This was as much a hit as a miss. As you enter first impressions are good, yes it's above a pub but it looks great. Starters, the mushrooms in blue cheese was the best of a bad lot, the root vegetable soup was so disappointing and tasted of nothing but cumin, cumin and more cumin. The duck terrine was tastless, and completely lacked seasoning. Dinners were similar, no complaints about the roasted cod but the pork belly, although tasty, was extremely small. The beef and Guinness pie was ok - if handed up in a pub but this is a restaurnat. The meat was tough, it lacked any taste of it being an oven meal - it also lacked in overall taste. The heaped salad leaves served with the pie were an unusual choice for this dish, and didnt work. The fact one of us asked to swap the leaves for potatoes but that request was ignored was a bit annoying. An extra portion of Gratin potatoes was embarrassingly small, but their chips were good. Desserts, well we sent the bread and butter pudding straight back it was really awful. The berry crumble and lemon posset were lovely. The ambience was ruined by the really loud music, the type you'd expect in a busy pub. By dinner we'd asked for it to be lowered or changed, it was lowered, briefly. They really need to figure out if they want to be a good restaurant or provide good pub food - at the moment they are neither. We wont be rushing back...
