Bad Ass Cafe restaurant
Crown Alley, Temple Bar, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin, Area Code: Dublin 2
Reviewed 27th May 2008 ( visited 23rd May 2008 )I love this place and have been a number of times. Went last week with my boyfriend and as ususal, it lived up to expectations. The atmosphere is great, the staff are so helpful and friendly and the food is fantastic! I had the Cajun Calzoni and it was packed full of beautiful pieces of cajun chicken and lots of pineapple pieces. Delicious! My boyfriend had the spagetti Bolognese and it came with a beautiful slice of garlic bread on the side. The bolognese was a little bit too bland for our taste, but overall, we had no complaints and will definitely be making a return visit!
Antica Venezia restaurant
97 Ashfield Road, Dublin 6, Ranelagh, Dublin, Area Code: Dublin 6
Reviewed 19th March 2008 ( visited 27th February 2008 )Myself and my boyfriend had eaten here before and really emjoyed it so when we found ourselves in Ranelagh again, we knew where to go. Unfortunately our second visit wasn't quite as enjoyable... The restaurant was cold, so much so that i had to wear my coat throughout the meal. The garlic bread tasted of margarine and came out burnt. I had Cannelloni (my favourite dish) and couldn't finish it. There was way too much spinach in it which seemed to be paste-like and no sign of any ricotta. There was also about an inch of mozzarella cheese melted on top which seemed oily and not at all nice. I asked for a portion of bread to have with my meal and they charged me 5euro! The garlic bread was cheaper than that... My boyfriend ordered one of the pizzas and did not enjoy that either. Unfortunately we won't be going back.
MV Cill Airne Boat Bar & Restaurant
MV Cill Airne, North Wall Quay, Dublin 1, IFSC, Dublin
Amazing! We ate in the Bistro and it was simply perfect. The food, service, cocktails were all excellent. Would definitely recommend this place and can\'t wait to go back
Hogs and Heifers
South Quarter Airside, Swords , Swords, Dublin
Would not recommend. Overexpensive. Ordered Southern Fried Chicken but the sides that came out were not what was shown on the menu. My husband's food was also very disappointing and not as described. The food was bland and there wasn't much of it. Left feeling hungry and will definitely not be back.
Harveys Bar and Grill Restaurant (Above Harvest Bar & Lounge)
Main Street, Balbriggan, Balbriggan, Dublin
Terrible. Three of us went for dinner here and were shown to a table right by the door and told this was the only one available, even though the place was less than half full. The order was taken quite quickly. we had two starters between 3 of us, the potato skins (which was one medium potato in quarters, no garnish or anything) and the garlic mushrooms. They were tasty but very sparse. We waited over 45 minutes for our mains, during which time we were not once checked on. We even had to go to the bar to order another round of drinks. The mains eventually arrived, Louisiana Chicken Pasta, Loaded Chicken and Scampi. I had the Louisiana chicken and it looked and tasted like it had been ready for ages and had been sitting under the hot lamp in the kitchen. The loaded chicken was fine but the scampi was really not good. Only one of the two orders of chips arrived, a small bowl. When we chased the second bowl of chips, the waitress never apologised or anything, but plonked a half bowl of chips on the end of our table a few minutes later, we think it was half of the chips meant for the table she was dropping food to at the time. Although there was a lot of food left on our plates, we were never asked how the meal had been. We ordered the 'stack' of pancakes and the toffee hazelnut pavlova and these were literally dumped on the end of our table, without a word. The pancakes were three tiny things with a scoop of ice-cream. We had to send them back as they were like rubber, we couldn't actually cut them. The pavlova was rock hard and had no marshmallow centre. it looked like it had been made ages ago, the cream had set on top of it and there was no sauce, just some icecream and hazelnut dust on top. Suffice to say, there was no tip given and we will not be back. The total bill was E79 which included 4 beers and 2 cokes.
Harbour Road, North Co. Dublin, Skerries, Dublin
Went here on Saturday night for a family meal. There were 6 of us. We had booked a table upstairs, which was ready when we arrived 15 minutes early. We were given a very warm welcome and showed to our table, which was a bit tight for space. The menu was great and the food was absolutely amazing! I could personally recommend the crab cakes which were to die for! However, the main course was a big let down. Whilst the food was absolutely delicious, for the price you pay, there's not much of it. There was only 4 portions of potatoes and 1 portion of veg brought out between the 6 of us and the chicken, which I had, was very small... The waitress was brilliant and even put a candle on my dad's dessert as she heard it was his birthday. Would definitely go back, but probably have early bird next time...
