My daughter treated me to a weekend in the Brehon hotel in Killarney. I had heard a lot about this hotel but had not been there before, so I was really looking forward to my trip. We had an amazing time there, not to mention our dinner, which was definately one of the best hotel meals I have had for a long time. I usually like to eat somewhere outside, but on this occasion we were tired and probably lazy and decided to stay in. Cant say enough about our meal except it was memorable, and hope to go back there this year. Everything about our stay was memorable.

I stayed in the Brehon from the 30th August to 2nd of September. We ate there on two nights and each time the food and service was excellent. The room itself is lovely with different areas creating different rooms so it felt very cozy but not over crowded. The first night I had soup to start and my dining partner had the crab risotto, both very good especially the risotto. Lamb and turbot for mains were excellent. Coconut Brulee and Mezzanine of Desserts were also lovely. The service was superb. The Fleurie was perfect company to a wonderful night and price was very reasonable. We were so impressed with the meal that we returned and generally we don't do that when we are away preferring to sample a wide offering of restaurants. We also had room service which was of good quality and price. The service was quick and the food hot when it reached us.

Stayed in the hotel for the weekend and ate here on the Friday night. Was not the greatest meal I have ever had... Service was excellent though. I ordered the goats cheese to start and it was a very unusual texture and flavour - it was more like creme fraiche. The other starter was the crab risotto which was well received! For mains we both had the lamb in the guinness jus. The lamb was beautiful and very tender. Perfectly cooked however the sauce was horrible!! It totally overpowered the meat and my plate had a good inch of the sauce. Was trying to scrap it off the meat! Overall wouldn't rush back.

My sister and I had lunch in the bar yesterday. The place was very plush and we had to wait to be seated in the bar where there were loads of free tables! The lunch itself was a disaster from start to finish. We waited AGES (and I mean ages!) to get the food and we both had ordered the Turkey & Ham (roast of the day) so we thought we'd have no delay. When the food eventually arrived it was stone cold and congealed on the plate!! The butter was actually solid on the vegetables! It was taken back by a lovely, pleasant waitress and once again we waited... It still wasn't anything like hot and the meat had completely dried out and there was still a 'skin' on the gravy. It was awful. Worst €26 we spent!! Maybe they were just having a bad day in the kitchen? I felt sorry for the really nice waitresses who had to serve this food. We certainly won't be back.
