Sorely disappointed!!! I dined with two friends in I Monelli on Wednesday night. I Monelli have now moved into the wonderfully leafy Portobello and are utilizing there window seats well! I ordered the Pasta e Fagioli, and my companions the Insalata Rucola e Parmigiano and soup of the day. My soup left alot to be desired, gloupy, bland and quite honestly looked like baby food from a jar. The Insalata, my friend loved, personally I thought that it had come straight from an extremely cold fridge, but he enjoyed it. The soup of the day I was told was delicious. For mains I opted for the classic Cannelloni, it was perfect in everyway apart from its temperature. This is probably me, but I like my dinner served HOT, not warm or tepid, HOT!!! The other mains ordered were ccheri alla Rana Pescatrice (monkfish & pasta in a tomato sauce) and a special which consisted of cubed lamb with mushrooms and pasta in a cream sauce. The monkfish looked good, but tasted like it was thawed from frozen, certainly not fresh that day! The lamb dish was dreadful on every level, the meat was chewy and the dish looked dreadful. The wine list is quite expensive also if you do not opt for the house wine (€20), we went for a Pinot Grigio at €26.95, which was perfectly acceptable to the palate. My friend had been told that the early bird was on all night, not so when the bill arrived (€121), after a discussion we we refunded the difference and given a bottle of wine also. Unfortunately I do not think that I will be back unless serious efforts are but into the cooking and serving. On a night when we were a group of 7 that were in the restaurant, these food fails should not occur!

I Monelli had only just swapped over to its current Portobello location (from Rathgar) when I popped in. Still, it's fantastic to see that it's maintained its high standards amid the move. Food really is exceptionally good and there are great value glasses of house wine for €6. The new spot is perfect too and there's going to be a super buzz about the place in the run-up to Christmas. Can't wait to return!

After visiting I Monelli, I can certainly say that I will be back again to this beautiful restaurant. We went on a Saturday night and even though it seemed quiet when we arrived, the food certainly made up for it. Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly staff, I think his name was Gianni, we were quickly seated and giving the menus. The menu had a great range of dishes to choose from and something to suit every taste. We started with a garlic bread to share, I can honestly say, without a doubt that it was the best garlic bread I have ever tasted, and the main course did not disappoint either. After 2 very tasty and delicious dishes I couldn't fit a dessert in, even though they sounded tempting. We finished off the night with a lovely lemoncillo which was giving to us complimentary. When leaving, Gianni thanked us for coming to his restaurant and to make sure we enjoyed our food. I can't recommend this place enough, it truly is authentic Italian food.

The food was excellent, we had the house specials , the Seabass & the Milanese veal, which were absolutely gorgeous. The atmosphere was very friendly and lively, and the service was professional and helpful. We will definitely be returning, as we found the evening to be very enjoyable and consequently great value. We would definitely recommend I Monelli for excellent authentic Italian food, with very friendly, helpful service.

When we arrived I was quite surprised with the setting - if we had seen pictures we might not have thought it looked very good. The restaurant is in the room that was the function room for the bar below. However, thankfully that was the least appealing thing about it. The menu was unusual and had many interesting dishes to choose from. Service was excellent - they were patient, helpful, generous. Bill was 100eur for two, but included a very nice bottle of wine, and starter and main each, dessert to share and a coffee. We were also given limoncellos compliments of the house.

I hadn't realised that the restaurant closed on Tuesdays during January but it was my mums special birthday hence the choice of date. The restaurant did honour the booking but obviously was sadly lacking in atmosphere as a result. The food was only mediocre and most of our party were not impressed and would not be inclined to re visit the restaurant. All the other reviews I read praised the food but for myself and our party this was sadly a let down.

Arrived on a busy Saturday night with no reservation and were shown to a table promptly. I Monelli has lovely booth like couches for the festive season and has an amazing Christmas Menu on offer. We chose Frascati White crisp white, starters were Tortino di Melanzana an aubergine tartlet with spinach and ricotta cheese on a tomato coulis and raisins, the other starter was a generous helping of Calmari Fritti golden rings do squid served with a spicy tomato dip cooked to perfection the best calamari I have ever had. Mains were an amazing Risotto Rosa, Risotto with prawns and prose co wine with pink lumpfish roe and an Abbruzzi Pizza tomato sauce, Mozarella Cheese, Aubergine, Zucchini, peppers and shaved parmigiana followed by two amazing coffees.