Gourmet Food Parlour Ballyboughal
Oldtown Road, Ballyboughal, Ballyboughal, Dublin
Had a fantastic lunch here on Saturday. We had the goats cheese salad and the chicken caesar salad, both massive and nothing short of devine. The warm bread that came with them was so so tasty and the chicken in the caesar salad was plentiful. We had raspberry roulade and snickers cake for dessert and neither of us could finish it. Will definitely be going back here again.
Main Street, Killybegs, Killybegs, Donegal
Had the Cod and Chips here yesterday and would definitely recommend them! The only fault is the crushed peas which accompany them, whilst they were very tasty, the were a bit dry. Will be back though!
Caiseal Mara Hotel
Foyle Street, Moville, Donegal
Food here is fantastic! We dropped in for lunch on Saturday and were not disappointed. The place was very quiet but the waitress, who doubled as a receptionist could not have been more welcoming. The food was cooked fresh and was really tasty. I had the Caiseal Mara burger and chips. The burger was homemade and really huge, I was given about 3 portions of chips in a bowl. My friend had the roast of the day - pork and was given 3 big thick slices. She was also given 4 scoops of mash, two different veg and a roast potato. Come to this place hungry! All that, plus a pint and a soft drink for less than €25. Excellent
Brewery Bar & Restaurant
Market Square, Letterkenny, Donegal
Came upon this place by chance on Saturday night and what a find! I had the monkfish (my favourite) and it was definitely the best I had ever tasted. My friend had the seafood pancakes and told me that she will be dreaming about them for years to come, they were packed full of fab fish and tasted divine. House white wine was delicious and went down very easily. The restaurant was very busy and one of the waitresses had a tendancy to ignore us which is why I've dropped the service rating, we had to ask three times for our bill which was a bit annoying. Will definitely be back though.
The Old Schoolhouse (Dublin)
Coolbanagher Church Road, North Co. Dublin, Swords, Dublin
Went here on a Monday night to use my citydeals voucher. The restaurant is fab, realy oldfashioned furniture and very comfortable. The waitress was great but it took us a while to be seated, when we went in there was no staff to be seen. I had the duck which was fab, lots of meat and the noodle were lovely, although I would have preferred a little less sauce on them. Himself had the Cod and it was a very small portion of fish. There wasn't much sauce on it and the taste was completely masked by the sauce on the accompanying veg. Overall, very nice though and good service. Prices on the menu were quite high so don't think I'd be coming back to this restaurant at that price, would be interested to try the barfood menu though.
208 Lower Rathmines Road, Dublin 6, Rathmines, Dublin
Wow, what a fantastic restaurant! Was brought here by my friend. I've been in Rathmines many times but had never noticed Manifesto before. The food was nothing short of amazing, the service fantastic, attentive but not in your face and the atmosphere was like stepping into a local restaurant in Italy. Have already booked my next visit and can't wait to go back!
Masterson's Steakhouse & Wine Bar
17 Main Street, Swords, Dublin
Brought our friends here for a meal on 30th Dec as we had been before and loved it. The food lived up to our expectations and was divine. However, the service was far from good. We were waiting 30 minutes for our order to be taken, then a further 55 minutes for our main course to come out. The desserts took 25 minutes to come out. I've never had to wait so long for food before. I know it was a busy period, but the delays were beyond a joke and definitely put a dampner on the evening for us. However, I will be back, just on a quieter evening!
Samphire @ The Waterside
The Waterside House Hotel, Near Swords, Donabate, Donabate, Dublin
Went here lastnight for a family celebration and all I can say is fantastic! The food was amazing and so plentiful. When we went in first, there was no waiter to be seen, there was just one lone couple in the restaurant (I've knocked half a point off atmosphere for this) and the receptionist had to go find one for us (this is where the other half point got deducted). However, when he came, he was brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. They have great deals on the menus, with a fantastic 'Taste of Asia' menu that we all ended up selecting. Helpings were really big, so I had to skip dessert. For two course meal for 5 of us with two additional desserts and including two half bottles of wine, two cokes and two lattes came to just €115. Fantastic value. Will definitely be back!
Luigi Malones Restaurant
5/6 Cecilia Street, Dublin 2 , City Centre, Temple Bar, Dublin
Very disappointing as we had heard so many good things about this restaurant. We were told on arrival that we had just over an hour to eat our meal and vacate the table, which we found quite rude. The diners beside us might as well have been sitting on our knees, the tables were too close together. It was impossible to get served and when we did, our starters were out before our drinks. The wine was lovely and a good price at €11.95, from the early bird menu. The garlic bread was bland and burnt around the edges. Garlic mushrooms didn't even have a garnish, they came out rolling around on their plate. They were plentiful though and the garlic mayo dip was nice. The calzone was full of spinach and lumps of cheese, not very appetizing. It was also very dry and had no sauce on top which it should have. The chicken and mushroom carbonara had about 5 small pieces of chicken and wasn't very nice. The restaurant was too hot and the fan overheard was not turned on. We waited ages to get our bill and eventually gave up and went up to the till ourselves. We definitely won't be going back.
