I love this restaurant. It is one of the best dining experiences I had. Whether lunch or dinner it never fails to offer quality food, ambience, service, sophistication yet with simple style, and an informal but classy air. My last visit was at lunch time with another female companion. Could not fault it even on our hundreth or so visit. I had the wild mushroom pasta with basil cream and my dining partner had the fish cakes. Both impeccable, my dish was creamy but light and well portioned, the flavour of wild mushroom being one I taste still. I love the changing specials at lunch and a fail safe regular menu, its viva la diference yet they do not forget the old favourites that mouth wateringly bring return custom. Also staff are friendly and always accomodating, they changed my friends side salad to baby potatoes on request without extra cost. I could write on but I think you get the picture, one of the best restaurants around.

Paid a visit to Limerick and needed a bite to eat quickly as weather was freezing and strolling around not an option. Found Chocolate, it looking a bit more contempory than some eateries in the city made it look like a safe bet. Now while I can't fault the food, (my pork and rice dish from the philipeans was nice, well cooked and a bit unusal at least) I cannot recomend it either. Its simple food, designed to keep the whole family happy not please a gastronomic guru. The vast variety from pasta to noodles to fish and chips and wraps is a punter gathering exercise and oddly makes the place boring as food loses its excitement. The atmosphere is busy but the place itself looked like a good clean could be given or maybe that was just my table. Price wise its very good, but then again you get what you pay for and cheap price did not win me exceptional food. Average restaurant suitable for large fussy families rather than those who want a quality meal.

The Sage Cafe
67-68 Catherine Street, Limerick, Limerick City, Limerick

Great little place for lunch dates in Limerick, always busy and bustling. Went here twice this week, had the same meal both times, boring on my part but testament to the food. It was the chicken breast, spiced and served with cream mashed potatoes and balsamic dressing along with caramelised onions that are to die for. It is perfect hearty fair for the current weather. Cosy, homely and honest food but with the distinction of a classy presentation and imaginative tastes. Rustic cooking at it supream best, perfect for lunching ladies and starved solos alike. Not a restaraunt for late dinner or elegant gastronomics but a real treat for daytime dining. Service is also efficent even with the crowds, staff are friendly. Atmosphere is a bit rushed but nothing, and maybe the setting lacks character but otherwise one of my Limerick favourites.

Gallagher's Seafood Restaurant
JP Clarkes Country Pub, Bunratty, Clare

Went here for the early bird wine and dine menu. Food was delicious, could not fault quality. I had the mussels to start which were lovely, steamed in wine and served with just right amount of cream sauce. My companion had the chowder which looked creamy and tasty, plenty of fish, though chowder as a starter is a bit on the heavy side. We both had the swordfish for main course and it was excellent. served with rice and tomato jam. One word is that it lacked a bit of refinement, a portion of potatoe and veg was served also, this was not necessary and somewhat took away from the plate. I would have been happy with either potato or rice not both. The menu is very good for an early bird though the main menu is superior, perhaps a bit more variety or extravagance could be made available to the early dinner also? It is a reccession after all....Over all lovely ambience, if not a bit touristy and cottage like. Service was good but again refinement could be achieved instead of home style service. Would go back.

Cafe Noir - O'Connell Street
84 O'Connell Street, Limerick City, Limerick

Went here to escape rain one day. Was initialy attracted by the beautiful front of cafe, old terraced house, quaint and charming. Being new to the city I was not aqquainted with the Cafe noir chain and so was pleasently charmed by the decor, suitably french but snug and somehow comforting in its cliched way. Coffee was my order and scone, both large and filling, not the cheapest coffee but very good. The service is good though nothing extradinary, usualy self service, maybe a smile would not go astray? Overall I was impressed by the place, in city with quiet a few modern coffee shops this chain does a lot to soothe ones need for old world charm. Liked it enough to return.

French Table
Steamboat Quay, Limerick City, Limerick

I visited this restaurant with my mother, both she and myself were disappointed with our last visit to a Limerick restaurant so hoped to be pleasently surprised. The menu is small enough to be perusable at lunch, (it was a daytime excursion) yet varied enough to suit most tastes and needs. I paticulary liked the idea of serving both large and small portions of the salads. Both of us went with the fish of the day, as avid fish lovers. It was beautifully cooked, indulgent yet simple, the way fish should be. the sides of veg and potatoe were just enough and the presentation perfect and neat. We both commented that if we had been handed it up at an evening sitting we would have been delighted. Crepes for dessert were lovely, a nice light option and delightful to see as it is marketed as a French restaurant. And to top it off, the ambience is good, nice plain decor and soft music, if not the most elegant of locations, and also the price is impeccable considering the exception standard of food. Will definitely return.
