I've been here many times in the past, the food is lovely, staff are usually great and is good value. Today was a different story and I left without getting a table or ordering. Their policy is first come, first served regarding tables and if a table isn't ready they ask you to take a seat at the bar until one is ready. Sounds fair right?! Well only if it's followed by all staff members. This was the case today, that I was asked to wait at the bar until a table was ready. After about 5 minutes people walked in off the street and sat down at a table. I've done this in the past, not realizing other people were waiting and was asked to move which is fair but today the other people weren't asked to move. I left the premises as there's a history of this happening. In that past and I had to bring it to the managers attention after a male staff member snapped at me when I asked how long I'd be waiting for a table when other customers walked in, sat down as I was waiting at the bar for a table. I was pretty shocked at how he spoke to me and he kept shrugging his shoulders as if I had asked an impossible request. I've worked in customer services and most places would be shut down if they copied this type of service. The table policy is fair but try using it for all customers, not just when it suits. Making it clear it customers they can't just take a table when others are waiting would be a start.

We found this great pub just by chance, up a side street in Waterford City. It was a stroke of luck as it seems to be the best place to have lunch. It was packed, mothers with young kids, couples and family groups were all enjoying the hearty food they serve here. Hubby had chowder and a sandwich which he enjoyed immensely while I chose the chicken panini. All I can say is I struggled to get through the gigantic portions, salad, coleslaw, chips and very large roll. Even though it was very busy the service was quick and friendly. We will return if we are ever back in that part of the country, it is a little jem.

The Gingerman is one of the best places for having lunch in Waterford. They have a brilliant menu, with all different kinds of things available that you are never stuck and they cater for all tastebuds. Every lunch I have gotten here was so tasty, and they give you such a generous portion that it is really worth the money! They have everthing from paninis and pasta, to steak ciabatta sandwiches and ribs and colcannon. On this occassion, I ordered the chicken panini with chips and my boyfriend ordered the beer batter cod. The chips were great in size and everything is presented well. The staff are one of the friendliest staff I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, they are always smiling and are so attentive! You really cannot fault the service! So if you have never eaten here or are in WAterford for the day, I would really recommend it.

I was in for lunch on na saturday, clearly a busy day. The food was good, Id the club sandwich and, even though pricey at almost €8, it is good. The staff were busy, and therefore the service was maybe not excellent, but was quite good given the workload. Overall, definitely worth a look.

I eat lunch here every time I go to Waterford. It's location is perfect - right in the center. Perfect for lunch after some shopping. They do THE best club sambo, it's to die for. The portions are huge as well and very reasonably priced. All their food is good, i have yet to be disappointed in there!

Went there for lunch a couple of times, it's dead handy (middle of town). Am not usually crazy about a pub for lunch, I don't like the smell of old beer with my sandwich, but the food is good here - ordinary food, nothing crazy fancy, but tasty and fresh. Service was hit-and-miss (when it's good, it's v good, but when it's bad, it's rotton) the few times I was there. I would recommend though, especially for ordinary food like soup and sandwiches. Yum. It's hard to get a decent "ordinary" lunch these days (everything is gone very fancy) and the Gingerman does ordinary very well...
