Hobarts @ Ranelagh has been serving hungry customers tasty food since 1999. Hobarts is the brainchild of Karen O’Sullivan, who has worked hard to build a reputation for quality food at the right price. The motto…”the home of the hangover cure”… has become synonomous with the famous all day breakfasts, renowned French toast and American style pancakes, for which Hobarts was best known for until Karen was joined by Deborah Fortune in 2006.
Deborah’s passion for quality home-cooked healthy food and people combined with her dedication to catering to a wide range of cultural differences, differing tastes and lifestyles and dietary needs added a new dimension to the Hobarts menu.

I love this place in Ranelagh and have been there several times recently.. The food is home cooked, healthy and just as you would expect. The soup is really yum and filling. The Breakfasts are filling and I love the option to have eggs any way. They have brilliant salads too. The best bit is the welcome you get, I listened and they chat to every one and appeared to know their customers very well, I think they are regulars. Well worth a visit and brilliant value for money!

Fantastic for a quiet brunch. The food is delicious, the portions are huge and the staff - especially this lady with short hair who has always been there since the beginning - is so incredibly friendly and gentle that you forget you are not having a Sunday fry with your mom. Can't recommend enough, the food is great by the service really makes it stand out. They are also extremely accommodating when it comes to change/add items on an order and really go the extra mile to ensure the customer is relaxed and content. Well done!

This place is a great find. I gave a 4/5 on atmosphere because the place is a teeny bit tired but I literally can not fault them on anything else. The service was great, you just don't get service like that any more and the food. THE FOOD. I got an American Mega. Pancakes (proper pancakes) with sausages and bacon covered in maple syrup. Coffee was good too. The Value is great. €10 for a coffee and whopper breakfast. I will definitely be back (possibly every sunday)

I love this place! Very old school, no frills but incredibly satisfying! the service is honestly the best i've seen. The owner is so lovely and welcoming making everyone feel like the most special customer! I have had the breakfast (Unbeatable hangover cure!!) and french toast (fresh and huge portion). I have never left disappointed and always return gleefully albeit desperate for a cure! Great local business that deserves every customer it gets!

Got Sunday morning breakfast before the All Ireland final. Had a delicious omelette that set me up for the morning. She had delicious French toast. When we asked for tap water, they came out with two big pints of water, knowing well what might be needed on a Sunday morning. Class!

Given the good reviews that Hobarts has received on this site, I was very disappointed with our visit there. The service was brutal, waitress didn't bother to wipe down the table before putting down our cutlery onto an obviously dirty table, asked us if we knew what we wanted to order as we sat down and before providing us with a menu. It was a Saturday morning and had the cafe been busy I would have understood but there was not even ten people inside. The food when it arrived was mediocre at best. I had poached eggs & bacon with hollandaise sauce, there was a miserly dollop of sauce which to add injury to insult was also flavourless and bland. My friend had the french toast and bacon, zero presentation, french toast was obviously two pieces of sliced pan dipped in egg, again it was tasteless with no flavour. The final bill was just over 20 euro and quite frankly I wish I had instead stayed at home. I will certainly not visit Hobarts again. Absolutely terrible.

Met with a couple of friends in Ranelagh for Brunch, everywhere was closed as it was only 11.30am, so we opted for Hobarts. The service was excellent, I had an omelette, coffee and Oj, we were paying individually and my bill was €10.50 which was not bad. Its a lovely place to meet for a quick bite.

This is a regular haunt for me, my friends and family. The fry is to die for and perfect for a hang over. If I'm not suffering I'll have the french toast with maple syrup and bacon which is just gorgeous. It's also great for lunch, their bagels are yum. Service is alwasy great, value is spot on. I've been going for years and will continue for years to come.

I popped in here for a quick lunch on Monday though I had to run out again to the bank as they only take cash payment. I ordered the soup because it is gluten free and the gluten free homemade brown bread(it is very similar to a gluten free bread I bought recently in Superquinn so I am not sure if it is homemade in there-I left it because it isn't great bread). I had to wait a while for the soup as there was only one server. I looked at the menu while waiting and they have a good choice and prices seem reasonable though I though the soup was dear €4.45 or €4.50. When it came it was boiling-so I had to wait for it to cool. It was a nice consistency but the taste was totally overpowered by much too much salt. I'd prefer to control how much salt to add myself-they went way overboard.

I was walking by Hobarts today when a I greeted by a lady (the owner perhaps), standing outside with a card for a free coffee - yes, free! The lady told me they have just changed their coffee and were now serving a blend that was Fairtrade, Organic and Rainforest certified - all of which was on the card. I love coffee and think these all admirable causes and so went in. While there, I decided to have a club sandwich which was of the very highest quality. Staff were extremely friendly and I have to say I also had the best cup of coffee I've had in Ranelagh. I'll definitely be back. Wish more places would do this kind of thing to attract custom. It certainly worked for me.
