Just had a lovely evening meal , served in the lounge... the Black pudding starter and the potato and onion soup were perfect starters. We had small mixed seafood platter and the hake and chips for main courses... both were excellent.. The service was courteous and unobtrusive...

A wonderful welcome and a seat overlooking the lake as requested in my reservation. Perfect. We both ordered the steak, one fillet and one rib eye. They were cooked as requested and the quality of the meat was consistently good and it remains the nicest steak I have tasted for many years. The peppercorn sauce had the heat of the pepper but not overpowering. Delicious. The hand-cut chips did appear less crisp than last time however they tasted really good. The buttered carrots were cooked to perfection however the beer battered onion rings were a little on the oily side for me. They were crisp when cut but just a bit too much oil had been retained in bubbles within the batter. The Strawberry and lime drink and the craft beer (Poachers ale) were very nice however €6.95 for the one bottle of beer seemed steep. As we don't drink often perhaps this is just the price of a craft beer! On the aspect of value for money, personally I think the steak supplement is not necessary on the bill as a separate item and I was quiet happy to pay for the steak as an overall price as it is excellent quality. One price should be on the menu and one on the bill per item. Overall the meal was delicious, well presented, hot when it came to the table and we did not have to wait too long once we had ordered. All the staff and management were warm, attentive and welcoming. I would recommend the Wineport to all my friends and colleagues for a peaceful evening, wonderful ambiance, comfortable seating, excellent food and service and a haven from busy lives. Here you can stop ......take a breath and relax for a while overlooking a calm lake............Lovely........we would like to make it a regular date night......thank you.

I could not recommend this restaurant highly enough! The food was outstanding, the ambiance created by the decor and placement of the restaurant was spectacular and the service was prompt, courteous and came with a smile! This was a dining experience. It had it all..... and ticked all the boxes. We felt welcomed and at ease and the final flourish of understated good taste were the Birthday balloons and messages on the table and on the desert plates (with candles)! Better than any restaurant I have been in for the last 10 years! Well done! I have requested a booking again today as I have a special lunch for my mother, daughter and friend. Without a doubt a memorable meal in the perfect location.

Dined here on Tuesday evening and arrived with no reservation. We were warmly welcomed at reception by the Hotel Manager and escorted swiftly without a moments hesitation to a window table facing the lough. Having had a late lunch we had both decided to have just a main course and were really hard pushed to decide from a fantastic array of beautiful dishes available. The service from start to finish by Wanda was both attentive, friendly and professional. We each chose a beef cut, I had Rib-Eye and my partner the T-bone. Both were ordered medium rare and we also asked for sauces on the side and if it would be possible to have some fries other than thick or medium cut. A surprise amuse arrived of leek veloute with truffle oil along with delicious bread and good butter. We selected an Argentine Cabernet from Luigi Bosca which really opened up well but I would prefer it decanted next time. Our mains were the best either of us has had this year. The beef was cooked perfectly, served on wooden boards with proper steak knives, excellent sauces and butters on the side and the most delicious lightly dressed rocket to garnish. Our off-menu request for thin chips was duly granted and obviously hand created especially for our table, sincere thanks to the kitchen team as they were fabulous. On a Tuesday night in November neither of us expected the dining room to be so busy but we were delighted to see it so and the atmosphere was perfect. We had a fine selection of Irish cheese to finish and if I was to be critical of one aspect I would suggest a choice of crackers as not everyone likes the charcoal variety. We will be back and the sooner we can make it the better, the best dining experience this year.

I booked the Wineport for our Mum,s 90th birthday, I had heard many excellent reports with regard to the food and the spectacular surroundings. I can truly say we were not disappointed. As a party of 16 adults and 4 children it can be difficult to meet the needs of all, however the Wineport went out of their way to supply 3 special requested main's due to some people with special dietary requirements. The quality of the food was excellent, the staff were very efficient and helpful. The relaxing surroundings both indoors and outdoors was outstanding. I would say if you have not tried out this beautiful restaurant yet, then put a date into your diary and head off soon.

