Having read the previous review I wonder if the reviewer was in the same place? The food and service in McDaniels is of excellent quality. Having eaten there on numerous occasions and witnessed hundreds of happy customers sending back clean plates, and the staff are courteous and efficient. Maybe the reviewer should not order food and then not be there to eat it, and blaming everyone but themselves for the resulting confusion. Did he really fight with a cat over cream?? What kind of person writes such nonsense? Maybe he should stay away for another 30 years,...

What a hidden gem in little brittas bay. The place may look like your typical country side pub, but the food inside is far from average. Went to the beach with the girlfriend for the day, and needed a place to grab a bite before driving back to dublin. We decided to give the tavern a try, and were pleas-antly surprised. Both of us had the stake, and at €14.95, who wouldn’t. The portion was generous, the service was pleasant and all the food tasted fresh and home-made. However, my favourite part was the coffee, glad to finally drink a decent cup of coffee outside the capital city for once. Really glad we gave it a try, and look forward to visiting again soon.

Since March I have eaten in McDaniel’s on several occasions. In particular I have enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the absence of drunk punters who you would expect in places like this. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of families and young people frequenting this place. Furthermore I was pleasantly surprised by the restaurant situated behind the lounge bar. The set up is rustic but classy, service is helpful and accommodating, and every meal I had was delicious. The menu might seem basic but the daily specials offer lots of variety. Food was presented well, portions extremely generous and prices highly competitive. I particularly enjoyed the coffee ( Lavazza!) to finish off my meal. Highly recommendable!!

My husband and I drove down from Dublin for stroll on the beach on Sunday and decided to grab a late lunch at the local pub. We were surprised to find that behind the plain front of McDaniel's there was actually a lovely restaurant in the back. The bar menu was what you would expect from a bar menu, but the daily specials were of great quality. We both had the salmon and prawn mousse to start with, and as mains my husband had the lamb shank with rosemary stuffing and I had the pork medallions. The food was well presented and came with fresh breads. The lamb shanks were delicious and perfectly cooked, the meat fell off the bone, and the medallions came in a lovely honey and mustard sauce. The staff was helpful and prompt. We both could not manage any desserts but had a lovely coffee which is unusual for a place like this. We are due to go on a family holiday in the vicinity and will certainly return their in summer with our children as it seemed like the sort of place you would be comfortable taking your children to.

Have been visiting Mcdaniels pub for 30 years now with our family & friends. What has happened to it this year?? We called in as a group and ordered from a basic bar menu in the restaurant area. Food was hot and presented OK. Service was non friendly. Staff were not at all helpfull and did not smile or make us feel welcome. We were the only people there. Where are all our lovley local characters gone that we loved to chat with and catch up with? So dissapointed.Food was just OK, Bar man was not friendly at all so we left after our bar food dinner.

Restaurant response:
1 Review makes it difficult to believe this is no more than a grudge. Sad to see people using a site like this to appease their grudges.

We popped in on the way back from Brittas Bay. It was a quick bit to eat, that turned out to be a real treat. It was very nice food, reasonably priced. It was quite empty, such a pity as it's a lovely place. I'll be going again.

Visited on Sunday for a very quick lunch. Excellent value, great service, lovely welcoming atmosphere. Impressed that while most places hike up the prices for mothers day, McDaniel's offered a 2 course special all day for €16.95. Great choices of all courses, nothing I wouldn't eat. Such a treat to sit out in the sun and enjoy good homemade food at a great price. The new manager is doing a great job! Will most definately return!

You get what you see in McDaniels so dont expect much and you will not be disappointed, however the quality of the food this year was better than previous years. You can eat the same menu in the bar or a very nice restuarant they have in the back. The price point was good with a steak at €14.95 and most mains the same price. Great for a family and decent bistro food served hot with decent chips. You can't expect more from a place that only gets business in the summer. So well done for this year.

Always liked McDaniels in the past to drop in to after a walk but seems a lot of changes this year. There was no atmosphere, no friendly welcome and very quiet such a shame. The food was good bar food. Well presented and good value but we didn't stay on after food due to lack of atmosphere and interaction with staff.

I stayed for seven nights with my family by way of a pre-Christmas break last week and I cannot recommend the place highly enough. The new innkeepers (we were told it was their first Month in charge) could not have been more hospitable and the food was too superb. Add to this the fabulous scenery and local hospitality and it makes for a first class break. Hoping to return in the summer and witness this jewel with the added bonus of the sun.

The Back Bar with its roaring welcoming fire is a lovely setting for an evening meal. No TV to interrupt your conversation and very friendly service. Apart from their published menu, they also have daily specials. I had one of the specials - the most delicious, large, beautifully cooked Lobster which still makes my mouth water when I think of it. The Chef had cracked the claws so no hard work involved in order to eat it. My husband had the T-Bone Steak which was cooked to perfection and full of flavour. The Chef came out to check if everything was as it should be. We can't wait to go back.
