Prego's restaurant has been nestled in Ballyowen Shopping Centre for the past two years. Offering an extensive menu of Italian dishes. The Head Chef Danilo Barone hails from the south of Italy from along the Amalfi coast where good fresh food is not only an institution but also a religion, a hobby and a way of life. The main menu is made together Danilo Barone & Lucio Paduano. They also have a very special wine list which most of of the wine come from south of Italy & a special prosecco from tuscana region

I would like let everyone know that usually i will invest my free time on a website only for writing positive feedbacks and this is my first negative review ever!Last monday BH i brought my 8 years old child and my two parents in their 70s who came for a week from Italy to visit us for my son Cillian 1st Communion to visit again the lovely village of Howth,i am italian but i have been living in Ireland since 15 years of which 12 years in Dublin, being a single full time working mum and not driving i don't get chance to stroll much around Dublin beautiful seaside spots but the weather last weekend was amazing and i wanted to enjoy the last day of my parents in Dublin all together. We arrived in Howth around 1pm and went for the Pier walk first then we decided to go for a nice seafood meal but unfortunately all the best fish restaurants in Howth were full booked and the waiting was going to be too long so after 1 hour walking around trying to get a nice meal on the harbour we decided to go in the Pizzeria Prego, mainly because my son was exhausted of walking and we needed to use a restroom otherwise my parents despite their old age are very laid back and nice people so they would be even happy to have a panino on the grass;anyway seating at this "italian" place the two waitress girls were very young but very quiet and tobe honest they look afraid of talk to customers!I work in customers service since 20 years so despite being in not such excellent quality food places once there is a welcome smile atmosphere for me its a thumb up as at the end of the day Customers come first and when you have a business you should know how to be able to make your customers feel welcomed!!My parents ordered a Caprese salad and myself and my boy went for a pizza, thinking would be made by Italian in Italian style since they claim to be Italian in the Prego Cafe!Pizza was ok,the base quite good except cheap ingredients anyway regardless the food as at that point we just wanted rest and have

Prego's have changed owners a few times in the past few years and excellent to very good now it's really poor. Their pizza is beyond disappointing, very American style, heavy stuff and the base is really poor (for an Italian like me). The gluten free is even worse, other dishes I have not tasted, I will wait until it changes ownership again, hopefully soon

We just had a delivery order via Just eat and we were beyond disappointed. nnFood arrived 30 minutes too late, we had ordered a special meal deal (12" pizza including 2 toppings, 2 drinks, garlic bread and chips). Pizza looked disgusting, was cold and covered in so much cheese that you couldn't even find the second topping and it was just greasy, no flavour and the crust too hard to eat cause the pizza wasn't fresh. The garlic bread was burnt on one half and stale on the other. nnWe ve had pizza from Prego's before and it was lovely fresh real Italian pizza, nothing compared to the food we have been served today. nnNever ever will we order from there again.

I had frequented Pregos several times in the past - didn't realise that it had changed hands.. Staff were all pleasant but I felt they were like headless chickens all night- their right hand not knowing what their left hand was doing. Very pleasant waitress from Sardinia dealt with us. (party of 8) and only 4 covers appeared all evening for a Saturday evening (raining and bus stike on) so this may have contributed to lack of atmosphere. Items on the menu were not available but we unaware of these on ordering (4 items from a limited menu). All are menus pages were dog eared, I was given dessert menu but no dessert menu attached. Attention to detail is well lacking and service was very very slow. We did give a 10% (€25) tip as waitress was young and so pleasant and I suspect it was the communication between chef /downstairs staff that caused delay not entirely her fault. Pregos is NOT what it used to be ! Food was good but not extraordinary for the price. Think they need to up their game in terms of menu, communication, knowledge of food from waitress point of view..

I ordered two pasta dishes to take away, one Spaghetti Bolognaise for myself and one Gluten Free Linguine Sofia Loren pasta dish for my coeliac wife. I couldn’t get over the price of the gluten free dish. I have in the past experienced supplementary charges for a gluten free pizza bases, maybe a euro or two max. On this particular menu, it did advertise that there would be a charge of €2.50 for Gluten Free Pizza. Nowhere on the menu did it mention that there would be a supplementary charge for gluten free pasta. In fact, there is a separate mention on the menu to say that all dishes are available with gluten free pasta. The dish was originally €13.95 but with this extra charge, it was actually €16.45. At this stage I really wanted to get up and leave and pop to the chipper next door, but with my wife being extremely hungry and no doubt would have been really ill if she ate chipper, we decided to continue with our order. This was not without question, we pointed out to the guy serving us and he said that the charge was included in pasta as well as pizza – again nowhere on the menu was this mentioned. So, now that they are taking advantage of hungry people who do not have much of an option in the immediate locality, we were really expecting this €16.45 pasta dish to be pretty amazing. On returning home, we took this dish that was to be amazing from the paper bag. No this was not the case; it’s really small there is not that much pasta, the dish is mostly taken over by mussel shells. The pasta looks like something from a packet that you can get for €3 in Dunnes stores. I really don’t think the extra €2.50 that we paid towards the dish was towards their hard work making it from scratch – correct me if im wrong there. The lack of pasta is really not too much to be desired. There is no calamari and at the end of it all, although it tasted ok, my wife is not full. Extremely disappointing.

We used to visit Pregos regularly but it changed hands a few years ago and went downhill . Another change of owner recently so decided to try it out again . And I'm glad to say it's really good again . We just had pizzas all round so can't comment on starters/ desserts or other mains but I can say the pizza was very good , made in a proper wood fire oven . Service was quick and friendly . We will definitely be back .

My husband and I ate at Prego’s on Friday 9th May 2014. The Food and service was amazing. We had buffalo mozzarella and tomatoes and Squid for starters. We both had pizza from their fabulous stone oven pizza all the way from Italy. I am gluten intolerant and their pizza was amazing. Staff were lovely and friendly. Service was excellent. I can honestly say I will definitely be back. I wish the new owners all the best in their new venture. See you again soon.

My husband and I were there last night and had a really lovely time. We had been told it was a little gem and after our experience we both agree. It's a small restaurant but its very authentic, a real Italian feel. Candles all around make it very romantic. The service was impeccable and the food was remarkable. I had a delicious starter, prawns in a 'finger-licking-good' creamy pesto sauce followed by a beautifullypresented hake dish. My husband had filet stake and for starter a very tasty risotto. We'll be back for sure!

Booked table for group of friends & was advised would have to pay deposit, when bill arrived no mention of the deposit so had to refer back to waiter- the deposit was not taken off the bill. When I got my Credit Card statement had been charged twice for deposit so called into restaurant, manager not there & he would call, week ltr no word so called and he said he had been to busy to return my call, visited restaurant & manager wanted to keep my CC statement and basically threw money at me when I would not give him my statement. Whilst the food and atmosphere had been nice the attitude and behaviour to customer service was atrocious so I wont be going back there. I was very upset at how rude and unprofessional the whole experience had been.

Hi, I used to visit Prego's & use the takeaway regularly when I lived in Lucan so I was looking forward to my return visit. Unfortunately I was very disappointed with the service we received tonight. We were booked in for 8.30pm. When we arrived we were not shown to our table & then had a half hour wait for the menu as we could not gain eye contact with the waiters. When we did get the menus we ordered water which was brought to the table but with no glasses. It was 9.30 when we got the starters! The food was ok, not as I remembered from before. Maybe it was just this night but it was not overly busy! Its a shame as I did like the restaurant but don't think I'll be returning again.
