Kelly's Resort Hotel - La Marine Bistro & Bar restaurant
Rosslare Strand, Rosslare
Over the years Kelly's Resort Hotel has built up a strong relationship with local Wexford suppliers and in recent times have worked with a large range of artisan producers, thus enabling us to source most of our produce locally with a wonderful selection of farmhouse cheeses, vegetables, lamb, beef, smoked meats and seafood from Kilmore Quay, all of which are prepared or butchered in-house.

Quick afternoon snack. Excellent crab claws. Not so impressed by the staff vacuum cleaning around us. Very unprofessional.

Kelly's resort was the last resort for us in terms of availability at 8:30 on a friday evening. Had to commend the way we were accommodated without a booking in a surprisingly very full restaurant. However, after ordering from a quentionably priced €45 set menu, we were served our starters within about 3 minutes - worrying. All downhill from there in terms of the quality of the food unfortunately. Would not return.

Nice homely type food, although certainly a long way from top dining, again for the type of money your paying here you really do expect a lot more, service is poor 'headless chickens come to mind' great atmosphere but would be reluctant to try again.

Huge disappointment. I had gone to La Marine (the bistro) on what I had read here. I booked dinner for two at 19:00. 3 people came up to us before we were ready to even look at a menu (about 5 minutes of chatting) asking if we were ready to order our food. This was to be the theme until we actually needed some attention which leads me to the major complaint of the evening: Our order was taken at 19:10. By 19:50 they had served all three courses and cleared away! We were not made to feel comfortable or settled. I understand two sittings but the next sitting was not until 21:00! We had to wait 20 minutes after getting the bill for someone to come over with the card machine. This may not seem like a long time but remember: that is half the time they took to feed us. The wine was overpriced for a particularly tart Syrah. A bad wine worsened by the fact that it was served too cold. The glasses of Cremant we had before our starter were rather chemical resulting in unpleasantly sharp flavours. Actually this is worth repeating: We ordered food and wine at ten past seven, including the glass of cremant (that was not an aperitif seeing as the starters hit the table halfway through) and it took 40 mins to bring matters to a close. I would not recommend this place for a couple. I would not recommend it for people who want to take the full two hours before the next sitting or enjoy their food. I would especially not recommend it for the food! the crab meat was pulverised to resemble sausage filling – very unappealing; salads from starters being transferred to mains – lazy cooking; dull 'new season' asparagus – why a blowtorch was passed over the insipid hollandaise remains a mystery (as to the addition of orange pieces? Pointless at best! The asparagus was also burned and chopped too small). Avoid if at all possible.

We went to kellys last week after visiting wexford to go to the cookery school at phelim byrnes cookery academy on the rosslare side of wexford town, after a truly fantastic day we were too full and had no plans to eat out and asked where could we be recomended to, in fairness we were given lots of choice depending what we were looking for but reckoned on high recomendations that kellys suited what we were looking for this time around, ended up in the bistro that night and main dining room to try it out next day, the reports are true , fantastic hotel, such a buzz, great foodie place and as we had been pre warned the staff are second to none, thanks to all in wexford once again!!!

Was in both La Marine & the Dining Room recently in Kelly's. The former was very good especially the scallops & a nice cheese board too. The Dining room was a let down and service was very slow - be prepared to fight your way through the hoards of legal eagles in August. A hotel that has (& will always) attract the crowds.

We visited La Marine Restaurant last week for my birthday, the menu sounded very nice indeed, unfortunately it was not as good as it could have been. I ordered the monkfish goujons for starters, they were awful, it could have been any fish at all and it was dripping with grease - straight out of the deep fat fryer. My husbands started was a special that day and was very tasty. For mains I ordered the plaice which was quite bland, my husband ordered the lobster tagliatelle which again, was bland and very very dry, he did however enjoy my plaice. For desert, we shared the banana and pecan pudding, that was amazing, I was sorry I hadn't ordered it all to myself! On the up side, the service was fantastic and the place is very busy so maybe we were just unlucky that evening. I will probably have one more go seeing as there are very few places to eat in Rosslare.

It was our first time to Rosslare and we were surprised at the lack of restaurants (and we drove around looking for them). We came across La Marine Bistro and just from the look of it, we hoped we get a table at short notice - we did and were delighted as we had an enjoyable meal. Since we were by the sea we opted for the seafood meals, of course! I had scallops and they were divine. Restaurant is casual and decorated very nicely. It is a bit noisy, but that's just the relaxed atomsphere and everyone conversing - which is great when children are dining with you - you don't have to try and keep them quiet for the entire meal. We would definitely return if in the area - and would probably even stay at Kelly's Resort if we did go back as it seems like a great place.

The great institution that is Kelly's Hotel never ceases to please. I have eaten here on many occasions and am still amazed at the beautiful surroundings and the suberb, personal service. The large formal Beaches dining room suits the more mature age groups and families and some could find it to be a little stuffy or old fashioned. The bistro has a younger and slightly noisier clientele. The menu naturally features the excellent local fish. The accompanying sauces and vegetables are never exotic but always well prepared. Desserts are a highlight and worth leaving a little space for. Afterwards burn off the calories with a walk on the beach which is just outside the back door.
