This is a fantastic place, a real smile on your face when you think of it place. Do not go here for breakfast kind of hungry as it will be a waste of your money! The portions and large and the quality of the food high. I love the fact that you can see into the kitchen & watch one of the owners cooking away. This for my nieces is their biggest treat of a weekend stay at our place, a visit to the Wild Onion. Just a few words of warnings, do not enter with buggies or children who are too young to order as the place is small & the manager is honest & forthcoming with their opinions. However I believe this all adds to the Wild Onion's charm & eccentricity. I have sampled every breakfast at this stage & love the hash browns, french toasts & real maple syrup & great coffee in particular. You are always greeted as a long long friend even when you have not been in for ages. Combine this visit with a Saturday morning visit to the Milk Market but be there at 9.00 am when it opens.

Delicious Sandwich & Coffee Bar
Market Square, Kildare Town, Kildare

Found this gem of a place having initially tried the Kildare Village Outlet Centre and found it over priced and over crowded. Do not be off put by the frontage as the inside looks nothing from the exterior but believe you me this was excellent. My colleague and I had 2 sandwiches and 2 coffees for E12.00. I had a brown bread (good quality) with blue cheese, real home cooked ham, sundried tomatoes and chutney, delicious flavours. The other brown sandwich was filled with real home cooked chicken fillet pieces, homemade coleslaw and cheese. The quality of the coffee was excellent and served in large cups. The service was friendly from start to finish and interested in us as customers. Off the coffee seating area was a play area for children. Will definitely be using Delicious as our meet or stop off venue for the future. Worth a mini detour off the M7.

Chocolat
109, O'Connell St, Limerick City, Limerick

Ate here with a group of friends. My first time to eat here, others could have shares in the place with their number of visits!! This is a perfect restaurant for a group not sure about couples although it seemed they may be catered for upstairs. We all went for the special offer 4 course meal & everyone cleared their plates so all good. There was a good choice on the menu, the food was presented well & tasty. The Asian Beef starter was a real hit as was the Thai Curry. A very busy place but efficient service. Perfect location for a group get together.

The Good Room Cafe
Main Street, Adare, Limerick

Met up with a friend here for a mid morning chat. A welcoming smile on entry, always a good sign. Lovely interior with original paintings & warm atmosphere. A choice of scones - plain, sultana & berry served with cream & homemade jam (I think). Coffee is excellent & served in big cups. The Moroccan Mint tea was elegantly served & was freshly made with actual mint & lemon infusing in a tall glass. Impressed with the place & will be back.

Rigby's Deli and Dining Room
126 Leeson Street, City Centre South, Dublin

We went here as a group of four based on a review and we were not disappointed. The no menu idea is a welcome change from the norm. The menu the night we went was a choice of 2 starters, 2 main courses and 2 desserts. Three of our group had the marinated seafood salad, really tasty and nicely presented. The other party member had the spiced beef salad and gave it a thumbs up. For main courses, the choice was either chicken or fish. It seems pork had been the dish earlier but was sold out & the chef had moved to chicken. Three of us had the fish - panfried gunard on a bed of mashed potato and roasted fennel bulb. The chicken was panfried and roasted with a jus served with baby potatoes & roasted fennel bulb. No one left anything on their plates so that tells you how good it was. Three of us were happy with the portions, one person would have liked a bit more fish. The dessert choice was a cheese plate or a ginger & white chocolate panna cotta. Three of us partook in dessert & all happy. A double expresso, a cappucino & a regular coffee rounded off the evening. All in all an excellent meal & great value at €109.00 in total. We all agreed the restaurant was perfect for a small group of 4 or 6. There was a good buzz in the place. The fact you can see the courses being cooked & then served by the chef is something I liked. There were only 2 other people working there & the service was friendly, professional & efficient. The restaurant is tidy in size in fact very like a French bistro as tables are sited close to one another. It adds to the atmosphere. All in all an eclectic experience.

Cherry Tree Restaurant
Lakeside, Ballina, Killaloe, Clare

We had a wonderful meal here. I choose the excellent value 5 course set menu for E37 while my companion choose off the a la carte menu. Even though they were not going for the set menu they were also served with the amuse bouche and the sorbet which I thought was a lovely gesture. Everything was of a high quality i.e. food, presentation and service. I had asparagus spears wrapped in pancetta with a filling for starter and fillet of hake fish on a bed of chorizo, chickpeas, etc for mains. My companion had crab spring rolls and fillet steak which were succulent. The dessert, a warm chocolate fondant with baileys panna cotta and orange icecream in a brandy basket were sublime. I was amazed at how professional the service was with only one member to the waiting staff, discreet and timely. An excellent meal and incredible value at E100.00 for 5 and 4 courses respectively and a bottle of wine. We will be back!!!

The Wooden Spoon Killaloe
Bridge Street, Killaloe, Clare

This is a slice of the Continent with freshly baked breads, pastries and home cooking. The lunch options here are tasty and varied. I had the seafood chowder served with homemade brown bread and quinoa stuffed peppers with 3 salads, all for Euros 15. Excellent. The choice of sweet fayre is amazing in particular the butterscotch, apple and granola bake. The portions are large so be prepared. Well worth a stop off.

Cinnamon Alley Cafe
Hanley's Place, Sarsfield Street, Nenagh, Tipperary

I have been meaning to add my thoughts on this cafe. This is one of the best cafe I have ever been in. I just love the brightness of the place, the number of freshly prepared daily dishes & the mouth watering salads. The daily soup here is consistently of a high standard & served with brown bread made on the premises. I would definitely agree with an earlier contributor with regard to desserts & this is due to the French chef & also the owner - dessert menu to die for & generous portions from the long list. Try the honey & nut scones with good coffee there & you will want the recipe.

Wood Brothers Bistro
Main Street, Killaloe, Clare

Took my Mum here for lunch & we really enjoyed the experience. We headed in around lunch time & the place was busy with families & tables of twos. While there were only 2 serving staff they were efficient & kept on their toes. We both ordered the goats cheese salad & while we were waiting, a lovely basket of bread was delivered to our table along with glasses of water. The service was friendly. Our food was very good, nicely presented & tasty. As we chatted too long over our mains, there was little choice left for lunch so we just had coffees. I would definitely recommend the place for lunch in particular families as the place is spacious & bright with good food served.

27 Church Street - Closed
27 Church Street , Killaloe, Clare

This is a great restaurant in Killaloe, Co Clare. A real gem & great local fresh ingredients used in a varied menu. They have themed nights i.e. seafood platter night, schnitzel night, pie night & early birds. You are just as welcome whether you come in for a 3/4 course meal or a main course & glass of wine. Excellent personal service & always a smile. We most recently took a visiting friend there for the Tuesday night schnitzel & we all enjoyed a great meal. It was so tasty, beautifully presented and good sized portions. The atmosphere is convivial, friendly and inviting.

Seagrass of Portobello Bridge
30 South Richmond Street, Dublin 8, Portobello, Dublin

Ate here last weekend based on reviews and were delighted with the evening. As soon as we entered we were acknowledged even though the restaurant was busy, nice gesture. The service was professional, efficient & friendly. Only 2 busy waiting staff but on the ball all the time. The food was great - the Cajun fish soup was so velvety & the portion of squid, red pepper & chilli risotto for starter was large. We had a fight over the traditional, undyed smoked haddock, pea & chive risotto, it was so right. The spaghetti with mussels in white wine sauce was large, filling & tasty. We were too full for desserts but had coffees. All in all an excellent meal at great value & would highly recommend a visit.
