Mangos was recommended to us by the hotel we stayed in. we were assured of a wonderful meal. we had eaten in a nearby restaurant the night before which was truly excellent so hopes were high for a repeat. unfortunately, we had the kind if meal we have largely come to expect in recent months. nothing terrible but nothing great either. Crab and prawns overcooked for starter, seafood medley for main course which was overpowered by the sauce, none of the delicacy of seafood which you would hope for. No, I didn't offer our comments to the waiter, we weren't asked but the company was so good we let the food pass on the basis that we were having a good time.

I have mixed feelings about eating here. Taking into consideration I ate alone and on a Monday night I dont think one can penalise atmosphere so much. Service was friendly enough. Had a half dozen very fresh oysters and a plaice stuffed with crab. The oysters were quite small but very tasty. The plaice stuffed with crab left me wanting but I don't know why? Served with simple steamed vegetables but no pinache. Satisfactory Chardonnay by the glass. Asked for cheese board but only sweet puddings. There are better restaurants in Westports but I'd be willing to give it another try with friends. Saw another table have lovely breast of duck and steak so not just seafood here. Felt the price was aimed a little too high...

An exceptional range of seafood dishes, eary-bird menus, and the specials that were on the board the evening we went there made us abandon the earlybird option. Having come across from Wicklow, and being so close to the Atlantic, you can't get fresher fish than this, and the preparation, service, and quality we found to be excellent. It's rather a small restaurant too, so be sure to book in advance and go early in the evening if you like a quieter time.

food was great - mainly seafood but enough choice for those who did not want fish. service was excellent and very friendly. you need to book ahead as it is small and very popular. There were eight in our party and everyone was very satisfied.

Food is only ok but with high price and poor service. I was there with my husband and we were the first customer of that night and the waiter ask us do we want sparking water or distilled water. we said distilled water and only found out it costs 4.85euro per bottle which is more expensive than a pint. I saw the other customers that come after us all having tap water. I ordered oysters and required them to be cooked (there was fresh oyster on the menu which is half dozen for 9.95euro) because I was pregnant, but the waiter said they only do cooked oyster on their special which is called baked oyster and the price is 12.95euro. I had to order the expensive one because I really like oyster. However, it only come with 4 oyster and they were cooked with too much cheese which didn't taste good. the cheese destroyed the natural taste of the oyster. Main course was scallop. It was ok with decent size but the vegetables it came with were horrible. Even though I had oyster for my starter and scallop for my main course, I was not full yet. However, I didn't want the dessert because of the food quality and poor service. we did wait for a long time (over 30mins) for our starter and main course and the bill finally came around 70euro for 2 of us without any alcohol on it. It is very expensive for this kind of food and service. we will never go back again. We both had a very bad experience.

This restaurant came recommended by a friend when she heard we were going to be in Westport for a few days. We booked on-line (using menupages on my phone no less). Very glad I booked, 'cos it's a popular and busy place. Understandably so. It was one of those great dining experiences that you savour and remember. It's a nice cosy small restaurant with a family feel. Service was excellent, very friendly & attentive but not over the top. Just the right amount of banter and chat. This is always a good sign, especially when the house is full ... they still take a little time to interact with the diners. So the food: Cajun spiced prawns - didn't want them to end. Pan-fried organic Clare island salmon pan-fried with avocado butter - melt in the mouth. Silver hill duck served with honey orange & ginger sauce - loved it (tiniest of criticism... would have enjoyed more sauce). My wife had the profiteroles for dessert and they were pretty much as good as you get. The only peculiar experience we had with Mangos was trying to find it! It is literally at the top of Bridge street, but an on street tree hides it from easy discovery. We spent quite some time walking around a number of streets before we found it, which is not an unpleasant experience in Westport as it turns out! I would highly recommend Mangos. Make sure to book in advance. And enjoy!

My husband and I ate an early bird menu. There was a good choice of dishes and it was good value, 2 courses for €19.95. The tables filled up very quickly so if you don't have a reservation then make sure you go early. For starter I ordered the soup of the day - tomato & basil, and it was very tasty and much needed after a wet day. My husband ordered the duck which was simple but tasty. For main course we ordered the chicken and the salmon. The mashed potatoes they were served on and the mushroom sauce with the chicken were very tasty and the salmon was also delicious. Unfortunately, the vegetables which were served with the dishes were not cooked enough for our liking. We were so full that we decided not to order a dessert so can't comment on that. I would definitely recommend this place but just make sure that you either reserve a table or arrive early.

Although our 9pm reservation for 6 didn't sit until almost 9.30 (we had dropped in a little early and advised to go for 'slow pint'), the previous sitting seemed to be having too good a time so they were moved along - all in good spirits. Once we sat, everything was excellent. The service, food selection, extra veg - all well presented with good sized portions. We have eaten here a number of times over the years and had brought along some first-timers - with high expectations. No-one was disappointed. I'm pleased to see the high standard hasn't wavered a bit. We look forward to our next visit whenever we get back to Westport again. I took .5 score off for the late start but this may be a little harsh. I assume the previous sitting knew that had to vacate by 9 and it didn't really take away from the overall enjoyment of the evening.

We tried to eat here a few years ago but, having ordered a bottle of wine , were refused service as my 80 year old father in law wished to partake only of a starter and was informed this was not possible at peak times, despite the fact that my husband and I were having 'the works'. More recently on receiving a gift voucher, we returned without my father in law who had since died . Having eaten , we ventured to inform the manager of our last visit. No apology, no explanation, in fact no response at all other than to turn and walk away. Then again , there is no explanation for greed.
