My husband and I recently visited D Vine in their new premises on Dyer Street. We found the place warm and inviting and staff delightful. I had the house special starter with goat's cheese and it was lovely. We both had pizzas, which were as good as any we have had in Italy and my tiramisu was devine. The menu represents very good value and we have planned a return visit shortly - if the weather had not been so bad, we we would have been back before now. Keep up the great work.

I returned to Mastersons recently, having given it a miss following several incidents of very slow service. Unfortunately there was no evident improvement. While the waiting staff are very pleasant, I think that the kitchen has a problem turning out the dishes promptly, this pressure seems more evident at lunch time or maybe customers are not under the same time pressure in the evenings. When there is a special lunch menu, presumably catering for the customer on lunch from work, slow service is not acceptable. We enjoyed the food, when it came, such a pity to then have to rush it in order to return to work. Maybe it's time I drew a line under Mastersons, for lunch anyway.

Hemmingways
2B Vernon Avenue, Dublin 3, Clontarf, Dublin

i visited Hemmingways as part of a family group of 19 for a pre Christmas lunch. It was excellent. Despite the diversity of our group, everyone rated their meal as excellent. The food, service, ambience and value were terrific. All but one of us choose seafood, and it was excellent. At Hemmingways they understands food. They prepare it beautifully and along with the excellent serviice, friendlieness of the staff and delightful ambience, it makes for a great occassion. i will be going back before too long.

The Forty Four Hotel & Bar
Main Street, Swords, Dublin

A friend and I had lunch in the Hawthorn this week - we were surprised to discover that apart from ourselves the place was empty. We had a lovely light lunch, I had bruschetta and it was really flavoursome. It was excellent value and the service was without fault.

Picasso Restaurant
1 Vernon Avenue, Clontarf, Dublin

We celebrated my Dads birthday in Picasso - there were over thirty of us. We had arranged a limited menu of 3 starters and 3 main courses. all were tried and all were excellent. We had eaten there as a couple before but Picasso were not found wanting when it came to food and service for a big group.

Wrights Cafe Bar
The Plaza, Swords, Swords, Dublin

I returned to Wrights this week having had very slow and poor service on my previous visit. This time, while the food was fine (not spectacular) the service was as slow as ever. There is a lot of lunch business in the Swords area, but for Wrights to get their share they will need to speed up the service.

Eastern Seaboard
1 Bryanstown Centre, Dublin Road, Drogheda, Louth

We have eaten here several times and cannot praise the place enough. The food is great and the place is always hopping - be sure to book. Great variety on the menu and ve ry reasonably priced. A short enough wine list, but the staff are very knowlegable and the mark up is fair. We cannot wait to go back again.

The Gallops Bar and Restaurant
Julianstown Inn, Main Street, Julianstown, Meath

Today my family had lunch in the Gallops. My husband had eaten there pre Christmas and recommended the food - he was not wrong the food was really good. We started with Spring Roll, Cheese and Onion tartlet and Calamari - all great and well presented. Mains were Steak Sandwich, Cod & Chips and a special Stuffed Chicken - great flavour and proper chips too. Only draw back being the cold - it was VERY cold (like eating outside). When we enquired we were told that there is not central heating system! Most diners were wearing their coats and scarves! Such a pity that the welcome was not warm - we will go back but not until the summer. YOU WERE WARNED - WEAR YOUR THERMALS!
