Tariq has been the back bone of Michael’s Italian for the past year of progression. Hailing from Karachi , where he trained in some of the best 5* Hotels like Sheraton in Pakistan and Hilton in Saudi Arabia.

He came to Ireland in 2002, and for the past 14 years and has quietly progressed through some of Dublin’s respected Kitchens, including Kinara Kitchen, Ely HQ and Jury’s Flagship Hotel.

Since becoming head chef in Michael’s, Michael’s has received numerous Stellar reviews, including the Sunday Times, Totally Dublin and Taste.ie, as well as entrance into the “John & Sally Mckenna best of Ireland 2016 Guide”

I heard there was a new owner/chef so three of us decided to check it out. We had the best experience from the beginning to the end. The food, from starters to desserts and wine, was delicious to say the least! The tables were a decent space apart which makes a change from most places nowadays, no loud music, lovely staff and a happy relaxed atmosphere. We had a mix of starters and mains between us, perfect steak, yummy seafood and sorbets, we were so full, we could only share one dessert between us! We'll be back very soon for sure! Thank you, we had a really great experience all round. And welcome to the neighbourhood!

Enjoyed the food, simple tasty Italian menu, tabled booked for 5:30 for two, when we arrived only two other people at a table, during our meal a party of 3 and a separate party two arrived, before we even finished our coffee the waitress approached to ask if she could give us the bill, she then returned less than 5 minutes later with a card machine in hand to ask how would we be paying, quite taken aback we asked if she was waiting on the table as the place was practically empty, we were informed the table was booked for 7:00,(it was 7:10) once we settled the bill by cash, she then proceeded to hold open the front door while I was putting on my jacket, I had enjoyed the evening until this point. We were there to try out the place as we had hoped to book a work Christmas lunch, this will not be happening now! Good food but very disappointed we how we were treated!! Will not be returning!

Lovely spot and very friendly staff, but the food lacked any sort of quality or finesse. Sure, it fills you up, but it's quite plain and functional. The steak is the highlight of the menu, which is ironic as there's absolutely no Italian twist on it - it's just served with onion rings and chips. The "home made gelato", on the other hand, is the absolute worst thing on the menu - again another irony. Wild Duck and Mushroom Arancini were nice but over-crumbed and dry. Goats Cheese Rigatoni al Forno was heavy, claggy and bland. The House Seafood Linguine was just just tomato sauce with some seafood thrown in (so no freshness usually found in other versions of this dish). The brownie for dessert is nice but too floury. Overall nice to visit if you can't be bothered cooking, but nothing to excite here.

Living near this restaurant I have gone here many times over the last number of years and up to the 3-4 months ago it has always being excellent. However, my last two experiences here haven't being great, in particular the meal I had last night. There was a group of seven of us and two of the party had meals which were awful, both had steaks - one had a fillet steak which had a 12 Euro supplement and the other a rib eye steak. Both of the meat cuts were riddled with fat to the extent that they were un-edible. The guests returned the meals and asked for them to be taken off the bill and assumed this would be the case. Following this the group were offered a complementary bottle wine as a result of the steak which we we accepted. When we got the bill, we realised the steak were still on it and we queried it - to be told that the complementary bottle of wine was a replacement for the streaks and we had agreed to this. We argued this was not made clear and that we would prefer if they took the streaks off the bill and we paid for the bottle of wine. They blankly refused to do this which was astonishing, nothing would change their mind. On another note, they charged us for a number of bottles of wine and the party are pretty sure we didn't have that many however nobody could be 100% sure so it was difficult to argue as they had taken the empty bottles away from the table. All in all it was a very nasty experience and we all left the restaurant with a very bad taste in our mouth. Prior to this meal, I don't think I or anyone I was with ever returned a dish so this is something they really need to sort out asap. All of the guests are from the locality and I imagine if they are like me, will never use the place again or recommend it to anyone else.

Had the best Sunday lunch here a couple of weeks ago. The atmosphere was so relaxed, the staff were so friendly and accommodating and the food was to die for. Try the monkfish - its absolutely gorgeous. My partner had the Sunday roast which was also delicious. We had desert and coffee too, which were also unreal. Can not wait to go back!