80 Aungier Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
Without doubt, the nicest food I have ever tasted! Was brought here for my birthday and can't recommend it highly enough. We were the only ones there (it was a Monday evening) but the waitress was great, not too pushy and seemed to know when you wanted her. The food was second to none. Will definitely be going back.
FIRE Restaurant and Lounge
Mansion House, Dawson Street, Dublin 2, Dawson Street, Dublin
Went here with a party of 5 for after work food. It was a beautiful Friday evening and we chose a table outside. The service was excellent. Two of us were a lot earlier than the rest and there was no fuss, they brought us our bottle of wine and a platter of bread and left us to enjoy them in peace. Everyone loved their food, couldn't speak highly enough of it. Service was impeccable and whole experience great. Even though it was busy, we were able to linger over our wine and cocktails after dinner and were not rushed out the door. Will definitely be back.
Smyths Cock Tavern Swords
31 Main Street, Swords, Dublin
Nice food but overpriced for what we got. Service was non-existant when we visited, we had to go up to the bar to order and again for drinks and to pay. Didn't bother with desserts for this reason. Not the place for a relaxing Sunday tea as we had hoped. Bar was too noisy (upstairs).
Unit 11, Donabate Town Centre, Donabate, Dublin
Very very disappointing. Having read the reviews I was looking forward to trying this place. We went on a Sunday and the place was very busy which we took as a good sign. We were slow to be seated and everything got slower from there. There were loads of tables with dirty dishes on them and the staff didn't seem too inclined to clear them. Food took forever to come and when it did, we didn't eat much of it. I had the carbonara and it was literally swimming in sauce. Not very appetising. My boyfriend had another pasta dish and it was the same. We ended up leaving most of it behind us and then spent ages trying to get the bill. Will not be going back
Old Plaza Restaurant
Unit 20, 1st Floor, The Plaza, Swords, Dublin
I've been here a number of times, most recently with my boyfriend for an early evening meal. It always lives up to expectations. The menu is great and has something for everyone. I had the chicken chow mein and my boyfriend had the spicy garlic chicken. Both were delicious and would pick them again. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.
The Gallery Restaurant at the Church
Junction of Mary St. & Jervis St., Dublin 1, City Centre North, Dublin
Went here during the dine in dublin week and had the set menu. The service was second to none. I ordered the duck pancakes which were a bit of a disappointment, the duck was dry and there was way too much leek and cucumber in the pancake and not half enough duck or sauce. My boyfriend ordered the carrot and coriander soup which he said was delicious. We both had steak for mains and it was one of the nicest steaks I've ever had. Even thinking about it is making my mouth water! I had the chocolate cake for dessert which would have been a lot nicer if it was heated (which I had requested and instead got hot fudge on top of the cold cake). My boyfriend had the apple pie which he said was delicious. Will definitely be going back but only for a special occasion. Even with the set menu, it was quite pricey for what we got. It's also quite noisy from the bar below which would be handy if you were having a party, but not great for a meal for 2.
Elephant & Castle
18/19 Temple Bar, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
Have always wanted to go to this restaurant as I've heard great things about it. Unfortunately my experience didn't quite live up to my expectations. We were ignored by the staff when we entered the restaurant, there were plenty at the bar but none even acknowledged us for a few minutes, then we had to wait for a table for about 5 minutes even though we could see plenty of free tables in the restaurant and it wasn't busy. The food was lovely, I had the chicken wings which are really to die for and my other half had the garlic burger which he said was delicious also. That and two cokes came to €30 which we thought was very expensive for what we got. It took ages for us to get the bill and then the waiter went off with my credit card and I had to follow him after about 5 minutes when he hadn't come back! Lovely food but I don't think i'll be back.
