Bellinter Country House Hotel Meath is a magnificant example of an eighteenth century country house in Palladian style. Standing majestically on the banks of the River Boyne in the rolling landscape of County Meath, Bellinter House exudes period glamour. We are located just under an hour from Dublin city and Dublin Airport

The vaulted cellar is home to the 2 AA Rosette Award Winning Restaurant - Eden. Eden is also a sister Restaurant to the award winning Eden in Temple Bar, Dublin. Menus in Eden are seasonally based and produce is sourced locally wherever possible.

AWARDS & PRIZES

Most star-rated hotels have their own restaurants and these are inspected by the AA. As with independent restaurants, rosettes from one to five are awarded annually to hotel restaurants for the quality of their food. Not all restaurants receive an AA award, but will generally serve enjoyable food.

Very, very disappointing. The food a very Mediocre. The starter, Duck Terrain was similar to two slices of cold white pudding. My partner has smoked salmon, you can't go wrong with smoked salmon and a bit of salad leaves but the portion was tiny. Main course, Lamb was fatty and tough on a bed of mash potatoes, the other main course, beef was tough also and also presented on a mound of mash potatoes, hardly imaginative. Desert, I declined, I orderd just a coffee. My partner had what look liked a reheated pastry with a blob of ice cream which arrived at the table after I was finished my coffee. Grubby glasses, water jug and dust on the salt & pepper pots. Total cost for a 3 course is €43, for poor food like this it would be expensive at half the price. We won't be back.

We ate at the Eden restaurant as part of a one night stay at Bellinter house. While the hotel, spa and rooms were fantastic and impressive I found the restaurant a little lacking. I love the theme of the hotel and I completely understand the logic behind continuing this theme into the restaurant but I think it's a little ill-advised. I was expecting a nice posh restaurant with wooden floors, soft lighting, mood music, candle lit tables and an intimate atmosphere. What we were greeted with was leather swivel chairs, mustard coloured carpet and brightly lit family style dining. I didn't feel this was in keeping with my expectations at all. I had the Mushroom starter followed by the Duck main which was delicious and full of flavour but let down by the large deposits of grizzle in the Duck meat. Herself had Steak main and too found the meat a little fatty. The meal was finished with ice cream and chocolate sauce for herself (which seemed like some huge ask as it was not on the menu?) and the trio of Creme Brulee for me. Very tasty. And they decorated the plate with chocolate birthday wishes for me which was a lovely touch. The waiting staff were a little nervous and inexperienced though which was endearing at first but got a little tiresome towards the end of the meal when cutlery was consistently dropped. Not sure of the value for money as the meal was included in our stay so we paid little attention to the costs.

Very, very disappointing. We were expecting Eden, Temple Bar standards. Instead, we got very mediocre food. Just one vegetarian starter and one main - so no choice. Starter was microwaved - not a treatment that improves pastry. Left most on the plate - no interest from waitress. I complained that the main course was not heated evenly - the message back from the kitchen was that this was not possible! Good creme brulee with stale biscotti. This was lazy food, poorly conceived and badly executed. The friendly and attentive service of staff can't make up for the deficits of the kitchen. Grubby glasses, not matched for the reasonably expensive and very nice wine, further let the place down. Although, astonishingly, no prices are shown on the menu, this turned out to be a fixed price menu of €35. Food this poor would have been expensive at half the price.

Ate at Eden as part of a 1night stay with Dinner and B & B. Have to say the food was delicious. I had breast of pheasant to start, followed by pan seared cod with risotto and for dessert a lovely creme brulee. I could not fault any of it. My other half's steak was to die for. Great atmosphere in the restaurant set in the old cellers of the house. I'd definately go to Bellinter again just to eat in this restaurant.

I was so disappointed with Eden, I'm a massive fan of it's Dublin branch, in fact I think I'd say it's one of my very favourite restaurants. I thought it was going to be of the same quality but unfortunately the food just wasn't the same at all. I had scallops to start which were nice to be fair. However my lamb main course was very average - chewy and hard to cut. I'm not a huge fan of lamb but I order it at Eden because I know it will melt off the bone - this certainly was not the case in the Bellinter branch. Also it's in a basement, the complete opposite of the airy glass panelled Dublin Eden. Breakfast was DIRE! We went at 10.40, breakfast was until 11am - literally they didn't have a thing left......no juice, no croissants, no jam. When I asked, it was all delivered, but I feel they should keep supplying until breakfast was finished. Also the hot food that we ordered was luke warm, like they had just taken it off a buffet in the kitchen. Beautiful hotel, Eden needs to pull up it's socks.

