I was not impressed with this restaurant, the service was poor in my opinion. My mother and I ordered a simple toasted sandwich which we were wainting a good 20 minutes for .When they did arrive eventually,we told the waitress we had asked for tomato on the sandwich when placing order, which we didn't get.She seemed a bit put out nby this and just took the sandwiches away without saying anything. We waited another 15 minutes or so,I wanted to ngo at this stage but my mother said no we won't. The nsandwiches were brought back but the waitress gave no napology for delay, she wasn't one bit friendly. The tea was nlike water we had to ask for another tea bag and the ntoasted sandwiches were greasy. There was another nwaitress working there who made up for the unfriendly none, she was very plesant. We didn't bother complaining as I ndon't think it would have made a difference. nAs you can guess, will never set foot in the Gate restaurant, again!

The Gate restaurant is a bit like 'Doctor Who's' Tardis. It looks quite small as you approach it but it is surprisingly roomy when you enter. I think that it offers one of the best in terms of value for a hot beverage/bun or a quick, unfussy lunch in Navan. The staff are attentive and one does not have to wait long to be served. An Americano and home-made scone costs about €4.50 (as compare to nearly €7.00 for a comparable snack/ hot drink in certain cafés in Dublin). I recommend the Irish stew or fish and chips if you want something substantial for lunch or an early dinner.

My friends and I have frequented this restaurant once or twice weekly for the last couple of months.Today we ordered the lunch special @ €6.50 and we also ordered a pot of tea for 3, we asked for a top up on the tea as there wasn't enough in the pot for the 3 of us. When we were paying our bill we were each charged € 9.70 which amounted to €9.60 for the 2 small pots of tea. We brought this to the attention of the staff,we were given back the total sum of € 2.60 and no apologies. We will not be frequenting this cafe again.

Have visited this restaurant a few times and always have a good experience. We had breakfast there and it was delicious, they have smoked salmon with poached eggs with lovely home made brown bread. they also have lots of health options for breakfast. the food is always fresh and tasty. lovely athmosphere.

In my opinion this cafe has a very "safe" menu nothing different and pretty overpriced. They would benefit by reducing prices and changing menu. Anytime I go in here all people seem to be eating is a fry-up brekkie - this obviously is their winner and keeps them busy.

Very disappointing. Coffee was dire, like something you'd get out of a bad vending machine. I ordered 2 poached eggs and toast which at €6 is about right because had I been charged any more I would've laughed. The toast was strategically served burnt side down so I wouldn't notice until the last moment. The eggs were bland, hard and the plate was full of water. I like my poached eggs runny but someone clearly forgot about these. I couldn't drink more than 2 mouthfuls of the coffee and left the rest. Only for the staff being so nice I think my rating would've been a 1. If you don't have any tastebuds and don't expect very much from your food, visit this place.

Dropped in here a couple of times while shopping in Navan. If you're lucky to get a seat the food is really good for a quick, tasty bite to eat. It's reasonable for the centre of the town.

Best place in Navan to eat. Great homemade food, really nice place to eat in too. Everything is freshly made. Definitely worth a try, as there is not much else in the same league as this place available in Navan.