Stopped in here on the way home and decided to eat in the bar rather than the restaurant. Beautiful views of the lake. Salmon and the beef burger were ordered. Both were very tasty. The burger came in a brown bap which was so fresh that it crumbled all over the place! It was served on a small wooden board, so there wasn’t much room to manoeuvre! The burger was delicious. My companion though the salmon was excellent. There didn’t appear to be a whole lot of it, but what there was tasted good. It was a little pricey – 18.50 for the burger. The surroundings are beautiful though.

My husband and I stayed here for our wedding anniversary. Having been here before, we decided it would be a lovely setting for dinner for this special occasion and we weren't disappointed. I had a risotto starter while he ate pate. Both were fantastic and we really enjoyed them. The lure of steak was too much to resist so it's what we both had, accompanied by a lovely selection of veg and potatoes. A lovely bottle of red complemented everything really well and a nice creme brulee dessert was sublime. The really lovely part is being able to retire to the cosy bar afterwards for brandy and baileys beside the fire. A lovely experience and I look forward to our next visit - we've already given vouchers to two other couples!

I'd say the most beatiful restaurant setting in the whole country, at least that I have been to, on the shores of Lough Ree, timber decking, picture windows, ducks at our feet on the way in waddling around, boats passing in the drawing dusk. Food is good, not exceptional, I had a spiced lamb with pomegranate couscous to start, then 4 large grilled prawns with tomatoes, rocket, chorizo (kind of Mozambique style), nice baby spuds that had been sauteed off in butter after boiling. Herself had mussels in white wine and cream, and then seabass, portion a little small on the fish but nicely cooked. A nice zingy SB (Hunky Dory Marlborough, NZ) and coffees, all in E110. Nice, attentive and pleasant service, and the main dining room was nice (we ate outside). Excellent coffee. You could spend many happy hours here eating anything at all.

I had heard great things about the Wineport from firends and family and was really interested to go myself. Myself and partner were on way back from Galway and dropped in to make a reservation to stay at lodge and have a meal. We were told that we had to book for two nights. The girl at reception was very crisp and not one bit friendly. My partner said oh we will book another later in the year. To which the receptionist replied ' you have to take the two night deal all year around' we felt forced into something we really didnt want but we booked it. A few days later we canceled as they wanted to charge us 375euro each for two nights accomodation, one dinner and two breakfasts. We decided to go for Sunday lunch instead with family. We arrived down on the wettest most miserable day ever. The girl at reception was most unfriendly and snapped at my dad 'do you have a reservation!" we then tried to find the door of the restaurant while she offered no help at all to show us the way. In fact we ended up going out in the room looking for the entrance of the restaurant only to find that it was opposite where she was sitting. In the restaurant the staff couldnt have been nicer we were welcomed (at last!) and our order was taken. I found over all that food was good. I had duck confit to start, truly lovely. The main of seabass was quite disappointing and not warm enough and the portion was very small. The dessert of baked alaska was also very good. The Wineport is in the most beautiful setting and food is good but not sure if I'd travel from Dublin to go there again.

A fantastic meal had by our party of 4 on Saturday night in the Wineport Lodge. We were welcomed at the door and our coats taken, we sat at a very comfortable table in an atmospheric and nicely lit room. The music was a little strange, rock and pop, I would have expected something more relaxing. Bread was brought to the table, not a large amount but it was homemade and very nice. An amuse bouche - soup was really lovely and as one of our party was having soup as his starter he was kindly offered a different amuse bouche. All starters were great, really nicely presented and good size portions - salad, soup, ribs and chicken. Main courses were reasonably sized and the combinations of flavours were really well thought out. A side of potatoes was brought for the table also. The menu offered a vegetarian selection and my choice was imaginative and really tasty - Aubergine Snitzel with Haloumi cheese, capers and salad. The others had sea bass, chicken and steak, all were delicious. Desserts were not as spectacular as the rest of the food, these included the chocolate plate and ice cream. Staff were very pleasant, sometimes overly so. All in all it was a great meal, a very relaxing experience and note to all - they provide a complimentary taxi service to partrons in the Athlone area - added value - I'll be dreaming of my next visit!
