the end and the staff werent very nice.
Main Street, Ballincollig, Co. Cork, Ballincollig, Cork
I have been there several times and the food has always been excellent as well as the service. The monkfish and sea bass are to die for, even though they are a bit expensive for the quantity. The sizzling noodles were also very good. The cold beef salad as starter wasnt a big favourite but the desserts were quite nice too.It can be a bit expensive but its lovely.
Soho Bar and Restaurant
77 Grand Parade, Cork City, Cork
Lovely food at affordable prices. Went for Sunday lunch and there was a wide selection of dishes. The only thing is that it was really busy so the space was very restricted.
Dish Restaurant - Closed
Punches Cross, Limerick City, Limerick
The food was gorgeous, they took our order quickly and the food was served fast. The guinea foul was nice but the sea bass was excellent. Its a bit out of the way but its worthy.
Clarion Hotel Limerick, Limerick City, Limerick
It was extremely busy when we arrived.
Closed, Cork City, Cork
There was a wide selection of wines. The atmosphere was really cosy even thought I think its quite crammed and there isnt much space in between the tables. I found the menu a bit difficult to suit my taste but I have to say it didnt disappoint me at all. The carpaccio was the best of the meal and the hake was really fresh and tasty.
Luigi Malones (Cork)
1-2 Emmet Place, Cork City, Cork
I went there with a couple of friends at around 9 and the place was not as buzzing as other times. The food was good and the portions were huge. The waitress forgot a portion of fries but we did not ask for it again. Another waiter was extremely apologetic and gave me the coffee that I had ordered for free. He could not have been nicer. The chorizo and pork espetadas were very nice and the chorizo and sour cream burger was unusual but my friend loved it! The toblerone cheesecake was expensive but amazing!
