It was… OK. A warm, cozy atmosphere set inside a gorgeous hotel. The staff were friendly and professional. The menu was widely varied and had something for everyone on it. But the execution left me unimpressed. When I see a classic dish like seafood Mornay on the menu I immediately go for it and my son had the same. It was packed with a generous portion of excellent, fresh fish but the Mornay sauce, while tasty, was very thin and not the rich, cheesy sauce I’d known from other chefs. The end result was basically a golden-crusted bowl of very good seafood chowder that I would not have described as a Mornay if it was put in front of me without ordering it. To make matters worse, it was offered with a choice of potato and even having ordered the au gratin at quarter to six in the afternoon, by the time our entrées arrived they were sold out and instead I was given a bowl of greasy, half cooked and completely inedible chips. Our server was very attentive and quite nice but while taking our dessert orders I asked her what the dish was I’d seen coming out of the kitchen that looked like profiteroles in a parfait glass. What she brought back was the brownie sundae from the children’s menu and I am always suspect of a wait staff that does not know their menu backward and forward. Growing up in the F&B industry, I can tell you it’s not the server’s fault, it’s management that has not provided the proper training to insist wait staff be fully versed in their product. In summary, if we were actually staying at the hotel and had dinner I’d probably have been happier with the experience but we specifically went for a family dinner and frankly, I wouldn’t go back again unless I had to. And I’d probably order the salmon en croute instead.

I ate in the Alamo with my partner and kids for dinner. Restaurant had a nice atmosphere on entering and as it was mid-term, the restaurant was full. The menu has plenty of choices, with good options for the kids. Our food was very tasty with good sized portions. Service was very good with the waiting staff being very pleasant, even though they were very busy with a full restaurant. My only complaint would be that when our bill came, even though we had paid for 2 meals as part of our stay. The cost wasn't discounted from the bill and we had to ask the waitress to have this taken off. This took a while to get it sorted. Overall the food was nice, if a little expensive.

Had heard great things about The Alamo. A lovely Interior & very pleasant staff but the food was a real let down. The starter arrived cold in a roasting hot bowl. The mains, I had chicken & my husband a beef burger, were very greasy & the beef was grizzly. Very disappointed for a grill/ steakhouse Restaurant.

We were staying in the hotel and as part of our package it included dinner here. nnWe arrived and were seated (not really greeted) asked if we needed a high chair then left for about 10 mins. nnWe ordered a bottle of white wine for €21 and were told it was on the shelf so would need to be chilled, which was fine but when they did bring it to us it was still warm and we ended up having to put ice in it. nnWe were not told until arrival that it was a set menu. nnIn my opinion it did not have a good variety. nnI has tomatoe and basil soup to start which was very bland. The bread that came with it was lovely. nnMy husband had the scampi which he said was nice. nnWe both opted for the steak which came out presented very well but was a very thin piece of steak. Overall it was nice but nothing that would make you order it again. nnFor dessert I ordered the after eight that had a great description but when it came out it was essentially just scoops of mint and scoops of vanilla ice-cream with a biscuit. nnI don't think I would attend this restaurant again. n

Restaurant was quite busy for a Monday night I expect at lot of people on holidays . The decor has changed since I last visited here and unfortunately ,although fresh and almost french in style I preferred the more authentic Mexican feel of old. Apart from that the menu looks pretty much the same with a huge selection to choose from, very hard to make a choice with such tempting options on offer! Well from previous experience I knew that if I had a starter I wouldn't be able for the main and was I right ! Daughter had the nachos with beef and it was very generous indeed. Hubby had the mushrooms , again loads and very tasty both of them as I couldn't resist picking at them! For mains I had the tagliatelle with salmon , very tasty. Hubby had the Ranch burger , he enjoyed that. The daughter had the fajita Magdelena and all of these orders came with sides too of chips wedges rice or salad . We were stuffed , so much so, that we couldn't finish it all and I brought what I could home with me ! The wine list too is extensive and the staff were very polite and friendly. Definitely will return but on a very empty stomach!

