With two friends we tried out this bustling restaurant in the middle of the village of Baltinglass. It was Sunday lunchtime, and the place was really humming, full of go, as well as full of customers, which is always a good sign. We were greeted by a charming manageress, and were served by her equally charming and helpful staff, the food was excellent and the general atmosphere was one of bright cheerfulness. I should say also that one of our party was in a wheelchair, and everything possible was done to facilitate her. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Germaines, and the only criticism we had was that the place was at times very noisy.

We stopped off here for dinner. It was 18.00 and the romantic style restaurant was empty . We chose to sit outside in the beer garden which was in full sun and very warm. We shared a starter ,BBQ Chicken wings served on a nice salad served in a crispy tortilla. I had a lamb steak served with Baked potatoe, salad, mushrooms, onions with mint and pepper sauce on the side! V Nice. My wife had lasagne served with garlic bread, chipper style chips and side salad. it was very nice and I would recommend this place for value and high quality.

Steak on a hot plate was amazing. You will not leave this place hungry. We visited at a peak time and it got quite busy. But food was delivered prompt and well presented. Staff were friendly. Well worth a visit if passing through.

Had heard from a friend that we had to try the steak on a lava plate so went in to try one Friday night. Possibly the best steak I ever had, highly recommend it to everyone! Just a great idea and a delicious piece of steak too!

My family organised a surprise Birthday meal for me in Germaines last Saturday night. I have eaten there a few times before, but my last trip really impressed me. The staff made a huge fuss of me. Even though we were a small party of 6, balloons were placed on the table and the desert had a candle in it (at the request of my children). The whole evening was just lovely. Its a great alternative to some of the more expensive restaurants in Dublin, the food was just as good! A really good spot.

Just found a wonderful place to eat. A visit to Germaines Restaurant was a wonderful experience. The food was great and the staff so friendly and helpful. We arrived there tired and hungry after a day in Glendalough. We had a wonderful steak meal, in fact the best we ever had. There was a wonderful atmosphere and the restaurant was very busy.We will be back

Beyond dire, apart from the fairly friendly and efficient service. Irish “cooking” by numbers, far worse than bog standard. The meal started with vegetable soup which I think did indeed start its life as a basket of vegetables. Then came turkey and ham. A wafer thin slice of commercial ham, on top of which lay a blob of Paxo stuffing, topped with 2 slices of dry turkey. This was all covered in brown goo which came from a packet. Vegetables: overcooked cauliflower with white goo from a packet, asparagus and carrots cooked to oblivion, and the best part, mashed potato, two boiled new potatoes and one roast potato. The waitress then came round with a huge tray with loads of extra blobs of mash potato, just in case we hadn’t already eaten enough potatoes. Apple pie to finish. A huge slice of pie full of pie filling from a jar. I was with a group and I can't even bring myself to imagine what they thought of it.

Upon entering and sitting down we sat and watched as the waitress served 3 other families that came in after us. She did not even bother to come and see if she could serve us in anyway. I then went to the carvery and asked if I could get a bowl of warm water to heat the babies bottle and was given a dirty teapot with hot water that you couldn't even fit a baby bottle into. As the situation went from bad to worse I called the manager over to express my feelings about the service and asked why we would be treated this way, he just laughed and said he knew the waitress for a long time and she probably had her reasons for not coming over to serve us and with that he walked away chuckling without even the smallest apology. I have never in my life experienced this kind of service in a restaurant anywhere in the world.

I always try to find something good in every situation, but unfortunately there was nothing good about my experience at Germaine’s recently. It was busy with a lot of families celebrating communions, so there were many young noisy children running around. It is an old fashioned carvery, with fayre options and portion sizes that are no doubt adding to the increasing overweight problem in this country. Turkey & Ham was on offer, I asked for turkey alone but was told they couldn’t separate it. As I don’t red meat. There was some soggy southern fried chicken and very greasy salmon available – neither was appealing looking. No vegetarian options other than a plate of vegetables. I opted for veggies and got a plate with 3 scoops mash potatoes, some carrots and cabbage for Eur6. My partner had the same with some well cooked beef which looked very dry but he said tasted fine. There is a menu on the tables with offering ‘homemade’ desserts which is served by the waitresses. We opted for deep dish apple pie. It took 15 minutes to arrive. It was commercially made, filled with artificial apples and served with strawberry ice cream. I thought that the Celtic Tiger had gotten rid of this type of food – I guess not. There are no hooks in the ladies toilets on which to hang a bag/coat.
