Al Mezza is a Lebanese Restaurant based in Athlone in Westmeath. They offer foods from Lebanon that is considered a Mediterranean delicacy. They consist of fresh vegetarian dishes, salads and stews, all seasoned with a flavorsome combination of herbs and spices.

As with most Mediterranean foods, Lebanese cuisine is considered to be a very balanced & healthy diet & the cuisine of Lebanon is the epitome of the Mediterranean diet. It includes an abundance of starches, fruits, vegetables, fresh fish and seafood. Animal fats are consumed sparingly, poultry is eaten more often than red meat and when red meat is eaten it is usually lamb. It also includes copious amounts of garlic and olive oil, often seasoned by lemon juice – rarely has a meal gone by in Lebanon that does not include these ingredients. Most often foods are grilled, baked or sautéed in olive oil or butter. Cream is rarely used other than in a few desserts. Vegetables are often eaten raw or pickled as well as cooked. While Lebanese cuisine does not boast an entire repertoire of sauces, it focuses on herbs, spices and the freshness of ingredients.

I would like to be able to comment on the food, however, we didn't get a chance to eat it!nMy girlfriend and I came to this restaurant on recommendation of the owner of the hotel we were staying at for our anniversary. We arrived at 6:30 pm where we were awkwardly greeted by a waitress who wouldn't sit us because we didn't have a booking. This would have been fine had there not been an abundance of empty tables. She made a big deal about going out of her way to ask the manager if we could be seated, which he said was fine. The waitress then came back to us with menus and snidely told us she needed the table for 9pm.nWe looked through the menu, but her attitude had made us feel very unwelcome and extremely uncomfortable so we left.nI see no justification for her actions. If there was 2 and a half hours before tables were booked and there were so many other seats available, you should be seated with no objections.nWould not recommend based solely on the unprofessional and rude behaviour of the staff.

It was mediocre .. I wouldn't particularly rate it, fine for lunch but I've had better Lebanese food.

I really don't like writing this, but I was disappointed with my last visit to the restaurant. Maybe the low standard was because it was Monday evening. I ordered the beef shawarma and the beef was very dry and overcooked - as if it was meet that has been salvaged from leftovers and reheated. All my experience was ruined to the extend that I do not know if I will return to the restaurant again, even though at my previous visits everything was perfect. Consistency is one of the most important aspects of a restaurant!

Fantastic food. Would definitely recommend it. A little bit price but all food is cooked with fresh produce, so worth it.

I would definitely recommend this restaurant. The food was fantastic. We ordered 5 dishes and 5 side orders and each dish was extremely tasty and full of flavour. Would definitely return again. The Lebenese coffee is a must, if you enjoy a coffee after a meal. Staff were also very friendly.

We purchased a deal thoug menupages and found this wonderful restaurant in Athlone situated in what was perhaps an old house we were greeted and shown to our table. Our voucher entitled us to two starters two mains and two desserts. The menu has so much on it your spoilt for choice. The food was perfect and service very good. The dessert were a bit disappointing but the whole experience of tasting the lebanese array of food was great.

We ate here for our anniversary as we wanted to have something special and we were not disappointed. Fantastic flavoursome food. We had the Al Jabel Mezza for two which was a selection of about sixteen different dishes which kept appearing at our table, what a treat for the eyes and taste buds. Herbs and spices, though not hot, and everything bursting with flavour. This is an eating experience not to be missed, if you haven't tried it you're not living.

Very nice place to eat good food. My husband and I had starters and a main. Each course was so tasty. I had chicken wings as a starter, they were so delicious I now need the recipe! The mains were skewers of lamb mince. Chicken , beef , lamb. Served with your own choice of either rice, diced fried potatoes. A flat bread. Salad. I had the potatoes with my mince lamb skewers , so very tasty. Menu was varied . I have eaten Lebanese before in London, this was an equal to any London Lebanese. The restaurant was unpretentious modern eclectic. Service was very good. And I can only say I am looking forward to eating there again the next time I'm in Athlone.

Fairly quiet the Thurs night we were there so not a great atmosphere however there is a nice homely sense to the place and the service is friendly and attentive without being invasive. Food was good but not great with the desserts proving the highlight. Went with a menu pages voucher so great value but prices are reasonable anyway so recommend.