Stayed in Bellinter House Hotel on a mini break package so a 3 course meal in Eden Restaurant and breakfast was included. I was very impressed. The food was super. Eden's famous "smokies" were gorgeous, as was the pheasant starter. For my main course I had beetroot risotto which didn't sound great but was very tasty and the desserts were lovely. breakfast the next day was delicious - I have never tasted such scrumptious porridge (with toasted walnuts and maple syrup!) Service in the restaurant was very professional. I will definitely be back.

Stayed at Bellinter House for 2nights B&B & one evening meal.It was a great time to go because there were very few people staying in the hotel, which meant we had the pool etc to ourselves, & yet the restaurant was still busy enough to have a nice atmosphere. The staff were all excellent;helpful, informative. We had Starters(I had Wild Rabbit, my other-half had the Pheasant), an Amuse Bouche, Main(Venison & Steak) & Desserts. I've worked in restaurants and eaten in what are supposed to be top-class restaurants, but I don't think I've ever had a meal where everything was perfect - normally one course lets it down, but not here, it was absolutely perfect. Perfectly cooked & presented. Every course tasted amazingly good including the dessert-the waitress recommended the Trio of Mini Babas,I can't even describe them properly, but they were all excellent. I'd stay there again just to eat in the restaurant!

We had a beautiful Sunday lunch here last week. The Eton Smokies starter stole the show - hot, tasty and gorgeous. Each main was accompanied by indivual vegetables to suit the dish. The desserts of Christmas Pudding and sorbet (Apricot, Kiwi and Cranberry) were superb. We finished the day by having a drink in gorgeous drawing room upstairs. Although the restaurant was quite empty there was a real buzz around the House itself with people coming and going all the time.

a group of us eat ere on friday night and it was well below standers, our food was served cold and the restaurant was not at all busy. the staff were not very well trained and did not understand the menu. i do not mind paying for good food but this was not at all... and the deco was very cold. i did not enjoy it at all and after complaining and our food been taken back twice to the kitchen we were still charged, and were looked at like it was our fault that there chef could not cook a steak.we left hungry. navan is really failing in good restaurants.

This came very well recommended from friends and family and while the whole experience of the place was nice, I have to admit I was a tad disappointed with the restaurant. It was fine, but really not worth what we paid for it.(75 euro for 2 mains, 2 desserts, glass wine, 1 beer - early bird menu!) We were there on St. Patrick's Day this year and were told earlier in the day we could order the pre-theatre menu. However, later on in the restaurant, staff explained that as it was a bank holiday, this menu was not 'on'. As other people had been promised the same menu as us, the manager allowed us to order the pre-theatre menu. Maybe this was our mistake! I ordered steak for the main course - it was nice but I didn't feel it was the best cut ever - it was quite fatty which I wouldn't expect in a restaurant of it's calibre & price range. I would generally order steak when I eat out and I have definitely had nicer pieces. I ordered a glass of Pinot Grigio, which at 7.50 euro is expensive, but it was the smallest amount of wine I have ever seen for that price. Again probably connected to the fact that we were allowed to order from early bird. Dessert was ice-cream in a nest which was fine, nothing to write home about. I'd think twice about driving up from Dublin to this place again solely for the restaurant. Perhaps a weekend here would be nice with spa treatments etc. I certainly won't be rushing into temple bar to try out that Eden!

I recently had the pleasure of being in Bellinter House for a family confirmation party - it was a treat from beginning to end. We were accommodated in the private dinning room which meant we could really relax and make as much noise as we wanted - and the kids could move about without annoying anyone else. Our waiter, a young french man, was fantastic - very friendly, meeting all our needs without being over attentive or stuffy - it was perfectly pitched and done with ease and professionalism (which, sadly, seems often to be lacking in the Irish service industry these days). The kitchen did a set menu for us – again – it took all the fuss out of a large family gathering – ‘choice-editing’ makes things wonderfully easy and great value for money – something which Bellinter House is offering across the board along with good food and a well balanced menu. We started with honey roast root vegetable and herb soup – it was delicious – and I’m fussy –and cannot be fooled easily. It was smooth and velvety, they had obviously taken the time to strain out the pulp, which I would expect in such an establishment (but it does not always happen elsewhere), and it was not over flavoured with salt and honey, which meant it actually tasted of the carrots and parsnips and herbs etc. It was served with well-made, what I call proper/real bread – not the pretend bread served in so many places these days. We then had a choice of either fillet of cod or cornfed chicken – the kids had great home-made beef burgers with great sourdough baps and home-cut fries. I had the cod – and will, therefore, venture further comment. It was served with chive mash and greens with a sauce vierge. The cod was beautifully cooked, moist tender flakes of cod with a crispy skin. If I was to fault anything (and on this occasion it’s a difficult thing to do) I might have served the fish with more greens and potato on the side – but this is a very personal taste/critique – I personally don’t like fish served on a bed of mash – I prefer lots of greens to keep th
