A dining experience in a 150 year old church!
Set in a building with a beautiful history as a Presbyterian church. The Locke Restaurant, open on The Docks in Athlone since 2012, is a new incarnation of a much loved, local favourite, restaurant.
Originally the well-known Le Cheateau Restaurant, a busy, successful restaurant for many years, that original much-loved restaurant has now been restored and tastefully brought back to life, designed by the new proprietors, which includes the main restaurant being fully restored on the second level of this dramatic and stunning building.
The core of The Locke Restaurant is the second level with its high church beamed ceilings, warm, atmospheric lighting, panelling and rich carpet and. A cosy snug bar at the down stairs has a dramatic feel about it, with a gorgeous 120 year old piano as its main feature, which is not just an ornament. There is live, nightly piano and harp sessions.

We had Sunday dinner here for Mother's day and had a lovely time. The food was delicious - the pork belly was amazing as was the seafood. We all really enjoyed it. The vegetables were freshly cooked and just fab. We had starters and desserts also and everthing was great-portion sizes were more than generous. The restaurant is a former church and so has lots of character with beautiful beams showing through the ceiling but it does leave the area a litlle chilly and dark. The staff were great from arrival to finish. We will definitely be back. Great place!
