My boyfriend is from Kenmare and had told me about this place so many times, so on our visit to see him folks for the weekend we had to stop in and try it out. Top marks all around, I had the monkfish and he had the Seafood pie which was amazing! My monkfish was perfectly cooked and probably the nicest I have ever had.

The older part of the restaurant is lovely, the new extension (as posted by She on the 27th of Feb 09) was not very inviting looking at all. We ended up on the first floor in the centre table. A group of four we had plenty of space both on and around the table. Really friendly staff and very attentive. Great brown bread and rolls (more provided for the hungry travellers without us even asking, a nice touch). We all went for the two course early bird (starter and main). Very good value for some lovely food. There was a bit of an odd moment when the Butternut Ravioli was served with mashed spuds. It seemed a bit of stodge overkill. Lovely food though. My chicken was superb and the veg side dishes were properly crunchy. All in all, I highly recommend eating here but only if you can get in the front/old part.

We had dinner at this restaurant recently and I must say it was one of the better meals we have had in Kenmare The interior is lovely and warm with it's old stone walls and timber beams My husband had the scallop starter and the seafood pie We are from Kinsale and have great fish in our Restaurants but the seafood pie here was superb. I had the sneem black pudding and the turbot special excellent food ,full of taste and well presented Can’t wait to go back on our next visit to Kenmare

Unfortuately we were seated in what seems to be a first floor extension which lacked character, indeed lack soul. My partner was facing a UPVC door /fire escape and a strange green net curtain that left him feeling quite depressed. The food was almost passable, his steak cooked appropriately medium rare, but served cold. My duck confit and breast, burnt black underside, disguised by the blackberry jus - could have easily been served a few doors down in the Chinese as Crispy Duck. Fine dining price for mediocre food and service. Wobbly table, no table cloths, spent candle in glass on table niether replaced and lit or removed...on Valentines eve! Sorry An Leath Phingin, this was an uninspiring service.
