It is shocking how bad this place has left itself slip. It was an exceptionally good gastro-pub a year and a half or so ago (maybe slightly longer). The menu's are getting shabby and worn, the food options have gone from quirky yet appealing to extremely confused and weird and the execution of the food is even worse. From three of us eating three courses each on our visit, only my friends seafood bisque was passable. The others were bordering on awful. My starter of suckling pig with an olive tapenade actually came with a mackerel pate instead of the tapenade. Mackerel and pork??? My main was possibly the worst plate of food I've had in a long time. It was deep-fried chicken (not done well at all) on black pudding and mushy apple on top of a sugary sweet waffle!!! Willy Wonka wouldn't have come up with the plate of food. There has definitely been a change in chef in the last 18 months and the standard has plummeted. I hope this place gets it's act together because it was a great addition to Dungarvan. Whatever is wrong now please fix it. Go back to doing good, flavoursome food at a reasonable price. Inventive doesn't mean strange with food pairings.

Recent lunch in a lovely place with good service - a decent and freshly made soup (tomato and chilli), a pork and chicken salad sandwich on good ciabatta and an excellent coffee for E9.95. That is all.

Stopped in Dungarvan on Saturday night on way home from Cork. We were looking for somewhere nice to eat and spotted Merrys and thought it looked inviting when passing by. There were candles in the windows and a lovely open fire. The waitress was very attentive and friendly even though there were 2 large groups having a Christmas party beside us. I had the steak which was delicious. I ordered the mushroom and chorizo sauce which I felt was a bit dry for my taste, but it did taste lovely and it was nice to try something different. My fiancee had lamb which he though was very tender and tasty. We shared rustic chips which were really good. We shared Eton Mess, which I didn't really enjoy. I expected it to be more meringue with some fruit, but it was more like a smoothie with some meringue in it. We were going to move on to another pub after eating, but the atmosphere was so cosy and Christmassy we stayed there til closing time!

We knew nothing about this place when we dropped in, absolutely famished. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity of the food. My husband had french onion soup which he thoroughly enjoyed and we both then had massive main courses for €10. I had some finger-lickingly good ribs, with corn and hand-cut chips and he had a home-made burger. Both were excellent. We also tried some of the unusual beers they sell. In all, we had a really enjoyable meal and left absolutely stuffed!

What a gorgeous place this is .A Gastro Pub that ticks all the boxes . The food is fantastic ,chicken wings ,lamb chops, meringue desserts to mention just a few hit all the high notes : heavenly . The real key here though is the owner and staff ,lovely welcome and banter -great knowledge on wine & food across the board. The live music ,board games ,fresh flowers and décor are the touches that set it apart. Love this place ,wish Ireland even Dublin had more like it .

We have eaten in Merry's on several occasions at this stage, and brought friends and family - and it has never disappointed. The decor is quaint, without being twee. The service is consistently good, and the food is always excellent. We have tried many dishes on the menu - and really enjoyed them all. All in all, a fanstastic place to visit in Dungarvan - highly recommended!

Called in for Sunday lunch while driving back to Dublin from Cork. An excellent stopover choice! First class pub grub in a pleasant bright environment served by smiling staff. Our only caveat would be the huge portions.......we had a starter and a main course each and were really struggling in the end. The mackerel pate is simply delicious and alone worth going back for. The filo wrapped spinach and goat's cheese parcels were light as feathers and could not have been further from the pre-prepared variety often encountered. We then had the fresh fish and the spicy chicken wings which we were warned were really hot and they were. Yum. It was all very reasonably priced - they do a special menu for €18.89 (or a couple of cent more or less) which is 2 courses and a glass of wine or a pint. A walk around the castle was the perfect way to walk it off!

My wife & I have visited Merry's on many occasions. As part of a group for a buffet, as a foursome and as a couple. We have always been greeted warmly and served efficently by the members of staff. We enjoy the informal bar tables for dining and watching the world go by. But we've also enjoyed the more intimate restaurant too for a more romantic evening. The food has never failed to please us. It's well cooked, good honest fresh food. There are house stalwarts on the menu; like the in house burger and possibly the best steak I've ever had. But also, an interesting and lively specials board which we like very much. You are never rushed and dining is much more "European" in its laid back style and not rushed. Something to be commended. The wine list seems to have something for most tastes, though we aren't wine buffs. The music at the weekend is of a good standard and always worth a listen. All in all. Merry's is our favourite getaway from the world outside. Well priced, friendly and with lovely food. Keep doing what you are doing guys. p.s Chef, can we please have your Sticky Toffee Pudding recipe.

I love Merry's, the atmosphere is always nice and relaxed and I love the interior of the place, myself and the girlfriend were in last weekend and I had the chowder amd the steak, with the best chips ever! My girlfriend had the chicken pesto which she loved, the prices are a little on the steep side, but the quality of food is excellent

mediocre at best. Has the look of a gastro pub but the food falls short. Had the chowder it was like dishwaterl, greasy, watery with poor quality fish. Risotto - unimaginative, belly pork good but not great. The waitress was pleasant but a senior member of staff was unprofessional and sneering.

Good but not great. We have eaten in Merrys many times recently due to the easy access and space (with a double buggy its a necessity!). The menu is generally quite good but a couple of things disappoint. The bacon and cabbage is drowned in a very dodgy parsley sauce so much so I recommended to a fellow diner to request it on the side and boy was she grateful!! The potato gratin is also unlike any I have ever had and not in a good way. However, many of the other dishes are great. The chowder is excellent, the chips as per other postings are fab and the burger is divine. The staff are really friendly and helpful and we will undoubtedly be back!!

Ate here recently in a group of 13 or so, and I was pleasantly surprised by the standard of food we all got. I had the mussels and chips, mmmm the chips. Really tasty and not too pricey. Nice bar, reasonably friendly staff and a good bet for a relaxed pub lunch.

Had lunch in Merrys last week and was neither disappointed or blown away, it purely does what it says on the tin. Had the steak sandwich with chips, which was nice but don't think the pepper sauce worked well with the sandwich and overall the plate looked very dull, no side salad or anything to brighten it up. The chips however were amazing and would return just for these. Maybe a bit pricey for lunch but all in all wasn't too bad.
