What a little hidden gem of a place!! I went here some Sunday's ago with a small group for Sunday lunch on a recommendation from a friend. The food was amazing and great value, the staff were very friendly. Since then I have become an almost regular and have sampled various elements of the menu. The brownies are a must!

I also had a very negative experience here - basically the staff did not want to know - the food was cold and slapped up - definitely not worth the price I paid. I will not be going back again. I think I will leave it at that and not delve any further in my review.

Arrived here just before 4.30 and walked to the counter this is where it all started to go downhill... the guy did not even speak, just stood there.... (there was not any chance of a smile breaking out either) then after a few moments of me not speaking either he used the phrase i hate in any restaurant/coffee shop...."are you ok?" ....what ever happened to, hello, how are you, what can i get for you?.... i always feel like saying, i will be ok when you ask me what i would like.... i got my coffee and cake delivered to my table again without a word and within minutes the music was switched off and the door bolted...... there were still about 20-25 minutes to go before the place closed but i was already feeling uncomfortable now. I don know or care if the place is good during the day, if i am served in a place i then dont want to be put under pressure to finish up and leave. if 5 is last orders then you should not be made feel as if your holding the staff up half an hour before that... very disapointed

Would like to see more wheat free options as I can vouch that the gluten free shortbread is delicous! The menu is well priced making the Buttery a pleasant venue for coffee or hot chocolate and something sweet.

I often drop in here on the weekend for a bowl of soup or a coffee. The atmosphere has much improved here since it was recently refurbished. The soup is always really good and I love the chocolate brownies! Would love to try one of their dinners, they look delicious!!

We had lunch in the Buttery on Saturday. The hunk had pate followed by smoked chicken and blue cheese quiche (yes real men do eat quiche and he said both were delicious)and I had the home made soup and the stuffed breast of chicken - both really good and very well presented with tasty colourful salad. We then shared the hazelnut and toffee meringue mmmmmmm!!. This is definitely the place to go for the excellent food, friendly staff and, if you can persuade your man, shopping too. What more could you ask.

What a find.. you would never have known such a place existed in Newtownmountkennedy, in a Clothes Shop of all places...lots to choose from, the menu seems to change every day. I had the Cottage Pie, my girl- friend had a chicken breast stuffed with apricots and cream cheese with a large selection of salads.(delicious). At first I thought it was quite Avoca, it is a bit, but the main courses are much different less of the 'stew, and more emphasis on individual dishes. No leg cramping Q's, good & informed service.