The Boxty House
20-21 Temple Bar, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
Very very disappointed with this place. Had two american cousins over and wanted to bring them somewhere a bit different to what they're used to. After careful consideration I chose this place. Luckily we booked because there was a queue out the door when we arrived. The waiter was brilliant and we were shown to our table immediately. The menu looks great but we were all disappointed when our meals were brought out. Mine was the worst. I ordered the Boxty Mór which was supposed to be boxty dumplings with seasonal veg with either smoked salmon and dill cream or Cashel Blue Cheese sauce. When it came out, it was literally swimming in a white sauce which was neither smoked salmon nor Cashel Blue and was not at all nice. The boxty dumplings were tiny little things and I ended up trying to fish them out of the sauce. Everyone else said their dishes were ok but none of us finished our meal. On the other hand, the desserts were divine, although mine came out 10 minutes after the other 3 and I had to ask the waitress 3 times for it. Won't be going back here
Bits and Pizzas
15 Patrick Street, Dun Laoghaire, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin
Went here with my boyfriend on Saturday night. Luckily we had booked a table as there was a constant queue for the whole evening! I had the chicken wings to start and my boyfriend had the garlic mushrooms. Both were delicious and plentiful. I had to leave some of my wings to keep room for my mains! I had the Kentucky pizza for mains which was gorgeous. My boyfriend had the sicilian which wasn't so great. I know it said on the menu that it came with sour cream but it wasn't presented very nicely, just a big dollop right in the middle of the pizza! Desserts were lovely, I had Baileys & choc cheesecake and my boyfriend had the chocolate sundae. 3 courses and a 7up each came to just less than €60 which we found to be very overpriced. I would recommend this place but be prepared to pay for higher than average for the food...
24 Suffolk Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
I love this place. You know exactly what you're getting when you walk in the door. Service is never the best and you might be waiting for a table for a few minutes but the food is consistently good. Big portions, free refills of soft drinks and an all you can eat ice-cream machine - what more could you want?? Great selection of food and always comes out looking and tasting great
The Halls, Quay Street, Galway City, Galway
The food here is so good! I went there yesterday looking for some lunch and was definitely not disappointed.. I had the Calzoni and my sister had another pizza and they were both delicious! plenty on the plates and more than enough to fill us. My sister actually asked for a doggy bag to bring home her leftovers for later - something she has never done before! Highly rate it for good, no nonsense food in a friendly and fun atmosphere. The service was great and the location is brilliant!
19 Castlemill Balbriggan, Balbriggan, Dublin
I have eaten here before and always enjoyed it. However, I was here last saturday and ordered the Carbonara and what a disappointment! the pasta was swimming in a sauce that seemed to be just cream and the bacon was very fatty and definitely not cooked enough. Altogether, the dish was extremely salty and very disappointing as it's one of my favourites. My boyfriend had the mini breakfast which had been sitting under the grill for quite a while. The tomato was burnt and the toast was rubbery. I will come back here because i've enjoyed this café in the past and it is very convenient but will not be ordering these dishes again.
The Huntsman Inn
College Road, Galway City, Galway
Really like this place. It's just on the outskirts of the city so it's really handy to get to with lots of car parking and also a bus stop right outside the door!! Food is lovely and wholesome and there's plenty of space in the pub, even though it's always quite busy.. Worth a visit!
43 Watergate Street Navan, Navan, Meath
This is the best chipper I've ever been in! The food is so yummy my mouth is watering just thinking about it now... Onion rings are the best I've ever had and the curry chips are divine. Couldn't recommend this place strongly enough!
Main Street, Duleek, Duleek, Meath
I have been to this restaurant a few times and have always come away happy! The food is always really delicious and good value for what you get. It can take a while for the food to come out but it's worth the wait. Delicious!
Main Street, Bettystown, Bettystown, Meath
I have only ever had take-out from this restaurant but it's definitely one of the best in the area! Food is really lovely and the portions are quite generous!
China Garden (Meath)
Brews Hill, Navan, Meath
I love this place and have been a number of times. It's a bit pricy but fantastic for a special occasion as you're guaranteed to have a great meal. The service is great and the restaurant is lovely, with a lovely relaxed atmosphere.
Little Caesars (Harcourt Street)
The Harcourt Hotel, 59 Harcourt Street, City Centre South, Dublin
I have been here many times for lunch. It is always busy but the service is always excellent. Good quality food that's affordable and the service is always quick and cheerful.
La Salsa (Galway)
6 Mainguard Street, Galway City, Galway
I used to live close to here and became addicted to the quesedillas!! They're the best I ever had! The service is great and the food is delicious. Fast and cheap and so tasty. Getting hungry just thinking about it... Mmmm
Cactus Jacks Galway
Courthouse Lane, Galway City, Galway
Like it's Dublin counterpart, I adore this restaurant. Went here recently with two friends and although we hadn't booked and the place was busy, they found us a table within 5 minutes, with the really friendly hostess chatting to us all the time while we waited. Service is second to none and food is fantastic. Would definitely recommend it.
