I have started to get my way around Limerick's food scene as my daughter goes to UL. On Wednesday, after a big stand-off we went to Cafe Noir to repair some damage. Looking at the menu, which has a nod towards France, we decided that we would go for some quiche, a major comfort food for her. We weren't disappointed with our two big wedges of eggy, mouthwatering quiche - she had theone with goat's cheese and I had the one with bacon. This was served with with some fresh salad and a great dressing. I wish we had somewhere at home to go at home for this kind of simple, honest and great food.

I went to Cafe Noir yesterday for lunch. The service was absolutely appalling. This is my third visit to the restaurant, and each time I gave it another try. After yesterday I can safely say I will not be returning. Every single waitress looked so unhappy and one in particular was so rude to me, I asked her a question, and she simply walked away from me and got someone else to deal with it, then that waitress was quite condescending and unhelpful. My friend ordered the fish pie,and it was cold in the middle. all in all, waste of money and i came out of there in a bad mood.

Visited here on Sunday morning for breakfast and found it most disappointing. Service was deplorable the person serving me was having a conversation with another staff member over my head and took money from me with a pair of disposable gloves on. All of the tables appeared to be dirty even though there was no one sitting at them. I was given my coffee and proceed to a table even though it wasn’t clearly explained if I was to wait at the counter or what I should do. The food was very disappointing for €7.95 the breakfast consisted of two slices of bacon one sausage a tomato and to small slices of French stick that were suppose to be French toast but were just cremated and had obviously only got a look at the egg!! The coffee was the only decent thing that I was served from what I could see the place is a total disaster and very bad value for money.

I think Cafe Noir is a great addition to limerick cafes. I work at the university of Limerick and go to this cafe a few times a week. It is a great place to go to get off campus for lunch, there is a bit of a queue at lunch time but I have to admit Im never in the queue for more than 5-10 minutes which is expected in any busy cafe during lunch hours. I always have plenty of time to enjoy a desert and coffee before returning to work. Ths staff are always very polite and the product offerings are great.

I’m a regular user of this Café & I have to say it’s by far the best & most consistent I’ve seen. Parking is easy to turn in whether I’m coming or going from the City. Lovely fresh homemade breads, salads made to order in front of the customer, deserts, well lets just say they are amazing!! The queues at lunchtime shows people are willing to wait a little longer for quality. The staff are always friendly. Bridgestone Guide 11, Georgina Campbell Guide 11 & Lucinda O Sullivan Guide 11 says everything you need to know about this Café.

Go for lunch here quite regularly. Hmm... only reason I go here is because its near to where I work. the food is ok, nothing spectacular. Love their caesar salad but nothing else on the men is very striking. The chicken, i don't get the chicken, its a weird colour and it tastes like it is smoked but i find it absolutely vile. I got a sandwich one day and it was just horrid. Overall, the queuing is a pain, you order food, then you go order your coffee and then you pay - the system should be better laid out as there usually is a long q and people do not have the time on their lunch to be q-ing that long.

I have eaten here quite a few times and the food is always really good, especially their salads which are so fresh and very tasty. The last two time I've been there I've ordered a heated wrap with roasted vegetables and feta cheese. Gorgeous on the first occasion but very poor on this particular visit. However, the waitress was very nice when I said I was disappointed with it. She brought me an alternative from the menu (sausage rolls) which were lovely but forgot to refund me the difference. I would definitely eat there again but I wouldnt say it is value for money. It is quite expensive and doesnt always live up to expectations.

Had lunch here today with a friend. Food was fine, but the service was very poor. Very slow to be served and also as the previoius review said, the staff seemed to be all over the place. Nobody seemed to be in charge and all the staff appeared to be going from handling food to money regularly. No water or glasses out, dirty tables and floor badly needed to be swept. Overall, quite disappointing

Went for lunch in Cafe Noir, food very good as usual, reasonable value for money but the service was very poor. No structure to service, all staff seem to be involved in doing everything, should be more structured with one person resonsible for hot drinks, one or two for food, one for the till and one to clear the tables. Could do with major improvements.

This is a nice place but really more of a lunch venue than dinner. I think it's overpriced for dinner & the service is not very good. A bit too slow. It is lovely for lunch though the queues can be way too long.

My friends brought me to this restaurant for lunch as they loved it themselves and they knew I would like it. They were right. When I arrived at the counter and saw the array of beautifully presented fresh food in front of me I didn't know what to order. The caesar salad was highly recommended so I ordered that and I wasn't disappointed. I really liked the way the salad was prepared right in front of me too. I had a pear and almond tartlet for dessert and it was delicous. They had a wonderful selection of salads and breads and other pasteries and the coffee was good. The service was efficient and the lady on the till was very friendly. The restaurant itself could be a little more cozy but I think the quality of the food makes up for that. I can't wait to try some other dishes when I return for my birthday lunch.

A friend suggested this place, and to be honest I didn't know what to expect weh we pulled up outside the Travel Lodge. On entering the premises, we were greeted with the friendliest staff, and the wonderful atmosphere. I was suprised to see that the prices were very reasonable as the place itself is out on its' own with the beautiful decor. We ordered and ate the most enjoyable meal in complete silence (appart from the groans of satisfaction from each mouthful). Among the group was a 2 year old child, who was treated like a princess by the staff, and entertained by colours and drawings, and general chat by the waitress who certainly knew how to deal with children. When we finished our coffee and desserts, we were surprised that the evening had passed and we in such a relaxed environment. It is great to enjoy a meal in such a lovely place and not feel rushed by the staff for the table. A place definitely worth a visit, can't wait to return!

Great coffee to be had here. Went out for a half hour to see what the 2nd branch of Cafe Noir was like. Had a dessert and a double espresso and so did my mates. All very good. Lots of people were eating main courses out there and the food looked very impressive. Brave decision to put the cafe alongside Travelodge but seems to be working just fine. Definitely worth a trip and next time i'll try a main course.