We had an absolutely wonderful experience here last night. Excellent service, with personal guidance on food and wine choices from Michael in a very relaxed atmosphere. The recommended wines were delicious. The food was top class from the delicious and well thought out anti pasto platter, to the perfectly cooked rib eyes with very generous vegetable and potato gratin, the delightful lemon ricotta mouse with shortbread all finished off by espressos with a dash of Marsala. We will without doubt be back to enjoy this winning combination of excellent cuisine, superb service and good atmosphere. The choice on the menu was very attractive. The only problem we had was trying to choose!

I love this place. Authentic, quality Mediterranean food. Cosy, rustic and some seating outside if the weather allows. We'd be there every Sunday if it were open. I've had the arancini a few times and always delicious. Will for sure try the weekend evening menu sometime soon.

We are regular patrons of Michael’s in Mount Merrion, regularly going to lunch, and also dropping by for coffee and cake. The coffee is an award-winning blend in the latest Good Food awards, and they make the best cappuccino is Dublin, if not in Ireland. All the food is home made from the crab cakes (yum!) to the cakes (try the pistachio and limoncillo, it’s moist, flavoursome and very more-ish), and at lunchtime you can watch Michael himself preparing and cooking the food. Freshness and invention are two keynotes to the food here, which is among the best in Dublin. On our most recent trips we have had Crab Cakes, served with plum and melon, olives, tomato, fresh hollandaise and dressing, and Mushroom Bruschetta, comprising large cap mushrooms fried with balsamic marinated cherry tomato and lemon juice served on toasted bruschetta, with olive oil, reggiano and basil leaves and tallegio cheese with Michael’s own dressing; and on a previous occasion ate the Warm Vegetable Stack (layers of focaccia, roasted aubergine and courgette, red pepper, mozzarella, pine nuts, basil pesto and tomato confit) and Tuna Caprese (Ortiz Tuna, tomato, mozzarella, basil leaves, slow roasted tomatoes, pine nuts and black olives served with their own Balsamic Vinaigrette). All of the pesto, tapenades and focaccia breads are made in-house. This is Italian food to die for, and extremely reasonable. Michael’s is also a wine store and deli, so you can have wine by the glass (or bottle!) with you lunch. They are open for dinner on Fridays but now have added Saturday evenings as well. The evening menu extends the Italian daytime theme to also include fillet steak and Dublin Bay prawns, as well as their home made agnolotti pasta and hake fillets among other lunchtime favourites. This place will be hopping on Saturday evenings, as popular as it is as lunchtimes (don’t forget to book, otherwise you may well end up being disappointed).

I regularly go to Michael's Mount Merrion but havent actually got there since christmas - I was delighted last saturday morning to pop my head in and discover that Michael is now doing both Irish and Spainish breakfast all day....I opted for the spainish breakfast - omg I would get up in the middle of the night for this....sourdough bread lightly toasted and drizzled with oil topped with the most amazing tomatoes and rocket with pancetta and a perfectly poached egg with Michael's own hollandaise sauce...you gotta go there its the biz

I recently had lunch here at Michael's food and wine or la Trapola as it is known as. I have to say, it was an extremely pleasant surprise ! Fabulous cured meats and cheeses... Quite the selection for a discerning palate. All dishes seem to be made up from scratch while you wait, which I personally prefer. Tastefully selected wines to compliment. I had a salad / cheese platter (can't remember the exact name) but it was reasonably priced and excellent standard, rocket, three type cheeses, tomatoes, melon, olive tapenade, served with delicious bread. Olive oil, and balsalmic as dressing. Absolutely wonderful flavours. My friend, who was not hungry had a coffee, and her being quite the fussy coffee person, declared it excellent. I will definitely be back some evening to sample other dishes. Also do take away I noticed. Not for plain ham or cheese sandwiches I think....

I had lunch here last Friday with my parents, both in their 80's. It was nearly 3pm when we sat down to eat, and there were only 2 others in this small deli-cafe. The menu reads well, though there was a lack of simple sandwiches, paninis etc. Just about everything was price at between €13 and €15, far too much for post-Celtic tiger Ireland. Myself and my father had the eggs benedict, which was average. My mother had a mushroom dish, which was tasty, but the plate was overflowing with button mushrooms and oil. Coffee is charged by the cup - no free refills. I asked the owner, who was working behind the deli counter, if they had a website. "No, I hate websites - I don't need one - This place is full every day". Well, with that arrogant attitude and totally overpriced menu and average food, you would want to re-consider a lot of things.
