The Blue Fin Seafood Grill in Wicklow Town is fast becoming our favourite restaurant. The Valentines Special included a three-course dinner and a bottle of wine per couple for €50.00. At this price, we were impressed with the choice available. I had the smoked salmon and herby potato salad and my partner had the cheese stuffed muchrooms for starters. For the mains I had lemon sole wrapped around spinach mousse with an impressive array of colourful vegetables. Not only was it a work of art to look at, but it tasted amazing! My partner had the steak and mushrooms. He reported that it was the best steak he had in years. For dessert I had the poached pear in shiraz, while my partner had the chocolate truffle gateaux. All food was delicious, the staff were attentive to our every need and the diningroom was very comfortable with candles and plenty of space between tables.

Having been to this restaurant when it was under former management I was quite curious as to what changes had been made. Although initially concerned by the fact that there was only one other couple dining when we entered, I was pleasantly surprised by the rebranding (inc new name) and new focus on seafood (formerly Italian, despite the fact that this coastal town has other Italian restaurants yet no seafood restaurant, so a good move!). The service was professional yet subtle and attentive, with our waitress, Raminta, surprisingly familiar with the ingredients of every item we selected from the menu! The fillet of beef was promoted as being a speciality from a local butcher and it lived up to its promotion (even though I had initially intended on sampling the seafood!), beautifully seasoned/cooked (M/Rare). In conclusion, this restaurant has clearly benefitted from its reincorporation into the hotel and experienced staff and with a seafood focused menu, albeit with the 'safe' options of chicken and beef, I feel it was long overdue in Wicklow Town. Looking forward to my return.

Had a lovely meal in the Blue Fin, started with the stuffed mushrooms which came with a lovely salad and dressing, followed by roasted vegetable & morzarella salad which was lovely, friend had the burger which she loved. Generous glasses of wine topped it off ! lovely meal, will be back, pity we were the only people in the restaurant tho !
