Myself and a friend had dinner last night using a menupages voucher. I can't say enough about how good the service was. The staff were attentive without being intrusive. However, the choice of menu I felt was limited (five starters, five mains - 2 were fish, one was vegetarian, one was the beef with a €7 supplement and the other was game [pheasant]). The food itself was satisfactory but nothing special. Going on other reviews and also the fact that this deal was at the higher end price-wise we had expected the food to be a bit more memorable. I had the ham hock terrine for starter which was lovely but unfortunately accompanied by some bread which was toasted and burnt at the side. Both of use had the cod - the menu read, Cod, curry, pea, egg and chips. With only this list of ingredients to go on we asked the waiter how the fish was cooked - coated in curry, pan fired and served with the other accompaniments. The cod was cooked nicely but we certainly couldn't get any flavour of curry or otherwise from it. The additional ingredients where slight to say the least and we had mistakenly assumed that chips meant some type of substance and not the 6/8 puffed chips with decorated the plate. We were glad we hadn't gone with our partners - as they no doubt would have been looking for a takeaway on the way home!

The Egg Cafe (Avoca Rathcoole)
Naas Road, Rathcoole, Dublin

We went for a friend's birthday and had a fantastic meal. Each one of us had a different item off the menu and not one of us had a bad thing to say. Maybe a little on the pricey side for lunch - maybe, but it was worth every cent!
