AWARDS & PRIZES

We seek out the best establishments in every part of Ireland for inclusion in our guides and, because we work independently and without charging a fee, you know that we can be trusted to lead you to the best places over a wide range of categories. In 1900, André Michelin published the first edition of a guide to France to help drivers maintain their cars, find decent lodging, and eat well while touring. In 1926, the guide introduced the star to note good cooking; two and three stars were added in the early 1930s. The guide awards one to three stars to a small number of restaurants of outstanding quality. Every year, the Bridgestone editors set out to find those restaurants that offer the best cooking and the best service in Ireland. This book features grand city restaurants, and tiny little one-room restaurants in the wilds of the country. There are restaurants located on islands, and restaurants that reverberate with the energy and mania of the city. The McKennas' Guide Plaque is the most respected badge of merit in Irish contemporary food. Awarded only to those who are described in the McKennas' Guides, the plaque is the ultimate signal of culinary creativity and imagination.

The atmosphere here is very good.Nice and relaxed. Service was prompt and efficient. The food was well cooked and we'll presented. The only gripe I would have is there was very little on vegetable content.apart from potatoes. You got 1 carrot.and 1 long stemmed broccoli.although beautiful.could have been more plentiful. Desert was really nice. I would recommend this restaurant. Will definitely be back.

Tried this place last night after hearing several recommendations. It was very average. Staff were very friendly but quality of dishes was not consistent with the prices. As we left I overheard the host telling the our waiter to wash his hands-a little disconcerting

Having heard so many good things about Frankie Mallon's restaurant we had to try this one. We went for the early bird menu whcih was good value at 23 euro for two courses. My wife had the soup which looked really good, I went for the pig's cheek salad, a house specialty which was really moreish! For the mains I had the lamb which was cooked just as I asked while my wife's trout looked equally good. For dessert we had the chef's dessert selection, which gave you a taste of several different desserts. all perfectly done. The wine was a little expensive so we just had a glass of house wine each. Service was good and very friendly.

This could be my new favourite restaruant in Westport. Really, interesting menu, and local produce clearly used. On a Paleo diet and they had a sweet potatoe gratin instead of potato. Pork cheek and black pudding salad, followed by a fresh special of the day fish, and cheese board. Decent wines by the glass. Topped off by a nice gesture of little chocolates and sweets. Engaging staff. Friendly. Sunday night and busy. Tried to get in 3 nights previous and was full on a Wednesday. So atmosphere is good. You wont regret this choice

The food, staff and atmosphere were all lovely. My only critism is that the crab claws were slightly overcook as a result had lost their sweetness. I look forward visiting again very soon.

Exceptionally well presented and fabulous variety of alternate vegetables complimenting sea-fresh fish dishes. The two course early-bird just €22 is fantastic value. Do book in advance though to avoid disappointment as we saw many turned away. Not to be missed.

Best meal out in Ireland in a long time. Staff so friendly and attentive and all courses absolutely delicious. We were given 4 different choice of bread to start with pesto, had to stop myself from eating the whole basket. I chose the trio fish platter to start, amazing for a fish lover. Goats cheese was also delicious. Mains of clew bay scallops were the nicest I have ever had, and there were plenty. Pricey but worth it. Sea trout was also cooked perfectly and portion size was generous. Dessert was raspberry and chocolate roulade, a special on the night. Petit fours at the end a lovely touch, as was the homemade limoncello. Can’t wait to go back to Westport to return here.

Had dinner here with my husband during a short visit to Mayo after a friend's recommendation. Amazing! The restaurant itself has a bit of a living room feel -nothing too fancy- but the food was incredible. We opted for the early bird menu which had great variety and was exceptional value.Everything was so fresh and tasty-the creme brulée was the best I've ever tasted. The staff we more than helpful and offered us complimentary liquers and petit fours. I will certainly return the next time I'm in Mayo.

A new place, and a great recommendation by a taxi driver! Really interesting menu too and the starters alone had us rushing for the door. I had pigs cheek salad which was a revelation - really tender and tasty. For the main course I had lamb (which they offer to cook whichever way I wanted, which was unusual) which was again delicious and perfectly cooked. The service was really friendly too, which you don't often get when you're a bunch of lads and being fairly noisy but we were tucked away in one of the alcoves so we didn't disturb people. I'd class it as more of a couples or for special occasions. We had a great meal. It was pretty decent value with 3 courses, coffees and a lot of wine for 50 euro a head.

Really great restaurant in Westport, I booked it based onthet reviews on TRipadvisor and wasn't disappointed. We shared the pig cheek and black pudding starter - fab - beautifuld homemade breads were presented and were great. The two mains of sea trount and a rump of lamb were equally good - though six different vegetables was a bit unusual. Afterwards we were too full for dessert - just as well as we were given some homemade Limencello and petits four which were really delicious. Great and friendly service also. My only comment on thevalue was it was unsual that the early bird wasn't on for the night on a mid week night as most restaurants are not restricting the early bird menu to a set hour - but we will definitely be back