Cactus Jacks (Middle Abbey St)
Millennium Walkway, Middle Abbey Street, City Centre North, Italian Quarter, Dublin
I love this place and have been a number of times. The service and food are fantastic. The atmosphere in the place is great. Love the chicken fajitas
Bu Ali Tandoori
28 Clanbrassil Street Lower, South Dublin, South Circular, Dublin
After reading the comments on this site, I felt I had to try this place. I was not disappointed. It's nothing great to look at but the food more than makes up for this. Delicious!! I had the chicken tikka masala and a coriander naan which was the best I've ever tasted. I will definitely be going back again
Bad Ass Cafe

Punjabi By Nature Indian Restaurants & Takeaway
15 Ranelagh Village, South Dublin, Ranelagh, Dublin
After reading the comments on this page, I felt it was time I tried out this restaurant! How disappointing! The service was terrible. When we entered the restaurant, there were no staff to be seen. We knew it was open because there was another couple there eating but it took almost 5 minutes for us to be noticed and then seated (by the manager I think). The food was ok. Not amazing and could definitely have been a lot hotter. We sat with out empty plates for about 10 minutes whilst the waitress stood close by and then decided to walk to the back of the restaurant to the staff area. After about 15 minutes the manager came and cleared our table. We asked for the bill at this stage but after another 10 minutes when it didn't arrive, we ended up going up to the counter where the waitress was hanging around and paying. Overall, the food was good but don't expect good service.
Crumlin Cross, Crumlin, Dublin
Had Sunday Carvery here yesterday. The portions were huge (there were 4 slices of Turkey on my plate)and very tasty but the food really wasn't hot enough. It had obviously been sitting there for a while. The food was also very salty The tables were cleared but were not wiped down. Overall, I do not think I would go back.
Drogheda Street, Balbriggan, Dublin
This place used to be the best in Balbriggan for food about 10 years ago. It's really gone downhill recently, not what I would expect for the prices you pay!
Balrothery, Balbriggan, Balbriggan, Dublin
I've been here twice for the sunday roast and will definitely be returning! The food is simple but well cooked and delicious. This isn't the place to go for fussy food, just proper, decent grub.
Canal Bank Cafe
146 Upper Leeson Street, Dublin 4, Ballsbridge, Dublin
I love this café and always order the chicken wings, they get a bit addictive after a while. I would recommend you order a portion between two and then a side of fries to go with them. The burgers are also delicious as is the Caesar salad. The service can be a bit slow, especially during busy periods so I would only go if I don't have to be somewhere in an hour. It's quite expensive but I think it's well worth it.
Captain America's Cookhouse And Bar
44 Grafton Street, Dublin 2, City Centre South, Dublin
I have been here a number of times and have really enjoyed it. If you like your burgers this is a great place to go with plenty of choice. It's always quite busy so you might need to queue. That's ok though because they give you the menu to browse while you're waiting at the bar! The service is very good too.
65 Ranelagh Village, Dublin 6, Ranelagh, Dublin
I have dined here many times, usually with a crowd and have always left happy. The food is divine. Yes, the tables are a little bit cramped but the staff are lovely and the food is out of this world. Very reasonable for what you get too. Would definitely recommend reservations if you're going with a group of people.
97 Ashfield Road, Dublin 6, Ranelagh, Dublin
Myself and my boyfriend had eaten here before and really emjoyed it so when we found ourselves in Ranelagh again, we knew where to go. Unfortunately our second visit wasn't quite as enjoyable... Bettystown Court Hotel - Closed till May
Bettystown, Bettystown, Meath
Went to this restaurant for a family meal. It was fantastic. The restaurant was quite quiet as it was a Wednesday night. There was only one waiter but he was brilliant and even though there was another 5/6 tables there, the service was excellent. We had 6 different dishes for main course and everyone cleared their plate. Was a little bit disappointed with my dessert though, but everyone else really liked theirs. I will definitely be going back here. I also recently attended a wedding reception in this hotel and would definitely recommend it! the food was second to none and there was heaps of it! (literally!!) The service was fantastic and as one of the bottom tables, we weren't left waiting for ages for our food, as I have experienced in other places. I would seriously consider holding a party or wedding here in the future
Frenchs Lane, Trim, Meath
Went to this restaurant for a 30th Birthday party. There were 25 of us and the service was excellent, the staff were brilliant and very friendly and helpful. The food was amazing and will definitely be going back. The price was very reasonable, everyone had 3 courses, plenty of wine and beer were flowing and it only cost €27 each, including paying for the birthday girl. Would definitely recommend it and can't wait for my next visit.
