Fans of New York style eatery Dillinger's will be very excited to hear about their sister restaurant which has just opened in Ranelagh which promises to be just as big a hit. The premises were a butcher shop in its former life and hence the name - The Butcher Grill. The gang behind it will be familiar to Dillinger's regulars - namely restaurateur John Farrell, chef Eamon Conors and manager Grainne Bates. The Butcher Grill promises “The finest cuts of meat and fish cooked over a wood smoked grill”. There is a 60-day dry aging program in place for the meat and it promises to be amazing; expect to savour the likes of barbecued baby back ribs and hearty oxtail hot pot stew while fish lovers will be salivating at the thought of char-grilled jerk tuna steak and super-fresh oysters. To wash it all down there will be classic cocktails such as vodka martinis and a selection of hand-picked wines, exclusively sourced by John.

I don't normally give negative feedbacks but this experience merits a bad review. Food was good but service was one of the worst we've tried in Dublin. With a 12.5% service charge (which was actually a suprise bec we weren't informed about it, I wonder if a group of 5 was considered to be a big table to serve?), IT WAS NOT WORTH IT. Sidenote: the service charge was handwritten on the receipt and manually added to the total. We ordered a medium rare t-bone steak but when it was served it's cooked rare so we told the waiter about it but he smugly said we ordered medium rare and that is exactly what's given to us. But we know the difference of rare and medium rare. He sounded like it's us who don't know what we're ordering. Anyway, we just asked it to cook it a little more just enough red in the centre but what we got was a gummy steak afterwards. Such a waste of money for a €90 steak. Also,we asked the same waiter if he can take us a photo as it was the birthday of one of us but he rudely said to wait and we understood bec he was busy serving another table (note, the resto is not full). So, we waited but he never returned and just saw him talking to another waitress. Just overall our server was not friendly at all. I would understand if the restaurant was packed and busy but wasn't. Will never return and will not recommend this place.

I went to The Butcher Grill for lunch and had the soup and a side. Both were lovely, soup was very unusual and beautifully presented. My companion had the chips, which were some of the nicest chips I've tasted, very crispy! Food and service were great, my only comment would be that there was only one gluten free main on the lunch menu. I will be back again!

This place was a recommended to us as my husband is a meat-lover. The first thing was trying to make a booking! This place is very busy (good and bad thing) so it took a few dates to finally get in; then we were offered a 7pm or 9pm sitting. 7pm was too early; 9pm too late to start a dinner so we opted for 7pm and felt like kids. We arrived, and realised why it's so hard to get a booking - the place in tiny!!!!!!! Tho, they do squeeze you in. The dinners nearest us were not happy; having been told they could not order desert as they only had 15 minutes before they had to leave the table for the 7pm booking (which by the way hadn't arrived) The lady was so calm - she explained that the meal was great, the wine was lovely but after spending so much money on a meal being told no desert, and you have to leave was too much. You can image my husband and I !!!!!!!!!!!! Best order quickly, eat quickly and get out. As it was our 2 courses were ordered, delivered, eaten and table cleared in just over an hour! Very expensive, delicious fast food. Think if we go again, we'll pop in for a burger, oh, that's right, we'd have to book in advance, so maybe not. Not sure why Dublin restaurants think they can maintain their reputation simply by charging ridiculously expensive prices, offering friendly but not brilliant service and good food - after a while the good food isn't the only thing they have. Oh - if you have a bad back, don't recommend eating there. The chairs are very uncomfortable.

Food lovely but restaurant is a bit on the small side and not the most comfortable when you have a table of 8 loudish Americans beside you. However I cannot fault the food or the service.

The steak alone deserves 4, if not 5, stars. However the restaurant is small and slightly cramped and beyond steak there's not much else on the menu The 10oz Striploin main was cooked to perfection. A very good steak indeed. The sides were equally good. Beans with smoked bacon, broccoli and mushrooms. All good enough to be a dish in their own right. he wine list also looks lovely -- the Bovine (house) bottles line the wall, hugging the walls with booze. Indeed! No deserts, were too full! The

Great place with a wonderful atmosphere. The steaks are to die for and the service is wonderful given that it's quite a small restaurant. The tables and chairs are quite high (bar stool style) and some people don't like that. The only downside is the price. It's border line whether or not it's worth it, but nonetheless it's great.

My husband and I went to the Butcher Grill on a really rainy evening... were soaking wet by the time we got to the restaurant but it didn't really spoil our evening. Food was absolutely delicious! Hubby had onion soup for starters and despite me being weary about it, it was really, really nice... not too sweet as they can sometimes be. I was saving my hunger for the main course so skipped the starter and was glad to have done that. I had a 10oz Rib Eye done medium-well and it was perfect! Meat was tender and juicy and just perfectly mouthwatering. Hubby dissapointed me in having a fish (in a steak restaurant!!!) but it looked really nice and was indeed very tasty. After all the meat feast (for me at least) we decided to indulge in some deserts... Raspberry panna cota and chocolate mousse were just yummy! All in all a really lovely evening with great food. The only downfall of the restaurant is the space between tables. We were seated in a table just bang in the middle of the restarant and that was fine... but a couple seated beside the bar (maybe 50 cm away from our table) was suddenly joined by two of their very loud girl friends who were shouting over eachother and nearly leaning over our table... that kind of prevented hubby and I having a normal conversation for a good couple of minutes. Want to have a cach up go to one of the bars across the road! Nevertheless food in the Butcher Grill is to die for!!! Highly recommend the experience but book in advance.

I love this place! We only go when they have the cote de boeuf offer which I think is great value and so so yummy! We always share a starter and dessert and a bottle of wine and it normally comes in at around €100. The staff are always super friendly. Can't wait to go back!

I had the Cote de Boeuf with my husband, and it was the best steak I've ever had in my life! It's a cozy restaurant with great service. The panna cotta was out of this world as well. I'm sooo going back!!!