We were seated ina rather dark corner of the restauraunt upon arrival. I understand what they are trying to do in terms of asthetics and all that but when you cant really see what your eating its kind of annoying. I went for the mushrooms and the spare ribs amd my friend went for the lasagne and nachos. The portions are massive for both starters and mains. Food was nice but quite rich in terms of the sauces they use. I went for the side of mash potatoes and vegetable which in all honesty was some of the best mash potatoes I have ever had. The Bill came to around €22 (without drinks) which is great value for the quantity of food recieved. Nice restauranunt and the staff friendly

We were staying in the hotel and had a meal for the adults included as part of the package. I can easily say this was one of the worst meals we have ever had. We had the mushrooms for starters which were clearly shop bought and totally tasteless. Fajitas were ok for mains but again not overly flavoursome. My hubbie had the surf n turf and the steak was ok but it only came with 3 miserable looking prawns. BBQ sauce was brought instead of the pepper sauce ordered. One of my children had ordered the pizza which was one of the value type pizza's you buy in one of the supermarkets, he wouldn't eat it. The kids ordered ice cream but we passed, not wanting to pay for any more sub standard food. The ice cream was full of ice and the kids wouldn't eat it. Total price was €94 which was extortionate for the quality of the food we received. Service was also pretty poor, while there was a lot of staff on, the restaurant was very busy and they clearly weren't able to cope. I wouldn't recommend anyone to eat here and the management have a lot to do to bring this restaurant back to the standards of a few years ago. A really awful experience.

Restaurant response:
Dear sr foodie, Thank you for taking the time to post your review on your recent experience in The Alamo Restaurant. I was very surprised to read that your experience in The Alamo Restaurant did not meet your expectations and were certainly not exceeded. We find we receive very favourable reviews and feedback from our customers in regards to this Dining outlet in the hotel. I am ensuring that your feedback is followed up internally, regarding the points you made and we have already taken on board your comments regarding the Children’s Pizza and have changed suppliers and can personally say that they are now as good as any pizza chain. As a standard our Surf n Turf is served with more than 3 King Size Prawns so I can only say it must have been an oversight on this occasion and I apologise for that. I sincerely hope you will come back to dine with us in the near future and give us an opportunity to make up for this disappointing experience. Please feel free to contact me directly if you would like to discuss any of your issues further or indeed if I can assist you with your next booking. Many Thanks Sharon Carroll Sales & Marketing Manager

Went on Saturday night when we arrived we were seated at an extremely dark corner of the resturant Service was very quick I had nachos followed by chicken fajitas.Nachos were gorgeous huge portion but too much for a starter.Fajitas were nice enough very tender but have to agree with the other review here it was very greasy. My partner had mushrooms for starter and burger for main course and he loved them. Meal came to 40 euro which I thought was reasonable especially for the size of the portions we couldnt finish them! Would be back but maybe not order the fajitas.

Restaurant response:
Dear Louise5754 Thank you so much for posting your complimentary review for The Alamo Restaurant. I have communicated your issue regarding the fajitas to both our Head Chef & Restaurant Supervisor and in turn will be strictly monitored. We are regular visitors to this tex mex restaurant. The staff are always friendly and welcoming and have a good knowledge of the menu. Varied menu offered with something to suit all tastes. Portions are generous too. Have tried most of it at this stage and have not been disappointed. Highly recommended.

I agree with the last reviewer. Im a big fan of Mexican food and was hoping this place would be my 'New Favourite Restaurant'. That didnt happen. We had booked a table but were left standing for about ten mins before anyone even greeted us. We felt like they would prefer if we turned around and walked out the door. Its understandable that there would be delays if they were v busy but we were ignored. Once we got to the table, we ordered and the drinks were delivered after the food. My sisters meal wasnt correct and by the time we finally gestured a waitress over, the rest of us had eaten. Food is fine. Big portions alright but nothing to write home about. My sister didnt have a good dining experience there and wont be back, I dont think we will either.

I cannot believe people like coming here. I have been a few times as I believe in giving a place a chance, but the food is mediocre at best and the service is very very poor. Your food is thrown at you and there is just a bad atomsphere throughout. I am relatively local to the area and would not recommend to anyone who enjoys the dining experience

The Alamo is a very customer friendly restaurant. The staff we encountered on our visit were most helpful and accommodating. We were seated quickly and or order was taken very promptly. The food when it arrived was excellent and very hot and tasty. Mains like wise were excellent. However I would advise going there hungry as their portions are very generous. Overall good food and good value. A must when in enniscorthy.
