Went here for dinner with my parents and we all ordered the hake dish. What arrived was the smallest bit of fish I have ever been served in a restaurant . The price was 18 euro per dish and was served with 6 tomatoes. The dish was so bland and we all felt that we had been ripped off. Very over priced food and I won't be going back.

I visited here yesterday with my son and my mother - it was appalling. I've never been in a restaurant where I've seen so many people complain. We waited 40 minutes for two hamburgers. I'd to get out of my chair and ask where our food was. When it eventually arrived it was luke warm. Had to ask for the bill three times. Not going back.

I'm afraid I have to concur with most of the previous reviews for this restaurant/café/bar. The staff were pleasant but useless, bless them. The food (burgers & fries) were below average for the prices they charge - definitely over priced. Everything was slow to arrive and lukewarm. We had given up on dessert when finally it arrived with an apology and an offer to knock it off the bill - which they did. Both the food and wine menus were limited and over priced - considering there wasn't many choices you would imagine that getting those few options right would be easy. I've come to the conclusion that they don't want to be known for their food but really are just a bar that serve expensive food as an after thought.

This was the first time I've ever eaten in a restaurant where I hated absolutely everything about it. The place is one enormous cliche, faux traditional, faux hipster, faux familiarity. Makes your skin crawl. Then there's the food. I had the 1/4 rotisserie Chicken. Is was dry, really bone dry and zero flavour. This came with a fistful of rocket and two teaspoons of avocado, nothing else and they were charging €16. Now I know Dublin is a rip off but this rubbish for that is a joke on every halfwit who eats in this place. The others all were unanimous their lunch was awful. The staff obviously hate working here, seems the whole place is run by 1st year students in UCD trying to make a few quid. Zero evidence of any training. Unless management ordered everyone working there to be surly and passive aggressive.

I was looking forward to seeing and dining in Union Cafe. Place looks great! Hubby ordered the hamburger. He was not asked how he would like it cooked so it arrived well cooked and was not good nor were the fries. I had the fish pie which at €17 I expected something good. The top of it was a flat crust and when I cut into it it was sloppy with no fluffy potato. It consisted of mainly salmon with small cubes of potato and small cubes of carrot. Definitely not freshly made and it was awful. Pub food but restaurant prices! Total cost for two people for lunch, including two small beers and one coffee €41.75. Unless they start providing good food we will not be back.

Such a lovely setting and décor but such a pity the service is so sluggish/ disorganised, and the food choice from dinner menu, limited and very average. We waited almost 45 mins. for our desserts which didn't entail v much prep. - kids ice cream and an apple crumble, yet we weren't offered any compensation, even though we had to remind the staff on a couple of occasions we were waiting a long time. Not ideal when you have a toddler in hand. I hope mgt. take feedback on board and improve food choices, quality and service.

Visited her on Friday night with 3 others. The interior is nice and spacious and there is good space between the tables. The wine list is poor because there are only about 2 in each category that are affordable - why do restaurants not provide a large selection - most of the wines were upwards of 30 euro. The menu is not large and so I was the only one who chose a starter - the scallops. They were beautiful but the three scallops looked a bit mean for the price charged. Three of us went for the Dundrum Crab salad and the serving was huge. Very generous portions of crab which were lightly spiced and not smothered in mayonaise. We did order deserts and cheese but they never arrived and this is the reason for my low score - the service was appalling. Seems that all the waiting staff are part time students with little or no supervision. I had to ask 3 times for a knife and fork, twice for our second ordered bottle of wine and of course we gave up asking for the desert and cheese which appeared on our bill! Would I go back........maybe if they trained the staff and reduced the price of the wine.

We had attended a funeral in Mount Merrion and went across to the Union Cafe. It was 11;45 am and told kitchen does not open till 12;00(Web site says Lunch is from 11;30am) so told to cue for a take away coffee. Staff are very inexperienced and unwelcoming and all four of us all agreed we would not return or would recommend it. The Take away coffee was good but the carrot cake was stale and served in large cardboard bowl !!!

Three of us visited here for coffee and scones at 11 am. The coffee was served in paper cups.! We sent them back. The scones were freezing. We asked for them to be heated. No cream served with scones. And they charge 4 Euro for a scone. !!!!!!! The coffee when it reappeared after we had finished the coffee was cold. nAll in all a very bad experience.nThe lighting is also very bad. Too light in spots and too dark in others. They need some professional advice here. We will not recommend and will not go again.

Great food and lovely restaurant but the service is appalling, the worst in any restaurant I've ever visited.
